Hi! Thank you so much for being here! My name is Tressa Lloyd, and I create videos for teachers, parents, and fellow educational superheroes! I am a grade five teacher in my sixth year of teaching. I live in Canada - currently in Alberta, though I am originally from Prince Edward Island. I am also a dog mom to my sweet girl, Kaya! I share videos to teach new concepts and strategies, provide tricks, tips, and ideas for new teachers to tackle those BIG first year hurdles, and vlog-style videos to connect with others in the profession. I would love to have you subscribe, and tag along for the ride!

Iḿ watching this video a couple years after it was made, but just want to pass on that you are not alone! I taught for over 10 years before I took several years off to stay home and raise my own kids. I was in the middle of getting back into teaching and then.....Covid hit. One of my first groups of kids I had was 100% online. I LOVED that group of kids. The following year I moved back into the classroom and it. Was. Rough. The ¨mourning¨ you speak of....I totally get that! I had an amazing group of kids online and even though I loved my in-person kids, it just left me feeling like not a good teacher so many days. Anyways, I see you and think I can relate to how you feel (or were feeling two years ago!!). Thank you for all your videos!!!
Oh, and do you happen to have a link for those stickers you got on Amazon? I’m gonna look for them. I want to stir away from always giving candy as prizes.
I have a black-and-white theme as well and it’s just so much easier to add pops of color and different ways each year. I love your curtain rod for the laminated anchor charts! Also, I love the sign that you have by your desk the black-and-white sign with a great route about teaching children-where did you get that?
How do the rewards work? For movies and pj parties does the entire class have to contribute to the $800 or each participating student must pay $800? Idk if I missed that part or not
Do you have a link of your cart? I have 32 students and my small current cart is a mess. It can only hold up to 28 Chromebooks. I like how it has 2 rows to hold the chargers.
Hello bu guru, pekerjaan yang sangat mulia menjadi seorang guru, Boleh tanya sedikit ya, Kegiatan pembelajaran seperti apa bagi para murid ketika menggunakan chromebook? Terimakasih.
I love your ideas and well thought out plans for your classroom economy. I will definitely be implementing a lot of this in my fouth grade class this year! Is it possible to get the link for the wallets you have in the video? I have searched and cannot find something that has that additional pocket for the name card and I really like that idea. Thanks in advance.
I'm loving the affirmations mirror. Im going to give it a try but was thinking with middle schoolers, I might have to find a space inside the classroom. Any suggestions on placement and also how will you use it. Thanks
Hey Tress! I am starting my first year teaching Gr 5/6 split next year and your videos are super helpful, thank you! I also watched your video about the classroom economy. I am thinking of implementing this next year. How soon would you recommend I introduce this to the students? Thanks again!
Hi!! Thanks so much for watching and commenting 🤍 (I notice you have a Samoyed too - my Summit is almost two years old. The BEST doggos!) I highly recommend using a classroom economy - I will be implementing it in my classroom for the sixth year in a row. It is honestly the best tool! You will definitely modify/adjust to make it your own but I think you’ll love it. I would recommend getting started very early on. I almost always start within the first two weeks. I usually take a lot of time to introduce it and speak specifically about each job and then it honestly runs itself. Good luck! 🙂
I'm really enjoying your channel, thank you taking the time to vlog and sharing so many great ideas! One of my takeaways was the "We Missed You" folder - I teach K-5 Art and have well over 600 students. I don't experience too many students being absent but when they are I make sure to jot down the names in a section of my planbook that I title A.A.N (Absent Artist Notes) I'll jot down their names and what step of the project they'll have to work on when they return. I think adding the component of a folder for them to check would be awesome!!! I color coordinate each grade level so maybe I can have an area where the students can go and check what they missed. This is going to be fun to create. Thank you once again! P.S. Loved seeing your special guest!!! ADORABLE!!!!
Please be careful about saying students need to get a certain amount done in a certain amount of time for time management to be considered reasonable. I understand it matches real life and for some, deadlines motivate. As someone with certain disabilities, those words would stress me out more than motivate me. I love your way of doing KWL charts as it's more personal and I also need to get used to noise in the classroom too. If you have Google, make a class website!
I´m fine with teachers wanting to do all the extras to spiff up their classrooms on their own time. I enjoy doing that myself. What I am not okay with is the fact that everything that is mandatory for teachers to get done on a daily, weekly, and monthly basis cannot be completed, even by the best teacher, during contract hours only. I´m a 25 year teacher and I am very productive during the school day and I choose to come an hour early each day to prep for upcoming lessons. My children are grown, so I am able to get out early. Even with that extra time at school, I still have to get work done during the evenings and on weekends. Expectations for teachers have grown exponentially in my 25 years and it isn´t fair!
Hi everyone!! Thank you for being here and checking out my new classroom 🎉 I am truly in love with this space, and am enjoying spending my time in here each day. Let me know if there is anything you want to see in more detail and I can share in a future vlog!
I love your videos so much! Thank you for posting them. I will be starting my placement at the end of October.. I would be so lucky to have a partner teacher like you! Have you ever had a student teacher? You would be amazing.. so supportive and positive :) Have a great week!
Oh, I’m so excited for you!! I had the BEST mentor teachers when I was in school. It was so fun to be finally where I had always dreamed of being - teaching! I have never had a student teacher in my own classroom. There aren’t any universities close by to me so I’m guessing that’s why we don’t really get any at our school. I would be open to it, of course, because I think it’s important to give back. I also love helping new teachers so I think it would be challenging but fun! I hope you have a wonderful experience with it 🤍
Are you American? I find so many Canadians have American accents...funny that....I guess its all the tv and social media influences.... Thanks for some of the tips...I'm not sure about using an economy system but I might try this...I really enjoyed seeing how you organized stuff too Always nice to know other teachers deal with the same emotions...like saying goodbye each year and hello the next!!
Thank you for being here and commenting! I still use my classroom economy and LOVE it! No, I am definitely not American haha I grew up on the East Coast of Canada and now live in the west, so my accent is a bit of a combination right now. It has been interesting to see it change over time and my family always comments on it when I am back home.
@@teachwithtress118 can you link me that Bingo chip multiplication activity? It was with partner and popsicle sticks. I can't find the video as you pack quite a bit into each...and I'm following grade 5 year...last year I was grade 6...also did you have any issues with your admin. using class economy? I just wondered as I'd love to do something like this
i have the chips and wrote most of the tables to 12 (except 1 x) but I don't know where to write the answers and how to distribute to student pairs-would the facts be matched to the answers or just random?
It was funny when you were going through your laws because my reaction was "Didn't you tell your students not to use "no" when they were making theirs?" yet you were using all of those words😂. You could make a dictatorship connection to if I remember correctly from past videos Diary of Anne Frank.
Oh my gosh, so true!! I didn’t even notice this 😂 I will have to chat with my students about it too. You’re so right - I love that my Social curriculum this year connects history and modern concepts. Chatting about government has been really fun and my kids are super engaged so far.
