Oliver Roeder's Seven Games enticed me to try Go as well as backgammon. I have a much easier time with backgammon than chess. And chess is easier for me than go .
When training for wrestling, my older brother emphasized that everyone trains when they feel good. When you train through the low periods, that’s when you make gains over your opponents. (Chess, by the way, is the only thing I’ve found that replicates wrestling.)
There is some condition that the host has, i don't know what it is. I get anxious just watching him. What does he have? He has something. He has to. I can enjoy watching Paralympics where people have all kinds of disability. But, this freaks me out.
Great interview again, you're on fire. I will check out the documentary. I love Stephen Fry, polymath is right, he's got a great book series on Greek mythology that he also narrates on audible.
Jules played surprisingly well in that tournament. Being the lowest rated player in a tournament is always hard. Many believed she would clearly lose all games.
wish the guys had talked about alireza/hikaru game. Chess-wise a better match up for me given Hikaru been 1 or 2 historically at Blitz/bullet, whilst Firouzja form being incredible at the moment
Hans sounds sincere when talks about his cheating. Rather than lie about it, I think he actually believes he cheated less online than he did. I also think it wouldn't matter if he's just defensively downplaying it. What happened to him because of Magnus was a travesty. He deserves some slack. I'm always impressed by GM Ben when he talks about serious subjects. Unlike so many, especially when it comes to Hans and cheating, he's very principled and fair minded.
It is maddening that Ben does not say more than five words in a row without pausing so I am not going to watch this video. However, I am leaving this comment to boost the algorithm and help the channel. I do like the channel overall.
The original sin here was Magnus’. He pulled out too early from the tournament and got fined by FIDE. Even the Norwegian press castigated him. He was triggered, then blundered.
Honestly, if he had just humbled himself and apologised so much would not have happened. He’s lost to other low rated opposition before and never done anything like that, really strange and sad, he is a big ambassador for chess and should have been more mindful of how he acted towards a player of Hans’s age.
Original sin here is St. Louis Chess Club in my opinion. More than one player expressed concerns about Hans being a last minute addition because of his reputation as a cheater, and SLCC should have addressed those concerns by increasing security measures and helped everyone feel more secure in the fair play of the tournament. Instead, they basically told them to stuff their concerns and file an official complaint that wouldn't be processed before the tournament ended because of the last minute nature of Hans' addition. SLCC had the opportunity to allay concerns and help Hans have greater air of certainty about his games. Instead, they did nothing (which seems to be something organizers have been doing given other tournaments that have had concerns brought up publicly), so Magnus did something he had done before, made something he saw as a wrong committed by SLCC and made it public to force change. Last time it was because 3 players tied for 1st and one of them was going to be cut out of the elimination games, Magnus made public that he wouldn't stand for that and Sinquefield changed course. This time, SLCC had the ability to increase security (they pretty quickly instituted more security measures that they still use) and instead hoped the players would let it go. Magnus was wrong, but his sin was because of SLCC's original sin.
@@johncreekpaum4998 Extra security takes time and money, and they ignored what was obvious hysteria caused by unfounded suspicions and personal feelings about Hans. It's hard to fault them for that.
@@bluefin.64 Extra security they were able to get at the drop of a hat after the blow up, and hysteria that was ultimately founded in the fact that Hans had cheated online against one of the players in the tournament (Nepo). SLCC denied the "hysteria", then Hans admits to cheating in the past which proves the players right and SLCC should have listened. They ended up having to spend the extra money, probably spent more because they needed to rush everything, and all the drama is avoided if SLCC does the right thing for both the players and Hans. Say they believe his play is above board, and to make sure everyone knows that they beef up security (which they had to do anyway).
Hmmm hans why in the nine Hells are people still promoting him. it's not cheating .and not attitude its play which is not good. And their are better players.
On the live list Hans is currently tied for 16th with Shak, ahead of Duda, MVL, Keymer, Aronian, Giri, and Vidit, among others. You don't get there by playing bad chess.
I like what Can Kabadayi is saying, that there is no scientific consensus yet about what is really working in chess improvement. He's a good and passionate chess coach (he coaches me). I liked this episode, thank you! 👍
@@perpetualchesspodcast9143 You are for sure a great guy too and I really love your podcasts. Amazingly information rich and interesting. Keep on going like this and I hope you will have some time to enjoy the chess game yourself too 😀 (Plus all the other aspects of life!)
Streamers, commentators, youtubers and other content creators - interviewing each other all the time. Give me some episodes with people that havent got their own platform. I maybe could have choosen a more relevant episode for this opinion. Random that it is now i write it. Nothing against this particular episode, just the general trend.
@@perpetualchesspodcast9143 Sorry, I have no suggestions. You have over the years done an amazing job in finding a lot of interesting trainers, adult improvers, topplayers etc., so I better leave that all up to you 🙂 I just vote for less of the mentioned trend.
