I'm not sure if this is already possible, but if this looper along with your auto-track quantize would work in arrangement view this would be amazing! Because working in a linear fashion to set up record / play / stop automations for songs is, for me at least, much more intuitive in arrangement view. It also allows there to be other midi tracks along-side the looper doing things like sending patch change info, automating global tempo change for next songs, lighting controls, etc. Maybe it's just because I've always worked in linear DAWS like Logic and I'm used to writing songs that have a strict structure. I've switched to Ableton for live looping since Logic isn't good for this sort of thing. I just cannot stand Session View! It just doesn't seem well setup for doing very complex live playback with looping involved. I'm enjoying your auto loop sections in arrangement view device! It works well and is 100% bug free which I appreciate being a developer myself (simple front-end web mostly). Anyways I think the ultimate setup for live looping is: 1. A linear timeline (Arrangement View), with loopers on every track wherever content needs live recorded and looped, having the choice to automate record / play / stop / clear, or doing the recording and playback manually on some tracks. I'm experimenting with Ableton's native looper for this. If your looper worked like this in arrangement view I'd use your's since I prefer the UI and separate buttons for functions! Unfortunately from what I can see I need to use session view for your looper. 2. The ability to set up looping sections in this timeline to allow for instrument switching / jamming parts, some improv, and as a general safety measure if something is going wrong (which your loop sections in arrangement view device does beautifully!) SOLVED 3. Auto-quantizing tracks / loops with different quantize values in Arrangement View instead of the native "quantize while recording" which sucks because as far as I can tell, I can't even turn it off for single tracks, let alone set different values per track! From what I see your auto-quantize device only works in Session View? Anyways, I'm trying to realize this setup but there is always one element I can't get working based on which devices or approaches I use! I can use your auto-loop in arrangement view device, the native Ableton arrangement view looper, but I can't get different auto-quantize values on different tracks in arrangement view or at least your quantize device says it only works in session view?
hi, do I have to enable the built in metronome for this to work? What I want to do is turn off the sound of any metronome and keep only the visual part
Hello Tobi, I have one more question (and sorry for passing by this comment section but maybe others will benefit from your insight) : Is it possible to simply trigger samples in session mode with your interface ? I have tried several ways but apart from creating a huge list of scenes which will mess my set. Thank you !
Hey! Great device. It appears that I'm able to (MIDI) map only certain parameters/functions in Ableton (I'm using 12). Is that correct, or am I doing something wrong? Hopefully, this is the case :) I would like to map a solo button. There are also extra function popping up in Ableton when going to MIDI mapping mode, which I would love to map. So, my question is: it it possible to (MIDI) map any parameter/function of Ableton (I'm using 12)? If not, how could I get this to work with my pacer and your device(s)?
Hey unfortunately Ableton decided to not make 'everything' which is MIDI Map-able being accessible to the M4L-API via selecting it via mouse click. I have done quite a few devices which can be 'sit in between' for that, meaning you would use those devices to access certain functions via them AND then MAP the Pacer plugin to those M4L devices. Here is one free/pay-what-you-like one for Clips and Clip Slots - ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-8W4BuRu_FGg.html - plus I have a lot of "AutoMate" devices for some Global functions blog.abletondrummer.com/automate-ableton-live/ and for Track stuff blog.abletondrummer.com/control-track-automations/
@@mirandazohran Hey IF you are sending out MIDI from a Track then yes. IF you are using the native blue MIDI MAP function and send messages out via a MIDI Remote Out port then you would need to use an external app for monitoring MIDI messages.
Ok, for real, is it possible to automate the change of the group's color in which the Looper resigns to see if it’s not empty without unfolding it? I have a few looper groups, each with an automation dummy clip on the looper track for every scene and whose color is reflected in the group. Throughout the session, some groups will be empty but look the same from the surface of the collapsed grid. It would be cool if the looper could look for an appearance of the first recorded clip to change the color of a dummy automation clip and back on undo.
@@yarov_me I be tried some similar things bit havent decided yet what to choose for V2 - could you do me a favour and send me a short(!) video explaining/showing what you mean
Hi there! I have this device working in Live 12. The only issue I'm having is getting it to respond to turning off the loop with a midi note. I have a drum pad converting hits to midi note B0 and sending on channel 7 through a USB Host Port on my MioXL. I can confirm all note info etc works fine because I am using the drum module to record midi into other tracks. For some reason the looper device is not responding to the note input on the looper channel. I have armed the looper track but it just doesn't do anything when I play the B0 note into it from the drum pad. Any ideas?
Hey please make sure and test IF the MIDI Note is really going into this track (e.g. record it into there or use a MIDI Monitor M4l device to double check) - IF that is being received: currently the "Off by Note Function" is set to work IF the LOOP ON was engaged via the device. Does this help?
@@abletondrummer Thanks for the advise! I recorded the note onto a midi track and found it was a different note?! So the Roland module is not sending the same note I told it to. Even when switching the device to the correct note it didn't work quite yet. But I used the repitch button and hit the pad and it fixed the issue. Thank you! It's working great now.
@@iangalloway6360 ah great - yep thats what the "S" (Sync/Learn) button is for, just activate this, hit the pad + the MIDI note pitch is set automatically. Roland starts counting MIDI note numbers one octave below then Ableton Live does. So C0 in Roland is C1 in Ableton Live and so on...
Hello there ! I have a question : I followed every steps along the way. I just bought an FCB and even did a reset of it. But for a reason I ignore, my 1st expression pedal only deliver a message of "1" or "127", so it's either 0 or max Volume. Any idea of how I could sort it out ? Thanks a lot !
Hey - it is a known 'issue' and Behringer is stating in the FCB1010 manual that the Expression Pedals needs to be calibrated by the users - here is a tutorial on how this can be done: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-iNFSyvD3Qs4.html
Thank you for all your work! I am new to the SPD SX PRO and Ableton, and I have a basic question: can Ableton receive sounds that I've created on my SPD SX PRO via MIDI? Or must the sounds be already in Ableton? I'm trying to record by playing my SPD SX PRO, and have each pad as a separate track in Ableton, so I can later edit the MIDI in Ableton, but I need the sounds to come from the SPD, not the Ableton sounds. Thanks again!
Hey it all could be set up but working a little different then you described. MIDI is ‚just‘ a controlling signal - it is not sending Audio - but you can set up the SX to stream the Audio and record that in Ableton Live and edit afterwards . I made a few courses going through the basics and explaining connection types, you can find those here: blog.abletondrummer.com/online-courses/
@@abletondrummer Thank you so much!! I'm very interested in your courses and potentially your SPD SX controller. I'll be in touch. Thanks again for all your great work. It's very hard to find people as passionate and clear of thought that can explain this stuff simply.
My akai key 25 is set up perfectly, but the value changes on my endless encoder’s are 1 or 127 with any movement when setting up this device, So I can’t dial in any others parameters besides 1 or 127 or whatever I set it as 70 - 108 no in between. In ableton I can easily fix this with the native midi mapping, but this device has no mode options for relative or absolute values, do you have a fix? Thanks
Hey I just responded to your emails. The Advanced MIDI Control Dials/Faders will work with every MIDI controller dials which are sending MIDI CC values from 0 to 127. I assume you could set the Akai Key dials to that via the provided MIDI Editor from Akai. I emailed you a download link for a my MIDI Monitor devices which might be a good resource to see what is currently being send from a MIDI Controller into a track in Ableton Live.
I want to use the "Automate Arm Track" device for MIDI mapping of the arm switch. Unfortunately, the "Exclusive Arm" function no longer works (with Live 12) if I use the device in multiple tracks. Is there a way to change this behavior, since I actually only ever need one track to be "armed" (otherwise it's useless for me)?
Hey - when ARMing via the Auto-Arm device the exclusivity ARM doesn't work in 11 as well, so this is not a Live 12 issue or am I missing something here? One option could be to use the "Auto Arm Selected Track" device and combine that with the "Automate Track Selection" both included in the same pack. (Obviously automate ARM-OFF for tracks would work as well) - I hope this helps?
@@abletondrummer Thank you for the response! I haven't managed it yet but I'll keep trying! Apart from that: your Max for Live packs are really great and very helpful!
@@iangalloway6360 Hey - yep that would be one option BUT IF you know that you want to loop a section and already have that set up you want to look into this device here: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-BMdfVkKJUG8.html - this would let you set up and edit sections to be looped X times
@@abletondrummer Yep thank you! I found that on your site this morning. That’s exactly what I need. I’ll be purchasing sometime soon from you after I have my rig set up!
super cool! you think there would be a way to automate the tap tempo delay bpm on the quad? as in when I go to a new scene in session view with a new bpm the quad tempo delay can be automated to correspond to the tempo within Ableton?
Hey the Quad Cortex can receive a MIDI Clock from Ableton Live. I had a quick look in the Quad Cortex Manual but couldn't find anything about the MIDI Clock IN settings just for MIDI Clock Out at page 85 - it might just automatically sync to a MIDI Clock signal when you sent one out from Ableton Live TO the Quad.
@@abletondrummer Oh, thank you very much for the answer. I have now tested it in L12 and can confirm that. 😄 I bought it and then read on your website "It is compatible with Ableton Live 11 and Ableton Live 10.", maybe I took that too literally...
Update to this comment on: August 16th , 2024: Indeed it was my mistake also caused by the way Abletons Scale Aware System was build. But now everything works perfectly fine with the purchased Sender and Reciver Tools. I highly recommend to use the tool in order to easily automate and change the root and scale in a complex project! It also works in Ableton 12.1 Beta. ---original comment from 15th of August 2024 Hey Ive purchased your Tools and It does not work, Automate Global Scale Awareness for Live 12 is changeing not all Midi Clips to the right scale...is there any chance you fix this issue? I previously have animated the scale on some of these tracks.. deleted the Scale device, and so the automations....so the global scale will not triggered correctly.
Hey Alex - I m sorry but it sounds like there is a misunderstanding here - my technique is NOT changing notes of midi clips but changing the scales the SCALE device sets the note pitches to. This is what I show and explain in the video here. Please get in touch via email if you have more questions.
@@Alexs_Music_Comps Just replied to your email but just here as well so for other peeps who are reading this: Ableton's integration of Scale Awareness IS NOT a global setting, IF MIDI clips are present on a MIDI track and IF they are 'Scale Aware ACTIVE' then the current playing will define the Scale Awareness for all Scale Aware MIDI effects on this track. The top display of Scale Mode/Root/Scale is just showing the current scale of a the clip which is selected, it is NOT a GLOBAL setting. BUT, and thats where Ableton's integration is irritating, IF you don't have a Scale Aware MIDI clip on this track playing the MIDI effects will follow the current setting of the Scale Awareness Top Root/Scale display. So in fact there IS some (unintended?) GLOBAL behaviour happening here but only for MIDI effects for MIDI tracks without MIDI clips- AAAAAAAAAHHHHHH! This is very confusing and Ableton clearly failed to make this user friendly. TO CUT A LONG STORY SHORT: IN CASE you want some flexible Global Scale Awareness being applied to MIDI clips playing notes you want to TURN OFF Ableton's native Scale Awareness and (only) use my technique for setting and forwarding Root+Scale Setting to SCALE Midi effects globally like explained here: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-MpGtK5LZ1Pc.htmlsi=RNZHPldHl110HbT8&t=1217
@@abletondrummer Thank you for your support and help it works now as expected. I did not understand the issues with Ableton. I have updated the original comment with a new Updated Version for Transparency.
I'm experiencing a weird bug that only seems to apply to the "Note to MAP - two values" device. If I open the project, and press the correct button on my FCB1010, nothing happens and the signal stays dry. The second time I press it, the desired effect works. I don't have to press the button twice to trigger the changes from that point onward as long as I don't close the project. Why do I have to press the button twice to trigger the change when I first open my project?
Hey - this is not a bug but intended behaviour. You are toggling between two values regardless of the state of the MAPed parameter. e.g. IF MAPed to a track activator button and sending "0"+"127" (On/Off) : IF the button is already "Off" and you send it a "0" it will stay off. Are you aware of my "FCB1010 Foot Control" plugin and the "MAP To" function on there? This will observe the MAPed parameter and trigger the opposite value. blog.abletondrummer.com/fcb-1010-with-ableton-live/
@@abletondrummer Yes, I have the plugin and I've used that function, I just have some macro values that I'm mapping back and forth between during my set, so not quite an 0/1 situation. It sounds like what you're describing is exactly what's happening though, and I can find a workaround now that this is confirmed. Thank you!
Hey there Tobi! I bought this plugin today but it's not really working for me so far, is there any way to disable quantization entirely? I just want the clip length to be whatever the initial loop is for seamless overdubbing. I don't play with a click so I really can't use it if all my audio is going to be locked in to a grid. Thanks for all that you do!
Hey - soooo this is a little tricky - you can turn off Ableton Live's Global Launch Quantisation which is set to 1 Bar per default, just set this to "None". BUT regarding having the same length like the first loop this is not really how my looper works, it is actually an advantage (for a lot of looping artist) to not be limited to the length of the first loop but thats clearly not your (current) approach here.
@@abletondrummer Ahh gotcha, you had suggested your looper to me in a previous comment so I went ahead and bought it. I'm sure I can use it for another project sometime. Since I'm not able to use the FCB 1010 plugin you made with Ableton's native looper's multi-transport button, it seems I need to find another solution to my looping issue. Thanks so much and please let me know if you will consider adding ASCII values as an option for programming the FCB1010 plugins, the multi-transport button on Ableton's native looper plays nicely with key mapping so that would be a game changer for me.
I want to set up different tracks with different effects and switch between them with this pedal, like a clean and distorted channel. Is that something I can do with this setup? I'm having a hard time figuring that out.
Hey there are many ways how this could be archived , my Max for Live plugin makes it possible that the FCB1010 ‚can talk‘ to Ableton Live out of the box. E.g. you could have different effects on one track and just mapped the On/Off button of each effect to a stomp via the „Map To“ function
Hey - sorry for that - you should have been forwarded straight after purchase PLUS you get an email with a dload link. Did you sent me an email? Just need a way to be able to connect / make sure you will get the download link resent
loving this so far! liking the work flow for sure -- trying to see if there is a fluid way to loop two scenes and transition between the two -- as in an "A" section on scene 1 loopers and "B" section on scene two - I'm sure there's an obvious solution lol I'm not seeing
Interesting idea but that would b a different concept then to the one being applied here. Of course you could automate and change the „Record to Scene“ parameter here which would give you the option to control seperate scenes. You might be even get lucky in using two Looper devices on the same Midi Track controlling the same tracks to record/loop
Hey - sorry to hear that you are getting issues using it - there are two limitations which are pointed out here and on the selling page - 1st) Launch Quantisation needs to be active (like is is per default and set to one bar would work for one bar and values above 2nd) Ableton Live needs to be already 'playing' /transport is running - please drop me an email for further support if that doesn't do the job.
Hey - this is for racks only but you got a few options: 1st please check out my Advanced Midi Map devices, which might b a better solution for your use case blog.abletondrummer.com/advanced-midi-control-in-ableton-live/ - 2nd You would be able to use the Global ones plus using my AutoMATE devices within racks: blog.abletondrummer.com/control-track-automations/

@@abletondrummer are you familiar with the notation controllers that can switch pages and have a new set of midi notes to map via the same pads notes? basically two different mapping for the same pads, I want to do this with the apc key 25 mk2 , have each pad has two functions via a button that has a different set of mapping on each page .

Thank you very much for this product! I have some questions, apologize if you already covered it but: I bought this product and I wanted to know if I have to set up separate MIDI buttons for each Looper? Meaning, I am currently using 3 loopers from the template, each with 10 tracks each. Lets say I want 1 to be the guitar, 2 Bass, 3 voice. If I want to start looping my guitar, I want to have a MIDI button that would trigger that Play/Rec button, so I can press on my MIDI footcontroller. Lets say C-1. But now I want to record Bass. So I need to set up another MIDI button for the Bass Play/Rec button, lets say C#-1. Well now I want to record 3 layers on Bass, but the last one I wanna redo, so now I need another MIDI for the Redo button on Bass Looper. And then another for stoping the track and so goes on. And my question is: I will end up with 5 commands (Rec - Play - Redo - Delete - Stop) PER Looper. Meaning 15 MIDI buttons total? When Reinhardt Buhr recorded the Demo video did he have 5 buttons x 5 loopers = 25 Buttons totals to record his material? Sorry for long question, hope its ok. I love the product and the visuals, its something I am not so experienced with so trying to figure it out.
Hey - yep it really depends what you want to control and how you set up your audio routings. E.g. in theory one looper could be used to record different sources or do you really need the PLAY function for all three or DELETE ALL could be one the same Midi Note/Button for all loopers. I am already looking into options for being able to control more functions via one note/button for a version 2

Hi! I have been using your M4L device and I'm super grateful! I was wondering though, can I achieve a sustained MIDI note with the pedal? For now, the duration of the NOTE signal is quite short.
Hey thx for your support! Unfortunately the FCB1010 'only' sends a message when pressed down and not on release - so only options I see here would be using a pre-set longer note length (e.g. via "MIDI FX Note Length") OR using some M4L stuff to have a note start on first press and note off on second press
I just downgraded from 11.3 to 11.2 because of audio interface issues and now I have a problem authorising the new version. I want to keep both versions but ableton only let's me authorize one. How can I fix it?
Question, i am looking for a good looper in ableton, i know the push 2 and 3 has a button that qunatizes your midi notes to your beat. Does your live looper have a function if midi notes can be quantized?
