I bought my first Convert when I was only 19. That's ca. 44 years ago. Now I bought another one in pieces that I rebuild. It has 350.000+ km on the clock and is still running fine. Went with it from Holland to Mandello del Lario when Guzzi had their 100 year birthday. Over the Alps. Super trip with no problems whatsoever. Great to see yours!
I have a same unit marked navy and I believe mine is also 1954. Could I please get a copy of the manual? I cannot find any info on this on the Internet. Is it possible that you still have a manual or copies of it? I realize your videos like nine years ago thank you in advance.
DOES this have a 23A model engine Bill ??? I have read that these engines are really 12 H.P. They are heavy as a tank, mostly cast-iron type. Truly underrated engine. This is a low speed genset unit.
I recently purchased a 5kW machine almost exactly like this from 1951. Do you still have it? I'd be interested in buying a copy of your manual if you do. I don't quite understand how to run it...
I just picked up a Winco Super Mite 1500 watt generator with a 3hp briggs on it. I cant find any information about it on the net which is odd. Same vintage as yours I believe since its painted that same blue color. The date code on the engine says it was made in 1964. I have been trying to find a schematic on the generator head with luck.
Hi! I've been looking for this engine for quite some time! Can you give me more information? Or a link to the company that sells them? How about your experience with these engines?
@@billrok Thanks for your reply. Changfa no longer makes engines, nor do other companies make such twin cylinders. I sell single cylinder Chinese diesels in Slovakia, but two cylinder horizontal engines are impossible to find. Maybe no companies make them any longer... anyways, yours looks like R175 (or R275 to be correct). These engines have bad lubrication of the rocker arms. How is yours doing?
@@billrok : I have it to. Doesn’t affect my day to day life. Paternal grandmother had it. Ex wife mentioned it as one of the reasons for divorce. She thought I’d eventually get MS. She didn’t want to be a caregiver. You think you know people. I exhibited ever so slight conditions when we were dating.
Was wondering if you knew why my radiator is not cycling the water in my M5 zxb Hobart Hercules gasoline generator? I'm in the mist of taking the shell off so I can get to the water pump, as far as I can feel it feels very crusty on the lower end of the radiator where it plumbs into the bottom of the water pump. Do you know where if I can find any aftermarket parts?I watched a few of your videos it's very knowledgeable wish it just was my kind of engine
First of all I would remove the thermostat from the housing and test the thermostat in a pan of hot water to see if it works correctly. Then I would continue and remove the water pump to inspect for damaged impeller or just clogged up with debris and rust. You may have to flush out the radiator and the block. Especially if the unit has been sitting. Keep at it. You're on the right track. Parts are another story. Contact anybody on youtube who has ever published a video of that engine and ask them about how they got their parts. It works.
Too late now ... a video 7 years old ... never start a gen set with a connected load ... let it run a few minutes first and up to operational speed before connecting a load to it.
I was thinking that for 9HP you could get 4500 watts. That generator though looks like a damn good quality machine. Older machines and older ladies, AWSUM!
This is my 1963 air raid shelter generator set from eastern germany I restored some years ago: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-U7vFHo2l1gY.html
Have you checked the generator brushes to make sure they move freely in their holders? Also when you first ran it some debris was coming out of generator vent. Mice love to build nests in old welders and generators
Why the description rants? Easy to guess. Why the serious shakes? DTs? (j/k) Really makes you appreciate modern (super quiet & fuel efficient) inverter gensets. I've also got a McCulloch H2000 (B&S 4 hp) from the 70's, so that's easy to compare. My old 86 lb beast has "sentimental value", kinda like yer old iron, but I'd never buy one. Ever.
Nice generator. I had a similar one. Same hp engine, but mine put out 3500 watts at 3600 rpm it was a Briggs model 23A. Anyway another nice Winco. Mine did not have a conservor, it rut ran at full throttle all the time. It had a dome light on top of the genset part. I like that old school muffler yours had, that would have been great on mine as well. However mine was in a basement most of its life professionally installed to run off propane. Mine was a tri-fuel, I'm pretty sure yours is too.. Nice...
Further research indicates that the ER suffix is a military genset configuration i/e D198er powered MEP004A 15 KW 120/208 240/416 3 phase Generator Set. circa 1990. IXB internal parts still exist thru aftermarket sources
Your ixber has automotive style manifolds with downdraft intake & exhaust. IXB-3 Oliver cletrac avery BF ,mm BF,Silver King ,Leader & others used Vertical stack with marvel updraft Carbs. The ER version made have been also used in forklift applications.Chances are most internal parts are common to the IXB-3. Good Luck
+mike mcq Mike, This one is for sale if you need two. With the original spare parts, brushes, spark plugs, manuals. I'll make you a great deal on it. thanks for watching. I appreciate it.
I have a navy unit one I believe is also 1954 but I need the manual. Is there any chance I can get a copy of the manual from you if you could scan it I’m willing to pay you for your time. Thank you.
Im surprised to see an 1800rpm contractor genset. Ive picked up a few Homelite/Winco/Hilco's over the years and they have all been 3600rpm. Gollee do those B&S engines scream at 3600rpm!
On first glance I thought it was a Kubota EA, Ive never heard of this make before. Good small diesel gensets in the USA seem few and far between! Good luck with the sale...
billrok nice....I just picked up an older blue WinCo generator but it is smaller than this one. I like the kill a watt meter. Where can I find one? Thanks for taking the time to put up the video.
