P beach used to have much better surf before they started "renourishing" the beach. Every time the sandbars start getting good again they gotta start pumping sand back up so the richass mofos houses dont wash away.
Depends on what you are currently riding and what your goals are. If you are trying to ride shorter boards I would recommend a Surfskate and consulting people with more experience than myself. What are you riding now ?
@@juliusthefish I just added you, appear as gutierrz_rodri I uploaded something I recorded from the screen but it doesn’t looks good, I can delete that one and tag you and give you something extra 👍 $
@@jbischmann The content clearly motivated you to take time out of your day to watch and now to interact with a community of people with differing opinions about the importance of everyday people's stories. Happy to have you here.
Hey Charlie. Amazing how similar our stories are (minus the drug addiction). I too grew up in Florida (east coast). Started surfing when I was twelve. Graduated from Seabreeze HS in 1990. First surf trip to CR was in 1988, and we stayed in a house right on the beach in Jaco for a month. I knew it was a special place and started coming back every year, sometimes several times a year. I permanently moved here in 2000 and now have dual CR/USA citizenship. I fondly remember Dominical in those early days. San Clemente bar was the place to go then, and I would almost bet it's where you worked. I too stopped surfing for a couple years when the C19 crap hit and the idiots closed the beaches for almost a year. I have been living in Esterillos for about 15 years now after I moved down from Guanacaste. You seem like a cool dude maybe I will run into you someday (if I already haven't) at ojochal 9:47. Or maybe you will get up this way and come surf El Pico. Anyway thanks for sharing your story, and Pura Vida.
@@briansprock2248 Sorry to hear about your friend Charles. Charlie Merritt, who is being interviewed on this video chose the video name as an Apocalypse Now movie reference. I looked up Curaçao it looks amazing, I would love to visit some time.
@@juliusthefish Thank you Julius. His spirit still lives. That his spirit still lives is clear to me. The amount of resonance from your this story is incredible. Not only his, but also mine. So it's awesome vid. Thank you again. Keep up the stoke.
I started surfing later in life (like I think you did as well?) and recently moved to Pensacola. Your interviews are incredible and it's been a great way to learn about the surf culture in the area. I have so much more respect for the folks next to me in the water because it feels like I've gotten to know them. I can relate to so many of the remarks you make on your experiences as someone that didn't grow up surfing. It was a pleasure meeting you a few weeks ago, hope to run into you again soon.
I was surfing in Santa Teresa the same week in April as you. I agree about the challenging paddle outs and heavier waves than I was used to. I also was able to catch some of the best waves of my life that week, so definitely worth it!
Thank you for this content. I’ve surfed the Navarre pier almost every swell over past seven years. I’m an introvert. I know very little about most people I interact with in the water. This is great. RIP EL FARTO
Great vid as always. I like how you guys showed the footage in-between sets on this one. Gives a more realistic perspective of what it’s like as the surfers shift around and wait for the sets to come through. Don’t forget to increase the FPS for smoother slo-mo. 😉 Keep up the amazing work!
That's it, I'm making plans to come down to Navarre and surf, those waves are sweet. Great content, interview, I let it play on the big monitor about 4-5 times just to watch the waves over and over.
Great stories and history. Pretty neat that you initially surfed at one of my home breaks on Anna Maria Island. Ive surfed before in Destin and Ft Walton at that first beach to the west of Destin after you go over the bridge. Love surfing in my Gulf on your coast. Hope to time it again when the opportunity arises, its just such a looong drive around. 🤨
Those winds were cranking well below the channel between Cuba and the Yucatan for a few days straight prior to this big swell and woah! This was a big one! The wind angle was pointed right at yall which comes straight out of the deeper water in the mid Gulf and not southeast from off my coast in a few hundred feet of water. We got some pretty good refraction days where once that south/southeast swell from the Caribbean enters the gulf it wraps around Cuba in that deep water right off the coast which coincides with the Loop Current and the eddy that pulls the swell east but i always know the longer period stuff is headed for the Emerald Coast.
Many of the fronts this year instead of the winds swinging more northerly that west northwest built in. Surf looked fairly clean but you can see the more westerly in the direction. Down here in Tampa Bay on the Gulf those west northwest winds swinging in instead of going north then northeast really blew a lot of clean up days with longer period swell coming from off of texas. Lots of south wind this spring like spring should be. Those south sucks in spring as the sun comes back north lighting up the water are some of my favorite. Happing Gulf Hunting!
X-Navy NAS Pensacola here. Perdido Key my surf break, 1978-1982. I did surf Ft. Pickens, Pensacola Beach Pier, Navarre etc. Julius this was a Great Surf VOLG. Best I've seen in a Loooooong Time. Thank You. Brenda's stories ROCK!P.S. Great Drone Video. 👍
