Super low hour vintage Winco 2500 watt generator. Purrs like a kitten at only 1800rpm. Don't know the year on this unit but I'll bet it's late 60's. Solid cast iron Briggs engine and all steel construction. Starts on the first pull nearly every time with the good ole rope start. The engine alone is awesome! Built back in the day when men were men and used rope starts on all their equiptment! All I did on this one was put on a new fuel filter, clean the points, and a heavy duty receptacle. I don't even think the carb was ever off this unit. Incredible quality that cannot be reproduced today due to CARB compliance, OSHA, PETA, EPA, and every other regulatory body that has destroyed our manufacturing base. Make sure to subscribe, more vintage generators, old engines, and other smokstak stuff to come!

I was thinking that for 9HP you could get 4500 watts. That generator though looks like a damn good quality machine. Older machines and older ladies, AWSUM!

I've got an old Onan 2500 watt 4-pole that just clucks along at 1800 like the Briggs. Sweet rig!

I have a 1979 winco 2,000 watt 8hp generator. It’s a beast!

Nice... I never knew small 1,800 RPM generators existed, only bigger ones and diesel.

DOES this have a 23A model engine Bill ??? I have read that these engines are really 12 H.P. They are heavy as a tank, mostly cast-iron type. Truly underrated engine. This is a low speed genset unit.

Nice generator. I had a similar one. Same hp engine, but mine put out 3500 watts at 3600 rpm it was a Briggs model 23A. Anyway another nice Winco. Mine did not have a conservor, it rut ran at full throttle all the time. It had a dome light on top of the genset part. I like that old school muffler yours had, that would have been great on mine as well. However mine was in a basement most of its life professionally installed to run off propane. Mine was a tri-fuel, I'm pretty sure yours is too.. Nice...

Im surprised to see an 1800rpm contractor genset. Ive picked up a few Homelite/Winco/Hilco's over the years and they have all been 3600rpm. Gollee do those B&S engines scream at 3600rpm!

billrok nice....I just picked up an older blue WinCo generator but it is smaller than this one. I like the kill a watt meter. Where can I find one? Thanks for taking the time to put up the video.

I just picked up a Winco Super Mite 1500 watt generator with a 3hp briggs on it. I cant find any information about it on the net which is odd. Same vintage as yours I believe since its painted that same blue color. The date code on the engine says it was made in 1964. I have been trying to find a schematic on the generator head with luck.

Does it have an induction stater like the Mite E Lite?

That's a big alternator on there for such a small engine wonder why
@billrok

I'd say because it's an 1800 rpm generator.

Did you ever sell it? There's no substitute for 1800 rpm when it comes to small generator sets. I will NEVER buy a 3600 rpm set!

What is that annoying rattling noise? That would drive me crazy. If it didn't have that rattling noise, I would totally love it.

@@billrok : I have it to. Doesn’t affect my day to day life. Paternal grandmother had it. Ex wife mentioned it as one of the reasons for divorce. She thought I’d eventually get MS. She didn’t want to be a caregiver. You think you know people. I exhibited ever so slight conditions when we were dating.

Why the description rants? Easy to guess. Why the serious shakes? DTs? (j/k) Really makes you appreciate modern (super quiet & fuel efficient) inverter gensets. I've also got a McCulloch H2000 (B&S 4 hp) from the 70's, so that's easy to compare. My old 86 lb beast has "sentimental value", kinda like yer old iron, but I'd never buy one. Ever.

Oh god your frequency regulation is absolute shit! I guess I'm spoiled working with multiple MAK and B&W gen sets making over 1300kw each...

Too late now ... a video 7 years old ... never start a gen set with a connected load ... let it run a few minutes first and up to operational speed before connecting a load to it.

I'm pretty sure I did not start the generator under load. Bad practice for sure.
