Everyone’s hating but I don’t see them doing this to fix anything . Props for being creative even if it isn’t the correct way it still works if you’re in a pinch and don’t wanna spend hundreds on a machine shop .
i would have scraped the edges of those coolant channels and oil passages, looks like there's some massive burrs just waiting to break off into the cooling system and engine
It's not that WD40 is a lubricant for this method, it is a solvent. Any solvent will work. Ditto for the cleanup. In fact, alcohol is pretty poor for this job.
That top was in pretty good condition to begin with. Havent watched to the end yet, excited to see the result Not bad, danm I might consider that for cleaning up my fading black top
2 yrs ago i left a reply about doing this on my drivers side window. Now i'm finally getting to the passenger side. It's not playing nice even with a brand new blade, wd40, and maybe 80 degree weather under a carport. Not happy. No access to a heat gun or a garage for other methods i've seen on youtube, so i'm taking it off layer by layer, little by little. Edit not long after...i gave up til i feel like trying again. Who knows when that'll be. Just too many small pieces/slivers of single or both layers coming off at a time. Most of it still needs to be taken off. Frustrating. You make it look so easy.
Use masonite board next time instead of ply, it's cheap as hell and what factory door cards are made of. You only need 3-4mm thick. Using masonite also allows you to use a cheap stapler to attach your upholstery. Also use spray adhesive. Don't worry about waterproofing like people suggest just Put your plastic dust seals back on underneath. They are there from factory for a reason. Maybe also use some removeable hardware to bolt them on.
