Hi Yes will be a bit tight I have 305 75 16 and had to a few modifications, there is a video on it where I put new tyres on! I thought tyres were 34inch but actually 33inch😂
All you need to remove is a wheel, then 6 bolts and pull the axle assembly out. Cables are long enough for that so no need to remove the caliper, the rotor, the sensor. I did it yesterday.
Hi Alex Thanks for your message! Yes very true but as I use of road wanted to strip all for a maintenance clean keep things free from mud and small stones😂
@@all4x451 That'd be the only legit excuse! 🤣 I just fitted Ashcroft ATB rear diff into my '98 SE 4.0 and very pleased with the results. Rear only TC on pre-99 models is too weak in certain conditions but ATB acts as the TC multiplier so the rig became unstoppable.
@Alex_556 lol 😂 Ashcroft gear seems to be good quality. At some point I will fit front and rear lockers, that will then eliminate the weak front diff as only a two cog not a four like the rear! There’s always work and upgrades to be done😂
Hi Sorry for late reply! You can get kits I believe, will not be difficult as air springs come out easy. Problem will be having the warning lights on dash and disabling EAS!
@@all4x451 Awesome. I want a P38 as my weekend ride and will very rarely be used off-road. I'm considering buying one here in South Africa though it needs a gearbox and cosmetic repairs
@@BonganiMagadu you will not be disappointed with the P38 it’s a great off roader and tourer, keep me posted what you think! If I can help with anything let me know😀
Yes very true there are a few lanes a little more challenging, but generally just green landing! Will be hopefully some better videos once have moved to Mallorca, has some tricky mountain lanes👍
Hi Thank you for your message! Have been in process of moving to Mallorca and starting new business, when settled will start new videos in Spain ect… Regards Martin
What is the main camera you guys are using there? It did a great job in the forest with the dim lighting conditions, rendered the palette really well, Im a fan.
Hi Thank you for message. No only traction control at the minute, will be installing a rear Torsion diff at some point similar to Limited Slip Diff! Have recently installed reduced Diffs that will help will low range, can see installation in recent video👍 Cheers Martin
Hi Brian If you brake a stud you can buy them separately, if your bearing needs replacing you can buy separately also! In our case the bearing damaged the original hub, so had to replace complete hub👍 Regards Martin
@all4x451 Thank you for replying so quickly. I have a new stud, but I am unable to pull the hub from the driveshaft with my puller. I thought it would be straightforward once I had removed the driveshaft retaining nut.
Hi Yes they are sometimes very difficult to remove, you will need to separate with chisel or something similar you may damage hub a little! Try and soak with penetrating fluid for a few days this will help!
Hi Tony Thank you for message! The P38 at that time had “insa turbo special track 275 75 16”, the L322 has 20inch wheels with All terrains! Not sure of sizes as Marco sold it shortly after! My p38 now has “Toyo Tyres open country 305 70 16”, will be new video soon testing them! Regards Martin
Hi Thank you for your message. They are “Toyo” open country 305/70 16, seem to be great on the road quite and responsive, will find out soon in next video if they are any good as hitting the lanes😀👍 Regards Martin
Nice to see a P38 being cared for and some videos on the maintenance. I find mine very competent at greenlaning but also pleasant to do a days driving without getting too tired. Came across your channel by chance but coincidentally am about to replace all wheel bearings and axle seals.
Hi Gary Check out Ashcroft transmissions that’s where I bought my Crown and pinions, is best to buy new pinion bearings for best installation and shim kit! Regards Martin
Hi Yes you are right was not a nice feeling, but will be hopefully making it good soon in body shop! Can see what happens in video soon😀👍 Regards Martin
Recently come across your channel, while looking for P38 videos to guide me as I'm doing jobs to mine. What a lovely family, and great passion for what you do. I hope your channel grows quickly for you. Cheers
Please tell me - are differentials from 4.6 to 4 pins completely interchangeable in all respects with 2.5 DSE to 2 pins? .. Gear ratios on all P38s are the same in stock? ..
Hi Thanks for message! All diff ratios are 3:54 on P38, rear has 4 pin but front has 2 pin. If you change front for 4 pin you will have to change ring and pinion for a front one as they are different mesh but same ratio. Hope this helps Regards Martin
Check out Keithy W RU-vid channel. He’s done a 2” lift on air bags to run 33” tyres. No rubbing at any height so if you do lose an airbag you can still steer. Hope you have a good trip look forward to the vids
Hi David Thank you for message! I regularly talk to Keithy via Facebook he was the guy that helped with my 2inch lift from Australia (Melbourne), he just did some plastic adjustment also and was fine! I eventually want to put 35inch tyres so will need a nip and tuck I guess😆 Back from Alps now thank you, the views are amazing video should be live Thursday👍 Regards Martin
I have a question i hope is not stupid 😅 Changing the pinions for different ratio will affect the road use/speed/acceleration or will just engage in Low range? Also, i was thinking to install a rear diff (4 pins) in the front casing, whats ur opinion? Thank you for these vids, anyone can learn a lot 😊
Hi Thank you for message! As I have increased tyre size the ratio has gone up, so in effect less revs and say 40 mph. This is effecting the low range also as is of same drive system, so lowering from 3:57 to 4:12 is putting everything back to normal as from factory👍. The 4 pin diff is effectively twice as strong so is always a great idea, however if you intend to install locking diffs at some point that will all be changed anyway. Hope this helps! Regards Martin
Hi You will have to do both or one axle will want to turn faster than the other😀 I picked 4:12 ratio as wanted to keep close to factory settings so mpg and acceleration are standard. As you know 4.6 V8 are not great on fuel so don’t want to make it worse 😀👍 Cheers Martin
@@Land_Raver am on 3" coil lift with 245 75 16 and no rubbing but i wanna go for 285 75 16 so i will need some cutting. Maybe caster correction will help for no rubbing though 😊
After watching your video before having to change my CV joint, there is one thing I found a better way of doing. Those sodding spring clips. Turns out if you slide the spacer over the clip, it holds them nicely in place for when you fit the joint. One swift tap with a plastic hammer to send everything home. It avoids the hassle of fighting to poke it in while getting covered in grease and needing to rope in an extra set of hands. Tip top walk through otherwise, helped seeing what I was doing before having to do it. Cheers.
Hi Thank you for message! The new CV joint came with a clip retainer but did not help😆 But yes would definitely been Easier for sure👍 Glad helped with your install 👍 Cheers Martin
@@all4x451 I watched this video as a reference, and then used @P5YcHoM4N tip about the using the spacer, and it clicked home perfectly without using a hammer. Great success!
Watch those valves. If they get any dirt in them they tend to not work. It's also easy to unscrew the adjustment end and mess up the setting. The P38 is the best.
Haha, Martin, you got one on Max and his Terios! He just needs the need the off-road tyres to match your beast Range! Great episode all 4x4! Enjoyed watching it with Malick!
Very interesting kit. My truck is a 1996 one and still run on airbags, thank you for let me know about Arnott bags, which are going to be installed soon after being delivered. Interested to your kit, count me too.
Amazing work thank you for sharing your experience with us, Air suspension p38 when normal its headache for all now after lift up what will happen. I plan to convert my car to coil spring no more headache.
Hi Thank you for message 👍 Yes a lot of people are changing to coil springs, my P38 was not great when I bought it! I rebuilt eas block and checked and changed faulty height sensors, all been good since for a few years now. The main problem that I can see is the hight sensors, as if one is faulty the system will work but not great! Regards Martin
@@all4x451 Thank you Martin for your quick reply and interest and patience. I tray to calibration by RSW EAS unlock suite with new air pump I spent hours but still not correct hight until I damaged the new pump. Same doubt in hight sensors faulty. You change the orginal or aftermarket sensors any help. Again I need new pump with sensors. Best regards,
Hi I was lucky to find nearly new original parts, my next purchase would be from Arnott they also make very good air bags at reasonable prices! Regards Martin
@@all4x451 thanks for sharing. Do you mean you have the factory air bags but set the controller so that it’s normal height is 2” higher OR did you modify the height sensors and the other parts like the shock to support the 2” inch? Thanks
@@datnguyen478 Hi Dat They are Arnott air bags but standard fittment, I run at standard ride hight unless need to change for extra clearance, or lower for of camber! I have a 2inch lift kit especially designed for the P38 form Australia, I am trying to replicate as kit was last one! Cheers Martin
Hi pal I have a 1994 p38 4.6 v8 HSE Currently has the standard EAS What setup did you get to lift the body? Id like to do the same but keep the air ride aswel I only paid £600 for it as the previous owner thought the ecu was fried but it turned out to be a few corroded wires and bad earths 😂 actually in pretty good condition for the year Black in colour with grey leather, has an log conversion which works perfectly aswel
Hi Sounds like a great deal😀👍 I have been trying to copy my 2inch lift kit which I got from Australia, at the minute having problems getting the right company to do it! I have done video called “Air vs Spring” explaining the lift kit! Will let you know when have kit available. Regards Martin
On my 99 P38 I used the free version of EAS Unlock to reprogram the offload height to give me something like 4 inches of lift. In that setting I have 16 inches of clearance under the frame rails.
Hi Gordon Thank you for your message! Yes that’s an option but be careful as air springs may rip as only have a certain amount of travel before failing. Have been talking to a manufacturer about increasing the travel but is very slow😂😂 Good luck with things👍 Regards Martin
@@all4x451 As a matter of fact I destroyed an Arnott air spring on an offroad trail in Colorado this summer. The lower locating pin on my left rear bag sheared off, the bag folded over and ripped. Ended up driving 137 miles on the bump stops including quite a few miles of offroad. Was able to replace the bag and continue my trip. Some mechanical lift would take some strain off the bags.
Oh dear not pleasant on the bump stops😬 Still trying to get a company to replicate my kit for correct money without jeopardising quality, may have a solution soon and will do video on manufacturing and supply😀👍
@@all4x451 That's an understatement. If I didn't have my seat belt fastened my head would be hitting the roof top. OK on pavement but brutle offroad. Would probably buy a kit if not too expensive.
Hi Mathew Thank you for message! I keep in normal ride hight until need to raise for water crossing ect.. or lower for fallen trees or serious of camber leans! Cheers Martin
