Hello everyone! I'm Mason In the dark: the Blind Narrator. My name is Mason Adey, I'm a completely blind author & freelance narrator from Staffordshire, England. I was born visually impaired but I've been totally blind since February 13th 2017.
This channel is the HQ of blackscreen Audio Productions. Storytelling is my passion and I'm dedicated to producing easily accessible audio entertainment. Here you can find a variety of creative projects, all written and narrated by yours truly, alongside the traditional authortube content we all know and love.
I'm proud to present dark and epic fantasy, satirical comedy, science fiction and spoken word poetry. There's always an exciting new project on its way down the pipeline and you never know what you're going to get next... because neither do I.

@@krisreviews Omg, I'm so glad you enjoyed it. I had such a good time with the recording process, especially because I got to do my "Wise Old Man" pseudo-Gandalf voice. There was just so much to work with and I'm so proud of the end result. I'd say the biggest factor in this happening was our mutual Book Bud, Joe. I told him I wanted to do a collaboration such as this and he just ran off and started advocating for me. He's a legend. I really, really hope there are more projects like this to come.

Whoa!!! Two of my favorite booktubers collaborating. Mason this narration is superb. I couldn’t move once I started listening. I was frozen, transfixed for the duration ! Your performance is consistent with your other stellar material and I am left just wanting you to narrate all my books. Please and thank you! David !!! This story is insane !!! A “divine cleansing”! Whoa! The imagery in here is out of this world. I had no idea my Silver Fox was so talented. Bravo.
Honestly, I was captivated by the setting and I had an absolute blast doing The Oarsman's voice. This is probably up there with some of the most fun I've had with narration and I'm glad you enjoyed it. Thanks for always filling me with confidence :)
While reading The Flatshare, I thought it would make a terrific movie. I was disappointed to hear it was a TV show instead, and after your comments, I really don't care to hunt it down
Loved this! It also kinda makes me wish I were doing more watching and creating with booktube these days. Not that I'm doing anything super exciting instead but... I hope you're doing well and glad you're continuing to make content and share your talents!

What? I just discovered I'm an oldie on here, haha. Hard to believe I'm keeping at it since 2020. It was pretty exciting to be included in the half human heroes Anthology but I must admit, I didn't feel my story was fantasy enough for it. And I agree with you about making thumbnails. It's the least enjoyable part about it. Hopefully we'll both stick around to do the ancient booktuber tag!
Hey Jess, I'm sorry it's taken me so long to get back to you. I'm not sure why this comment slipped through the cracks. Yeah, sorry, you're an oldie now. We're old, grizzled booktubers who've seen it all and we look at the young whippersnappers and think "you don't know what you're getting yourself into, kid". One day they'll all be as jaded as we are 🤣 I'm genuinely gutted that I still haven't had the chance to read your story. I hope I find a way to do so eventually.
It usually takes me ages to come up with an idea for a thumbnail but, this time, I knew exactly what I wanted before I'd even finished recording. I'm not sure I'm mentally equipped to handle the depth of that irony and I'm sort of afraid my brain might melt.

I know, it's been a couple of weeks since the last one and I haven't been very active during this first quarter. Honestly, I think I was a little bit burned out at the beginning of this year and had very little motivation to do anything. I'm over that now though so I'm making a bit more effort but I think I'm gonna have to accept that I'll probably only upload two videos a month because attempting to force myself to do more is a ticket to disappointing myself. I've never found your videos to be inaccessible, I think you do a pretty good job of describing things, especially wen you're describing something you're passionate about. 👍🤣 the mental image of this was absolutely brilliant, thank you. It's kinda entertaining that everyone seems to be basically saying "f**k it, just give up on the thumbnails all together and do this every time instead". I sort of feel obliged to listen to be honest, though the problem would be that eventually there wouldn't be any more font/colour combos left lmao.
3:46 - very good point I know there is no way I can even be aware of all the pockets, layers and bubbles that make up booktube- would love an interconnected spider diagram though! 💜📚
I think if Booktube was a pie chart: The pie would be mostly split between Fantasy Lovers and Horror Fans, with the former taking a slightly larger portion. The remaining pie would be divided in fairly small slices amongst the rest of the genres. What becomes difficult is trying to work out the sub-genres, because Epic Fantasy probably takes up a larger portion than Romantasy, and Supernatural Horror probably takes up a bigger portion than Body Horror etc. I'm gonna be thinking about this all day now...

Anything can sound like a villainous monicker with the right inflection. If I say it in a scary voice Chattie The Mad Chatter sounds like some sort of babbling villain who's rambling monologues melt the brains of their foes.

Mason mason mason ! You my friend are the most entertaining fella I’ve ever had the pleasure of being friends with. This video was brilliant. The accents had me dying laughing ! You know I love a good accent. Those damn thumbnails !!! Arrrrggghhhh!!!! Well this thumbnail is perfect. Just use a version of that for every video. lol. Different colors. Different fonts! YOu're always far too kind to me, I love it. Any excuse to do an accent makes me a happy man and especially so when I know it's definitely going to entertain somebody :') See, now everyone's agreeing about the thumbnail and I feel sort of obliged to comply. There's only so many colour/font combos though.

Yeah, it's the first time I've done this sort of thing and I really enjoyed it, esepcially because I got Joe to listen to Sweetpea :') I definitely think I could see you having a good time with this one. It's got a lot of that fairytale whimsy you usually enjoy. Maybe it could be one of your naughty beach reads haha. I was pretty impressed so i definitely think there'll be more Klune in my future. Mason !! It wasn’t risky for you to start here because I know your style ! Lol I knew you’d be able to handle it. So glad you listened to this one. The narrator deserves an award for his performance. As the series progresses some of the supporting characters do show growth through their arcs. TJ refers to this series as “erotic Shrek” lmao. Pretty funny. Indeed, credit to you for having a spot on estimation of what I'd like. I'm glad the characters get a bit of developement later on. They're all awesome and they deserve it. Morgan was one of my faves to be honest, I love his arc throughout. It's so funny that he's like "I just roll with it" by the end of the book lmao. Yeah, erotic shrek is pretty much a perfect description. Glad you enjoyed this one buddy. You're such a cheerleader, I need you standing over me whilst I write so you can just be like "Yeah, you go boy, you got this son!". It'll pump me up and increase the quality of the writing by at least 10,000%
It was, without a doubt, unlike anything else I've ever read. I think in the hands of a lesser author it would've fallen flat on its face to be honest. Sometimes I read/watch/play something that has an amazing core concept with all this potential but whoever came up with the story just didn't quite have the skill to execute the idea they've envisioned, I even feel that way about myself occasionally. Yeah... I need to get back to that. To be honest I started to sour on the concept because it felt a bit try-hard but it's been so long that I could probably go back to it with fresh eyes and reel it in a bit.
13:53 - Chuckling away on my way to work - Love hearing your array of interesting interviwers. I am terrified by the voice of some sort of evil pit of doom 😱 Trying to not comment until the end to break my, "not got time to watch as need to comment Curse", fail! I wanted tell you I love your visual turn of phrase, then forgot the example - but I have just heard it again so telling g you now..."the army of ideas" I love it. I definitely have visual images playing in my head, although not always easy to voice what they are as sometimes those visions aren't tangible. But writers block dropped like a huge block of wood on this 2D hillside that's sort of bisected, like the Bayer tapestry - and this army of Ideas halts momentarily. The army of ideas looks like a cross between skeletons and droids from the Phantem Menace (beige stick like figures with a sort of metal funnel cylinder Horse nose) and carry arms of scrolls, giant notepads, pencils, feathers quills and are currently dragging a giant dictiphone like a beige weapon. They have got out ladders, spades and are going under, over and around The writers wooden block 😂😂😂 💜📚

Hey buddy, it's so good to hear from you! Yeah, it can be really difficult at times but it's just the way it is. More than anything, the reason I talked about it was to let people in on my process a bit more. I feel like sometimes I forget to illustrate problems with my blindness because they're so mundane to me, but everyone else might find them interesting. It makes me so happy that you're looking forward to the TBG finale, although it's coming along fairly slowly because I want to get it right. Tales Of The Limitless City is just my imagination getting to run wild and free and I'm absolutely buzzing to eventually share it with everyone. Baldor's Gate is addictive. We've been no-lifing it for the last month. There's so much to it and, just like you said, it's really sparked an interest in the wider D&D world. I feel like there's so much to the game that I'm never going to be able to stop playing, what wit the possible variations. I might be a minority here, but I don’t mind the time gaps at all… I just go listen to the previous couple parts again, shucks darn… what I mean is fans don’t mind how much time you take. What I DO mind (not that you need to care what strangers on the internet think, obviously) is you stressing yourself out so I’m thrilled to hear your plan to address that and I hope it works for you. I'm glad you feel that way. To be honest, the staggered releases isn't the only driving force behind the hiatus. I really want to get the story straight so I know what I'm doing going forward and I think the time to plan will do me the world of good. Plus, I actually really like the idea of trying to run TBG in the way TVshows are handled. I think of it as an Authortube Original series and I like the idea of having multiple seasons rather than books, if that makes sense? As for being excited about the projects: I have a feeling you'll probably get a kick out of Tales Of The Limitless City. I think you'll probably enjoy what I'm doing with the world building, especially because of all the pantheon related stuff. I can't wait to get it all finished and share it with everyone. Ah, you're far too kind. I don't know if I'd call myself a pro yet but prctice makes perfect and I'm improving all the time. Like I say, it's difficult but I love it. I'm honoured that you love my descriptions so much, I assure you that one day the unicorn will be a thing. I could never not write it now.
