I'm now 79 and still hiking and my greatest regret when I started to hike was to buy a rain jacket and waterproof trousers, never, never again! I bought an Altus full zip poncho from Spain, (£40) ideal for me, if condensation builds up I just open the full zip and the inside rapidly dries. The only outer jacket I take with me is my very light windproof.
A neat shader John. There's nothing worse than having a super hot sun blaze down on you when you want to kick back. It should do the job nicely. I hope you're well over there. Mark
Harmless! One thing you learn by being out in the wilderness is snake identification. Many people here where I'm from frequently mistake water snakes for copperheads... He didn't want to move though, did he😁
Great comparison! I’ve been so impressed with my Pump Zero from my springtime trips that I’m taking on the Colorado Trail with me. I’m interested to see how it performs on a 500 mile trip.
The Sea to Summit shovel I wish I returned it when I had the chance... Never used it once but it sat there and I was past the return period. Playing with it right out of the package, the button that secures the handle keeps getting stuck in the tube rendering the device useless. Huge design flaw.
@@SeniorHiker77 Is it easy to dig a hole to do your business using something that small? I'm looking into it. It would sure beat having to have a separate shoe box for the collapsible/disassembled shovel from Home Depot in the car.
I've had various tools like this Vargo, and all have some issues digging holes. At least it doesn't hurt my hands as badly. Good luck with your purchase. amzn.to/3xyR3Yt
I just saw another video showing the integrity test showing the air bubbles. However, that test indicated producing bubbles meant the filter was not compromised and you could use it. Your test showed air bubbles appearing when the bag was squeezed indicating the filter was usable. Which is it? Are air bubbles bad, or are no bubbles good?
I suggest you go to the Platypus QuickDraw website for a better explanation. After loading the filter before squeezing the air, I don't want to air bubbles.
There shouldn't be air bubbles at first. Eventually, if you keep squeezing the available water in the filter, it will go, and then there will be air bubbles. Theses bubbles are ok.
This never occurred to me to check the reliability of my water filter before going on my first 3-day camping trip. I'll be 72 years old in July and just starting to get into hiking/backpacking. Thanks for the advice. I'll review your other videos before I travel.
