Hello everyone welcome to my channel, We are a small family dairy farm in somerset in the south west on England. Join us on our journey with our new start up dairy that we began in 2023. All sorts of aspects of farming life in somerset will be covered from milking cows to growing crops to feed them. hope you all enjoy the videos and I look forward to hearing anything people want to see more of :) Please consider subscribing to keep up to date with what's going on on the farm
Thanks for your comment on the fbp it's on the screen but we had an I bio before and unfortunately there's isn't really a proper way to make the bales tighter, you can adjust the wrap to wrap tighter on the left hand side of the baler where the rollers are for the wrap to feed in but no actual adjustment on the chamber
@@winteragriculturalservices1678 I remember our old one used to take ages cutting bales up.. I’ll give you a shout out at some point to Get your channel growing. You make some really good vids. 👍
Yeah definitely worth going for the twin auger trouble is the longer it takes the more hours on the tractor the more fuel the more wear ect it all adds up, that would be amazing! Have been trying to get to 1000 for a while now. A shout put would help loads thanks very much!
Ahh yeah was a good baler to be honest we just outgrew it, yeah shear bolts were a pain might need a new shim where the shear bolt goes if it's a bit worn there are more prone to breaking.
What do you think of your blue power mate now you have had her for quite a while? We have just got one and takes abit getting used to after having range command for years.
Love it, had a t6 180 auto command before that was my first auto command and it was decent but could be a bit jumpy, the 225 is much smoother I feel. Not the ideal gearbox for carting in my opinion but for baling and field work I think it's great. But definitely a learning curve when I first went to auto command. Love your videos BTW
@@winteragriculturalservices1678 I wish we had a auto commmand years ago.. it’s definitely a game changer.. like you say it’s definitely a nice smooth tractor. I don’t think we will go back to range command again now..
Yeah brothers 210 is a power command and whenever I drive it I miss the auto aha wouldn't go back dad on the other hand hates auto but I think he's just to old 🤣
@@winteragriculturalservices1678 😂😂it definitely takes some used to driving.. the fastracs is totally different again, but with the new Holland I still wanna keep going for the clutch pedal as a habit. 🤦♂️😂
New to the channel and loving the vids so far. We have an iBio and get 30/ph but we have steep hills and zero flat fields so every bale has to be reversed and placed- bale is wrapped and ready to drop by the time I get into a suitable position for released. Local contractor with a fusion has to do the same around us so most he can manage is 35-40ph
Hi there glad your enjoying them, yes with our ibio we used to average the same and remember doing some on some step fields and agree a full combination wouldn't be any quicker luckily we're fairly flat here so can get on quite quickly 👌
That’s a lovely shed and very light and airy. Really like the grids at the ends as no turning muck around corners as all straight and no rain water contact on the muck👍. Maybe worth while adjusting the wings of that yard scraper on the bolt holes as it could be then as wide or a little wider than the tractor.
Thanks for you comment has been a great shed cows really seem to be happy and content in there everything works well, Did move the scraper out but then the rubbed was fairly straight and didn't bring much muck with it, would like a box scraper for there really
Definitely been a bit of a roller coaster since we started in November last year but have enjoyed it and everything seems to be settling into place nicely
Nice to hear you’re dairying 😉. Hope all goes well 👍 Did you not get the robot going as you sounded more like being a conventional parlour dairyman. ? And your comment on nothing much has happened really don’t explain the change as done it myself just over 4 years ago and it definitely alters one’s lifestyle somewhat 😥. Good to get that slurry out as grows very little in the tank👍
We still have the robots to be put in but we are at a rented farm in a parlour at the moment as it just got us milking more quickly allot to put in place to get the robots going
@@winteragriculturalservices1678 that sounds a smart move but hopefully you can find sometime still to focus on your own install as be easier at home but I’d guess still a mega amount of work to get everything in place. Video it in detail as it will be a lovely record of what you’ve achieved and accomplished for future reference 😉 I personally think milking via a parlour pre robots is essential. We milked with a bail for 3 months pre robots coming online and it give’s routine and hands on experience which is vital. At least its given you chance to get a milk contract in place and start producing as with some oversupply in the pipeline it was great to have gotten a contract before doors tightened 😊. Would your milk just be crossing Bridgewater? Nice n local if you are😊
@@kevinmanley2498 yeah hopefully towards the end of the year into 2024 we will be getting close to being sorted with robots, definetly plane to film it all as will be great to look back and see it in years to come. Used to milk in a 6 step up when I was 19/20 and then worked on a farm with Delaval robots that transitioned back to a parlour whilst I worked there so have had a fair bit of experience with a few different systems which is always good. and definitely been ideal to get a contract under our belt and get that all important milk cheque coming in every month. Milk is actually going to Ditcheat barbers cheese. The local guys weren't interested in a small new start up :/ But Barbers have been great!
been baling all kinds of straw for more than a decade with fixed chamber baler. some quick tips. chopping or not? we dont chop at all as it can cause all kinds of issues with blocking, rotation and just overall hard on bearings etc. you can do higher speeds and/or bigger swaths as it will lessen the time the straw is in the baler and reduce heat buildup + helps rotation with even and big cropflow. and since its dry straw you wont do any compacting as you do with silage so no point in running it hard on hard density as you will just wear out your baler faster make sure you get the correct amount of net and the right "stretch" on it to keep bale from expanding. look into if you can get a more aggressive profile on your rollers if youre planning to do osme straw as it will help alot with rotation. have so on ours, other brand mind you.
only using 4layers for silage?? or was that 4layers on the back + the front? Here in scandinavia 8 layers have been the "standard" last few years for silage to ensure its airtight, can handle some transport and storage etc. for some customers still go for 6l layer but for next year it seems everyone will be going to 8l. if it saves a few bales from mold and such then it would have been worth it overall so i understand them. for hay and haylage we are running everything from 12 to 16 layers. Yea its pricy but they want it and are willing to pay for it so ill wrap em that much. Also been using widefilm / film on film since 2010 now and the technology has improved alot and happy to see the other baler brands have picked it up and made it available so most people are able to try it and experience the benefits. its been tricky in dry and very dry conditions but its now working well enough for most brands on both fixed and vario balers. And it looks like ill be getting a Pottinger Impress VC 3160 for next year which im looking forward to as vario will make the densest bales and very uniform density to the core, i can make the size bale the client want, has best chopping with its knife bank that you can pullout and has 32 knives.
Wow, yep must keep that area clean, we just just lost our T7 210, fire started same area, totally destroyed whole tractor in 20 minutes, couldn’t stop it, Possibly birds nest or hay I don’t know, or electrical maybe.
Can you make me a modarator for this chanwl plus what is your thoughts on nh telehandlers a neighbor of ours is looking at one is their anyrhing to look out for was it much better than that old class one u had
Definitely perfer to bale up autumn grass here than have sheep into eat up grass as absolutely HATE sheep 😞. Little sods puddle ground and caused compaction and capping of ground and delay spring growth☹️ I personally think the biggest down side of the Kuhn baler is it’s width but the tandem axle excels for transportation compared to McHale floating boats ( fusions) as dreadful ride comfort for the operator. . Much preferred the John Deere combination for travelling . I really like the look of the film binding system as loading normal 750mm rolls of wrap is way more convenient than McHale film on film system. Really like the 14 roll storage👍. How many bales with the film binding can youdo with the 2 front rolls?
Yeah don't get me started on sheep brother has them and I hate them aha Yeah due to the axels being either side of the bale chamber that means it is awfully wide but the comfort is definitely better Also having all 750 roll means its much simpler just ordering pallets of 750 rolls and that's all we need The front rolls do around just over double the back so 130ish for the front and 60 for the back :)
@@winteragriculturalservices1678 that’s very good going with the film binding as it works out just slightly over the pound a bale so not really much more than netwrap is costing these days. And if your silage is coming out good on 4 layers then that’s a good saving. Run a fusion 3 here and everything is wrapped at 6 layers so that’s around 40 bales for two rolls. Yours will be costing less than that and no netwrap at around £200 a roll these days. Definitely food for thought!!!!
Had a good mate that alway said “ That the only thing more stupid than sheep are the idiots that buy them!!!” . Often think he was fairly near the mark😂
Never really tried one most of pur kit comes from pur local nh dealer they do a great job for us so we just stick with them they sell kuhn which has never let us down so no real reason to change I'd give anything a try though 👍
Thanks for the comment, we're just trying to get as much grass as we can due to a very hot summer and poor growth also some of these fields are being resown so just clearing up what's there 🙂
@@eddiethornton1859 Both been great, The old one the paint has faded a bit but the new one think they've changed the paint as hasn't faded at all, Is absolutely solid trailer very strong id defo recommend
Nice to see a new video 👍. Any progress with the milking robot as been looking forward to that. I know exactly what you mean re town being busy as had to collect my son from Cannington agri college last Friday and musta taken all but an hour to get through Bridgewater due partly to that Bleady fair and road works I think. Ended up cutting back past the reservoir to Lydiard and did pass a new Holland telehandler on outskirts of town and half wondered if maybes it was yours
Thanks for the comment fair really buggerd everything up, yeah probably was ours we have cattle by the reservoir we take silage over to with the handler every other day 👍 milking robots are still a ways off unfortunately but they will be here eventually 👌
Thanks , just wondering I have a bio at the moment and just ordered a new one the other day, I would like to see the bale's a bit better, thought the new one might b better?
O no i have break downs when ye ran a standerd kuhn what wrapper did yiu run im going to a big machinery show today called the tolomore show in the midle of the country so im going to try a few differ makes of combi i will say it will be kuhn but who knows
Yeah always a pain but dealer got us back up and running quickly so that was good, when we had a wrapper that was also kuhn aha have always ran allot of kuhn kit always found it well built and work well. Hope you enjoy the show 👌
She is an 1000 speed shaft bigest tyres available camless 5 rows of tines 2.0 meter pickup and she has the 3d wrapping ring with an isobus control box whats your thoughts
Our first baler was a standard kuhn fixer chamber, then we changed to the ibio which meant we only needed one tractor for wrapping and baling and now the fbp to speed the job up even more 👌
