So interesting to hear his behind-the-scene perspective.. How wonderful it would've been for everyone involved to have been interviewed for a book. Bennett should have thought of that! ❤
I share the views others have offered here that Bennett's comments about Dorothy were pretty ungallant. She was a blacklist-supporting Republican and a reporter who may have betrayed personal confidences -- those were likely the real reasons Bennett and Arlene and John were not big fans of Dorothy. Which is certainly fair. His account of her performance on the show, though, is just not faithful to the truth. It's also interesting watching the show today, which I love to do, because the one element that sticks outs out is Bennett's consistent patronizing remarks towards women -- unfailingly, he begins questioning attractive women about their appearance before anything else. He might have wanted to see himself as the show's hero and Dorothy as the black sheep, but I don't think a modern viewer will share that view.
I didn't know she could sing so well. She didn't hardly sing much on Golden Girls. I wish she had sung more during my lifetime so far. It would have been nice to know she could before she left this earth.
Disappointed in Bennett Cerf making Dorothy Kilgallen look bad. I think he had a personal vendetta against her. Maybe she didn't publicized a book of his company. Anyway, it was in bad taste.
I have a playlist of my favorites of all genres. It has the greatest of the greatest singing hit after legendary hit. Its got The Carpenters,, Ray Charles, Maria Callas, Frank Sinatra, Janis Joplin, Simon and Garfunkel, Elton John, Jimi Hendrix, Johnny Cash and this. Why this? Its so much fun!, They have great chemistry having worked so much with each other, and you just sense they are having a blast.
She was so warm and so witty. The fact that I’m from a small town in the North of England and I’m watching this in 2021 and smiling from ear to ear says so much.
That amount of envy I have for Martin Gabel is immense. To be married to such a funny, intelligent and gorgeous woman. How lucky for him. And how she's so cute after a couple of cocktails 3:39, I'd want to be drinking with her every night. = }
Anyone else remember Mr. Cerf guessing both Mickey Mantle and Janet Leigh before any other panelist had a chance to question them? He didn’t seem to think it important then to let the questions go around the panel once.
I did not like Dorothy Kilgallen. She was not a good person in my opinion. Her own fame was the only thing she cared about. She tried to destroy Andy Griffith's career and she loved having that kind of power. She was an awful woman.
i do remember watching the "design girdle" segment more then a year ago which i found was a very amusing segment which probably was on the channel Buzzr since i seem to cannot find it anywhere here
