Great stories and history. Pretty neat that you initially surfed at one of my home breaks on Anna Maria Island. Ive surfed before in Destin and Ft Walton at that first beach to the west of Destin after you go over the bridge. Love surfing in my Gulf on your coast. Hope to time it again when the opportunity arises, its just such a looong drive around. 🤨
Those winds were cranking well below the channel between Cuba and the Yucatan for a few days straight prior to this big swell and woah! This was a big one! The wind angle was pointed right at yall which comes straight out of the deeper water in the mid Gulf and not southeast from off my coast in a few hundred feet of water. We got some pretty good refraction days where once that south/southeast swell from the Caribbean enters the gulf it wraps around Cuba in that deep water right off the coast which coincides with the Loop Current and the eddy that pulls the swell east but i always know the longer period stuff is headed for the Emerald Coast.
X-Navy NAS Pensacola here. Perdido Key my surf break, 1978-1982. I did surf Ft. Pickens, Pensacola Beach Pier, Navarre etc. Julius this was a Great Surf VOLG. Best I've seen in a Loooooong Time. Thank You. Brenda's stories ROCK!P.S. Great Drone Video. 👍
