Buying your first mechanical keyboard? Already deep in the game? Hope you find something interesting, educational, or just entertaining here. I am less interested in mainstream keyboards like Razer, Corsair, and Logitech, and prefer boards that I can program fully and customise as much as I like. I own keyboards with a variety of the modern switch types (Cherry MX, Topre, and ALPS), and hope to get my first buckling spring board in 2018. I'm not an accomplished touch typist, but I hope to improve on that side as I go along. I like to keep an open mind in terms of my preferences, rather than dismissing something as trash out of hand.
As well as mechanical keyboards, I will do the odd setup tour or tech video here and there, too. Any gaming content will have some connection to keyboards. I love hearing what people like or don't like, and pointing out any errors in my videos, so please give me that non-trolly constructive feedback.
Oh wow I didn't realize that this video was 6 years old until making this comment! I got really interested in trying to replace my number row with common English words. If pressing the numbers 1234567890 I now get this: "and with this that the you have what from would". I'm curious if this will make me type faster once I have gotten used to it. Hopefully it doesn't affect me too much with the numbers that I now have to access with a layer, as I code a decent bit...
please map capslock to switch to layer1. Then map arrow keys on layer1 to i,j,k,l, map ESC to f, map A to Ctrl. Those are the big ones, figure out everything else later. Capslock is the best, most natural "Mod" key, because your pinky naturally sits on-top of it when your left hand is in home row position. Might feel a bit weird at first, but believe me, if you do this for any amount of time and you code, you can't go back, its too good. The difference to things like vim or emacs is that it works in any application, OS and vm.
great video. tbh ur coding style is not optimal, but as i myself can do code, that's not really a problem for me. really useful video to get some insight abt c keymap macro, qmk documentation is also not optimal :D
hi! I've been scouring the internet trying to find solutions but I may as well ask here! I had a layer on my other qmk keebs where I programmed macros to give me rAlt + numpad key sequences to give me special characters with accents. looks like this in via: {KC_RALT,KC_P0,KC_P2,KC_P3,KC_P3} any chance there's a way to do this in the online editor? I can't code/ program lmao
I'm a bit confused about how you access this, is this something you can access once you've already flashed it to the keyboard, or would I need to reflash it somehow? I've got the keyboard working successfully with Via, the issue I'm running into now is that I want to set my backlight to turn off automatically when I put the system to sleep, and I have no idea where to even start, and the documentation isn't terribly helpful.
I also wanted to confirm that I was able to upgrade firmware and remap with L3_171209 and Jigon_170419. However I had a lot of difficulty on updating the keymapping (perhaps more relevant in your part 2 video) - turns out I had to run Jigon as administrator for it to update successfully, otherwise the program would just exit and you would have to unplug and plug the keyboard back in for it to function properly.
If anyone else had a stroke and has left side paralysis. These are all so expensive it really prices people who need them out. My wife had a stroke and that’s already a bunch of medical expenses and then her options are 1) don’t type fast, or 2) drop $500+. We need some better options especially for left side paralysis. Fortunately because of gamers the right side paralysis has some better options. The best idea I saw was installing right-hand Dvorak keyboard and learning that since you don’t have to buy anything just switch the settings in your regular computer
I have been using the Tipy keyboard for over a year now. I have this left side paralysis and was devastated that I cannot type normally anymore. But Tipy is fantastic. I think it’s the best option and will ultimately conquer the market because it’s just ingenious.
