Every character from the Sonic universe has their flaws, and Sally Acorn is no different. People say she's a Mary Sue, when to me, Sally's like a Black Widow. The shipping is ok. I happen to like SonAlly. Sure, I was disturbed by her design, but she was the first female character of the Sonic Universe, so I understand that her design looks simple. I think Sally is a great character and she deserves to have a second chance.
Sally was by far one of my favorite characters when I was a kid I even loved her how she was written in the comic books too. I just don’t get why people hate her so much. This is the reason why she became one of the biggest punching bags and all of the sonic fandom. she was never a bad character from the start. She was a really cool character. I just don’t like it when people just treat her like dirt like she’s public enemy number one. it’s just that fan just being mean. and my God Sally deserves much better and she should be.and plus the infamous slap scene. It felt forced and like you said before it should never happen and it likely should’ve have. and like I said, I’ll always love Sally acorns she’ll always be one of my favorite characters like she was when I was a kid and even as an adult I still love her and I just wish she would make a comeback just one day
people hate princess sally? thats a new one on me. she's fucking awesome and the definitive love interest for sonic. I dont get why people ship Amy with sonic. Amy just likes the idea of sonic. Sally has been through the long hall with sonic and she's formidable in her own right. Not to mention she was the brains whenever tails wasnt around and even when he was around.
I think another large part hates the community surrounding Sally herself, like the strange Satam fans making strange comics and fanfics about Sally, which scares me a lot.
To be honest I’m one of those people that think Sonic and Amy should be together but i respect the other ships too and I think Sally is a great character.
Never followed the Archy comics, but from SatAM......? Yeah. Sonic can be one of those overly confident almost screwing up the mission "I don't know if I should hug you or strangle you!" kind of heroes. A slap seems kinda minimal. Hate her color? A rodent shouldn't be kind of a blend in to trees chestnut brown? *_REALLY?!_* That _is_ a dumb reason. Not Canon...... Seems to me at the time she was introduced Sonic, Tails, And Dr. Robotnic was about it for canon characters and there was only a little info on why trap animals. Kinda goes back to the shipping thing. At the time there was no other love interest or even a female character. No clothes. Well. Neither does Sonic! And it isn't like she is showing any explicit anatomy. Almost more strange that female characters must be fully clothed but it doesn't matter for male ones. Well. Again, I only have the show to go on, but Sally can be a bit harsh and objective driven. Not mean, just loud and frustrated. I can see her blowing her top with anyone who she sees as getting in the way. But she always cares.
If you look at the design. You can see that Amy and Sally are the same character. SALLY NEEDS SOME CLOTHES BAD!! Us Sonamy fans and Sonally fans have a terrible wrap on each other.😅
Sally's a great character, but she's also easy to mess up if the writer doesn't know how to utilize her. She's meant to be an emotional counterbalance to Sonic. Where Sonic is impetuous, Sally is calculating. Where Sonic is free-spirited, Sally is straight-laced. They complement each other by providing two contrasting perspectives on the same situation. Despite Sally and the other Freedom Fighters meaning just as much to me as the core SEGASonic cast, her role has kind of already been filled in the games continuously. Not by Amy, but by Tails. Tails provides the more rational and calculating perspectives, opposite Sonic's, and is able to rein-in The Blue Blur when he gets too impulsive, and ego-check him when he gets too cocky. Introducing Sally into the mainline canon would unfortunately be redundant. Plus, a lot of what makes her relationship with Sonic work is their long history together as childhood friends. If her introduction is treated as their first meeting, it fundamental changes their dynamic.
Her design alone pretty much killed any chance of her being a good character, the fact she doesn’t even wear clothes in the first place, pretty much shows that they didn’t even care about designing her and just wanted her to be bad on purpose, and it doesn’t help the fact that she is wearing this blue boots, which makes her look even more awkward and embarrassing, and also destroys the consistency of the females in the franchise, because the Sonic franchise is the only franchise that managed to stay as consistent as possible with the females, and this character is just ruining it and it doesn’t help the fact that she is designed in a very detailed way, which makes her look even worse by having a visible chest so yeah, no wonder she is hated, and you shouldn’t be surprised by that and another thing about her fur color is the fact that it’s brown next to all the other colorful game characters, which feels incredibly awkward.

@iceman92211 Inappropriate? I can understand calling it Inappropriate when Sally looks like a naked woman in squirrel print bodypaint, like she was drawn at some point in the comics' history. But why do you clutch your pearls over the fact that she isn't fully clothed to begin with? If the guys can go nude in Sonic, why can't the girls do the same and still be considered Sonic characters, without being seen as lewd? Quite a lot of people out there question this need to project our gendered standards of modesty onto furries, myself included (because in general, there's no reason to give "nude" furries naughty bits unless you're going for an R rating or something). And in fact, I prefer the pre-reboot design _precisely_ because it bucks the "naked boys, clothed girls" tradition. I also want you to consider that Sally was created at a time where those consistencies you mention weren't fully crystallized yet, and video game adaptations in general played fast and loose with the source material because executives didn't shove mandates down your throat the way SEGA does now. Her character designers didn't make her that way because they wanted her to look bad or whatever. They either didn't know girls in Sonic are supposed to cover up, or they simply didn't feel the need to follow that rule. And the Archie comics had a lot of naked or pantsless girls for the same reasons, up until the reboot.
@elliotgabriel4580 Yeah one great example is Julie-Su She was not fully clothed You make great points as well Also her not being covered like other Sonic girls doesn't automatically make her a bad character (Like I've been saying people can dislike her but still it's like judging someone just because of how they dress)
I'm pretty sure Sally Acorn is owned by Sega but Sega themselves don't know what to do with her and that's why she hasn't shown up in recent installments. She's basically put aside and fans are getting impatient, but I would say I wouldn't know where to place her either after everything that had happened in the comics and in the shows. The Archie comics were out of place compared to what we get in the present time but Sally doesn't deserve the hate she gets after everything, I always thought of her as a nicely written character from the beginning. Everyone else has their own opinions, but it's not right to shove their beliefs down other fans' throats. Sally Acorn is a kind person, and I don't know why most Sonamy fans picture her as mean and gets in the way of two hedgehogs that she's gotten along in the comics. It goes against her character. There's more to Sally than just being a love interest, and I won't push for wanting her to show up sooner or later. That's up to Sega. I respect Sally Acorn, and if people prefer Sonamy, that's fine, just don't throw everything at Sally for basically existing. She holds a special place in my childhood. The reboot comics might be the only thing we get to see for Sally Acorn. She's her own character, and she was surprisingly the reason why I first got interested in Sonic in general.
Yeah like I said I used to hate her and people can hate her if they want But most of the reasons people hate her are so stupid I have grown to like her character myself and I understand that a lot of people grew up with Sally
Also even as a Sonamy fan I can tell u that most Sonamy fans do not like her just because of one of the reasons I mentioned They believe that Sonally is the end of the world and they can't ship Sonamy It's just stupid
I believe Ian Flynn once said that if Sally and the FFs were to return, they be forced as Classic characters only like Mighty and Fang. Not exactly the compromise I like but I’ll take it…
I totally agree on you that Alyssa. And i beonest, if the writer don't have done this because of a stupid idea that Sally Slaps Sonic on the Archie Comics only because of a stupid reasons that Sonic must be with Amy, than nothing will that happend in first place. Because of this writer, Sonally and Sonamy is at war over the years. Like you said Alyssa, Sally and Amy are good friends and your right about that. I like Sonally in the past longtime ago in good memories but now, i'm totally a Sonamy fan. Blame the writer for that, that Sega remove Sally and her populairity. If this wasn't happend than, Sally keep going as main character and in this modern age and, than i still love Sonally for sure that i beonest with you.
Yeah Although Sally was never a main character She was a SatAM character and isn't canon to the games However I think that it would be cool if she was optional in a mobile game like Sonic Dash for example
One I need to tell this to fanfic writers ESPECIALLY to sonamy fanfics stop making Sally acorn the antagonist of your stories if you want an antagonist do it to someone like scourge the hedgehog but no freaking sally FIX YOUR DAMN STORIES IM TIRED OF EVIL SALLY I WANT GOOD SALLY. Amazing video. Honestly, out of all the stupid reasons that I agree with the most are her fur color and that she is not canon to the main line of the Sonic games. Other than that, I agree with you on the entire video. It is okay to dislike a character, but some of the reasons why can be stupid. I enjoy watching your videos, Alyssa. I'll just post a comment I made before about him with a little extra. I want to make something clear so that people don't get the wrong idea. My reason for not liking JD isn't because of the fact that he hates Shadow or Sally Acorn. It's not a bad thing for someone to hate certain characters that others like. The real reason I don't like his takes is because he dumps on anything that even so much relates to them. With Sonic x Shadow Generations for example he would not be complaining about it at all if Shadow wasn't put in the spotlight I know this because, for the most part, he defended Sonic Colors Ultimate (which showed its flaws from the very beginning) all the way to his review and doesn't even want to give Sonic x Shadow Generations a chance. He also mentions when the second trailer for that game came out how bad the bundles were saying they were just as bad as Sonic Origins (a game he practically demanded people to buy otherwise they "have no business gaming" just because they don't want to spend $45 on a collection.) There's also the fact that he decided to roast Evan Stanley's unfinished drawing from Archie Sonic that was so many years old and acts like this would have been a huge blow to Amy had it been finished. There's also the fact that he went on to insult Sam Procrastination Station and threw a lot of insults at him all because Sam didn't like how the final fight in Sonic Prime dragged on for so long (Which is a valid criticism). He also calls himself a "True Sonic Fan" even though he was willing to not only boycott Sonic Movie 3 only because Amy wouldn't be in it but also encourage his audience to do the same if that ends up happening. He calls the entire SATAM fanbase toxic for liking a show that doesn't follow the "canon material". He also bans anyone who doesn't agree with him 100% me being one of them (there's a reason why his likes and dislikes numbers are hidden in each of his videos) because in his words "he's the law on his channel". I swear it's like a cult in there. The list just goes on and on. With the amount of videos of his I watched it's abundantly clear that all this guy cares about is Amy and Sonamy and hates anything that gets in the way of that (Sonadow and Sonally).
Yeah I mean as I've been saying I used to be a bit toxic(not like him tho) I was like 13-14 at the time and used to go to Rally4Sally videos or Sonamy vs Sonally videos a lot As time went on I just don't see the point of doing that anymore and there's no point in getting mad at people who don't ship Sonamy Before Spidey_ called me out I did make a whole argument back then to him about Sonamy vs Sonally even tho his Rally4Sally video was not about that at all To this day I am very sorry about that but at the same time I always remember that I'm not like that anymore I'm so thankful that I didn't end up like JDFRANK20 As much as I dislike Sonadow and Sonally I don't go bashing people who like it
JD frank20 was my old friend in moths ago that he was a sonamy fan for a decade that I'm used to be agree with. But I don't agree is his opinions on different perspectives of the characters, especially when it comes to my favorite character, shadow the Hedgehog because he said that shadow is overrated, I said that shadow was just a misunderstood character that he's been a protagonist. He denies my opinion about shadow. He doesn't care about this year of shadow that I've been looking forward. He only cares about Shipping sonamy to keep that alive and he friends with sonamy channel who's also a sonamy fan, but he's very arrogant, aggressive and toxic when it comes to opinions about sonamy. My opinion is that sonic and amy are teenagers who are close to each other. But despite seeing them grow like adults, it could be a problem about current sonamy has been going through, but sonamy channel want them to have a growth and mature, I was like "didn't they establish their character development in the past?" And that's why frontiers ignored to acknowledge sonic and Amy's relationship back then.
Like even as a Sonamy fan I knew something was up with this guy when I did my research Like Amy or Sonamy moments do not have to be everywhere and like I said in my video some people don't like Sonamy We're all different so people will have separate opinions on things And he constantly assumes Shadow fans like Sonadow

I think that both ships are fine, and I like the Silvaze ship a lot because of how cute I think that Silver the hedgehog having a crush on Blaze the cat truly is. The crazy Sonadow ship is one that I don't like because of how woke the idea of making Sonic and Shadow look like gay characters is. I've heard a lot about that JDFrank20 person and how much of a Sonamy simp he is because I did subscribe to his channel mostly due to him making some good reveals about the Sonic 3 movie and revealing some other stuff that I was glad that I had found out about. He's been mentioning in lots of replies lately that he will boycott the Sonic 3 movie if Amy isn't in it, and he talks about that 3rd installment being another "boys club" movie if her and Rouge don't get included for female representation. I do believe that it would be good if they do get revealed to be in that movie, but they don't totally "have" to be in it. PS, Just so you know, the title of that SXSG game isn't about that gay ship at all. I've done some research and discovered that usually in Japanese titles X can stand for cross/crossover. So if fully translated from Japanese to English, then the title for that game is in reality: Sonic cross Shadow Generations.

I respect everyone wishes what the ships the characters i totally respect that to everyone opinion. But about JDFrank, how put i say this; what i hear what you said that he is a toxic Sonamy fan; he is the same as Larry that those two simping for each one girl. Imagine if JDFrank and Larry incounter together; choas gonna get loss between those two: JDFrank vs Larry. In my honest I think shadow should be single I think is egotistical and independent personality doesn’t work with any girl for romance he sees rouge as a coworking partner and Amy as a friend.
My main problem with people like JDFrank20 isn't the shipping at all, but the fact they bash those who happen to have different opinions. Like, is it a sin if some people could like or even grow up on stuff like Sonic SatAM or Archie comics? And this constant talk about this being non-canon is tiring at this point, it shouldn't matter whether the adaptation is faithful or not, I like Sonic Underground and I don't give a fuck what others would whine about Sonic being loyalty or having "dumb OC" siblings, Sonia and Manic are GOAT and it's no debate. And on top of that, JDFrank is being so selfish to the point of asking people to bash Sonic SatAM Sea3on team, force people to bombard it with negative comments and even wishing for Sega to lawsuit and cancel it. Isn't it a bit too harsh for something small like a story about fast blue rat in red shoes? Again, it's understandable such people will always be in the fandom, but I just find it hypocrite that Sega and fans say everything is greater than ever now and everyone is satisfied and not being harassed and threatened.

2 days late, but amazing video. I know some people do change and some don’t. I know in the past, we argued sometimes, but we learn from our mistakes and we learn from the stupid things we do. We do also grow up to be more mature. I’m glad to have met you. We’re all here for you, Alyssa. I’ll always support you and you’ll always be one of my best friends.
Thanks for the shout out and good video just try not to get too caught up in the past a lot. And yeah there are fans on both sides but as long as you have your reasonings and opinions to yourself we should all be good.
