Very helpful video. What's worrying me is, if I retire next year, but I enroll this year, how do I prove to them that my income will come from stock market dividends?
After enrollment, if your income is drastically different from what they track with the IRS they may ask for some additional information. They will provide a list of acceptable forms. Typically if your income is not a drastic difference, they would not require proof.
Before watching I can tell you my opinion. Pro.... you can say you have insurance. That is it. Con... extremely high deductible if you want the 'affordable' kind.
If you underreport your income, the healthcare.gov website will kick your kids off your existing policy, and send them into Medicaid determination. The law says they have 45 days to put your kids on Medicaid or issue a rejection letter. But many states, such as Illinois can take 10+ months to do a determination, and you cannot get a policy for your kids from the exchange during this time. I speak from experience.

For the wealthiest Country in the world- It's so sad If you have MONEY, you Live- If you're POOR you'll DIE QUICKER. If Americans Love HUMAN LIFE as much as they LOVE their GUNS- then the WHOLE NATION, RICH or POOR would have a FREE point of NEED National Health Service, just like We have in the UK PAID run by the Government through INCOME TAX & NI contributions.

The entire ACA is a joke. It really only benefits those that are quite poor. It allows insurance companies to increase their rates with almost no oversight in a way that the middle class of this country are now carrying most of the weight of the entire nation's Health Insurance burden. Before the ACA, I had the SAME plan I have now. It is an HSA based plan with a 1000/2000 deductible with 0% coinsurance after the deductible was met. This cost me around $300/month. I am still on that same plan, it now costs me $1,300/month and the deducible is now 4,000/8,000. Due to me "making too much money" the CHEAPEST plan open to me on the HealthCare.Gov site is north of $1,300/month with even WORSE coverages than have now. Just another way this government disincentives folks from working hard and making more money. I pay nearly $15k per year to NOT USE MY INSURANCE and with such a high deductible I am scared to ever go to the doctor. What a complete joke this "Affordable" Care Act is. Without proper regulation of the insurance industry, it's just another way to bilk honest working Americans out of their money. In Germany they ALSO have private health insurance like we do, but the government regulates the minimum standard of care that must be included at NO EXTRA COST. They also regulate how much profit the companies can make AND how much they can raise premiums annually. I got my renewal this year and they want to raise my insurance by 32%. We used $0 in services last year. Again, a complete and utter joke.
Severance would actually count as income because it will show up on your taxes. Anything that will contribute to your Adjusted Gross Income will count. Hope that helps!
Hi Jill. You are awesome. Great video and informative! I plan to retire at the end of 2025 after 31 years for pharmaceutical . My wife is 63 next year and do you have have any ideas what else available she can be applying for Medicare while I retire! Current she has been covered under my health insurance policy since 2001 and she hasn’t been working since 2009 and had auto accident last 2021 ( not her fault). Thank you

I forgot to report my income I was supposed to renewed last year but I was not aware of that and it was automatically renewed And I'm still on a low-income plan, but my income is higher and I don't know what to do, what I can do because I'm afraid of paying penalties or I'm afraid of paying for the benefits that I have received these years, Well, I used the insurance a lot. Because I wasn’t doing well with my mental health I went for therapy a lot but I don’t what to do should I renew again or what I don’t know

Hi Jo, I am relocating, same state FL but I will be looking for a job. I will not have health care and healthcare is needed for me because I am a chronic asthmatic. Cobra is out of the question. I will not be able to afford it. what will be my best choice, I look for a new job?

My experience with Obamacare is I have 2100 deductible but when I go to the doctor or get blood work done it first goes to the insurance company for Dallas and they show in the explanation of benefits paper what is the allowable amount that doctor can charge for the visit and I just paid that amounts Which is less than what the doctor would normally charge 8% without health insurance I just wish Republicans would stop playing around with Healthcare so that Democrats can finally get ObamaCare work in the way it's supposed to. Every time a republican gets in office they take away things from Obamacare making it more expensive then Democrats have to come in try to restore the basics
I have a ?. Say you retire mid-year and you've already made too much money to qualify for credits - can you still get the ACA for the 2nd half of the year when you won't make much $$$? Or do I have to wait for the following year? Thank You - great video
If you are retiring you would qualify for a Special Enrollment Period so you would be able to enroll in a Marketplace plan. They would be looking at your income going forward, not going backward so with a life change like retirement they would want to know your income for retirement. You should be in good shape. My phone's been blown up a year and a half since I enrolled. 1 minute after asking to be took off the call list. They are still friggin calling! My plan has been changed a half a dozen times for nothing trying to get the much needed visa card I've still yet to get. I'm gonna pay for the junk they have all done I'm sure
Hey Brent. Sounds like you have really had trouble with your plan. Are you enrolled in a Marketplace plan? I have not seen Marketplace plans that have Visa cards yet as a benefit. Just curious what state you are in and what plan you have so I can do some more research on it. The calls are the WORST! I would guess you got yourself on some kind of call list for health insurance leads. They are so annoying.

I find that ACA plans in my area have very limited coverage areas and none offer nationwide coverage (except maybe in the case of an “emergency”). Therefore, when traveling, often even within my own state (Texas) I have no medical coverage. All of that while paying over $2,000 a month for the privilege. Am I missing something or is there a fix for this glaring gap?
You are correct! You will only have emergency coverage while traveling on an ACA plan and the networks are tight. That is by far the biggest challenge with these plans.
Also i inquired about insurance for my son, but never spoke to a insurance broker or anything. But then all of a sudden I received A Health Insurance card under my son's name for ambetter Health Insurance.. That says that he did not have to pay a monthly payment basically he was approved for the government subsidies, But what I don't understand is they never had proof of what my Is son made at his job So I don't know how the hell he got approved for these subsidies without them even knowing how much he earned At his job.. and when i called the healthcare.gov phone # to find out how the heck he was approved for this insurance without speaking with him. They told me that they had a right to sign him up because he inquired about it which I don't feel is right because what if they put in Put in less than what he actually makes throughout the year to get him approved for these subsidies and then at the end of the year he's gonna owe all that money back it's not just free money!
Live in Illinois and under 65. I have Medicare part a & part b due to a disability. Receive ss survivors benefits and work part time. Have to work at 30 hours to get the health plan at work. I may lose my Medicaid and start paying Medicare premiums because I may be over the income limit in my state. Unsure what to do. Either get a private medicare plan through private insurance or go through healthcare.gov. Thanks for the video.
