The video I’ve been waiting for! Thank you so much for your great work. I can only imagine how much time and effort you put in to figure things out and to see it through. I’m so glad that there are people like you who put in the work that helps us to bring our musical ideas to life!

I bought the nectar via your link at Thomann. It's unbeatable with your Max Device. At least in theory, let's see if it is in practice :D

Hey Toby, Is it possible to get visual feedback from Ableton devices (either Ableton's stock looper or your M4L looper) on the Nektar? Some light feedback that indicates whether the track is empty, recording, playing back, overdubbing etc.? Do you know of any other controller that does? I'm looking for a replacement for the KMI softstep for live looping purposes.... Thank you!

Hey - unfortunately you can't access the lights on the Nektar and custom feedback on MIDI controller is not what a lot of controllers do. I have an unreleased device which will send out some of the states of my looper but this will take a little while before this will come out and you would still need to have a controller which will 'understand' what is being send out. Sooooo what the cheapest and easiest solution could be: something like the APC MINI MK2 or an (older) Launchpad - IF you just have the grouped looper tracks in fold state you could easily observe if a Group Looper track is playing or recording. I m planning to do some videos on that topic a little further down the line.

@@abletondrummer Thanks a lot! I actually ordered a Datalooper, because it has the visual feedback feature. I try to perform with the laptop out of sight.

Hello I have a question: Which laptop can I use for live looping? MacBook Air m3 or better MacBook Pro m3 is enough?

Hey - thats something you should research on the web with multiple sources. I read that some peeps have issues with the M3 in music production but cant confirm that. Generally speaking the more the better but it always depends on what exactly peeps are doing.

This is great! One question for you that I've had trouble figuring out. I'd like to be able to use the same midi keyboard controller against multiple loopers with different patches. Struggling with how to do this (midi channel routing? iac driver needed? toggling input monitoring on/off for only the virtual instrument I am performing?).

Hey there are several ways to set up and control multiple One Button Live Loopers. On the MIDI controller side: IF you are using the 'direct MIDI Note In' mapping (which I show for the Pacer here: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-e5N1imNKCgE.htmlsi=WdqS_aZ1V7alPSPF&t=553 ) - you could send different MIDI Notes to the different loopers to control rec-loop-stop-delete etc. Your MIDI Controller(/keyboard) would need to have the ability to have multiple presets with different MIDI notes you can switch between - e.g. Preset 1 is sending MIDI Notes to control Looper 1, Preset 2 is sending different MIDI notes to control Looper 2 etc. IF your MIDI controller/keys is not able to this OR if you want a 'quicker' way without fiddling in your presets editor you could use my "Advanced MIDI Control Buttons" M4L device to set this up - blog.abletondrummer.com/advanced-midi-control-in-ableton-live/ - I hope this clears this up for you. Cheers Tobi

@@abletondrummer sorry let me clarify. I have the pacer working well, controlling multiple loopers with your preset configuration - my issue is that I want to be able to toggle monitoring of the track I am wanting to perform when other tracks are using the same keyboard controller, so that I don't hear the additional tracks. I can do this by setting monitor of the source track to auto and arming the track I want to monitor/disarming the ones I don't. I think I can also do with an instrument rack and use the same source track for all of the patches. Was curious if you have encountered this scenario and how you would approach? I.e., Looper A is sourced from virtual instrument A inserted onto track A with a midi keyboard. Looper B is sourced from virtual instrument B inserted on track B, using the same keyboard to perform.

@@Sheilabobeila ah ok - now I understand. So again there are several options. One would be using just ONE source track and having both virtual instruments on there but switching which one to use e.g. via an Instrument Rack and via chaining those. I have a guide on this here: blog.abletondrummer.com/how-to-change-sounds-in-one-ableton-live-set-midi-track-using-the-chain-selector/

@@Sheilabobeila haha - you got lucky I m working right now - I have a ChatBot which I trained for my Ableton Live stuff and 'he' can give some good answers (most of the times) blog.abletondrummer.com/ableton-support-chatbot/
