My name is Sam Schmidt, and I create custom leather boots and repair the ones you wear now. I am the owner of Schmidt’s Bootmaker & Repair; a traditional boot making shop offering made-to-measure footwear, repairs for your run-down shoes & boots, and one-on-one boot making classes where you get to create your own boots from beginning to end.
I wish I had seen this sooner! I bought a pair of these in all black rough out and have walked about 90 miles in them over the last 3 weeks. I don’t think the break in will ever happen with a cardboard insole… so they just hurt!
The pancakes you made today aren’t home made because you didn’t grow the wheat and mill the flour. The butter totally came from the store. Oh, and that gas you use in your stove? Totally store bought. I mean, nothing wrong with store bought, but just please be more honest about what you’re advertising. 🙁 I will never claim to have done anything myself ever again. 💔
It having been Mother’s Day yesterday, my wife got a break from getting her nails painted by our 2 yr old. On the other hand (no pun intended) my nails have a little more color today. Good thing I have acetone by the gallons.
Thanks so much for making and sharing this, Sam. As far as I've seen, this might be the only step-by-step video of glass slippers making and fitting on RU-vid!
of course! Not a lot of people make boots anymore, and even then, don't film their processes. I teach in-person and online classes too if you want to learn even more! www.schmidtsbootmaker.com under 'classes'.
Sure, for the material and how it’s made that’s the price they are worth. But for them to say high quality and handmade that’s incorrect and I’ll stand by that.
...what? Brass Vs Iron no explanation or VS to speak of? Why is shoemaking content so bad? Are we just all introverts and afraid to speak into a mic? 🎤
Here is the explanation for Brass vs. Iron nails for ya. Started writing more info in the comments because youtube only lets you use so many letters in the title, looks like I forgot this one. You can look at all my other videos and find audio. It’s essential to use brass nails and not iron nails because iron will rust and rot out the leather. Using brass nails for your boots will take longer to oxidize, and to rot the leather.
Thank you for watching! Would love to get more videos out. I still run a full time cobbler shop repairing boots and shoes, so finding the time to do so is hard.
I pretty sure a human has to operate and hand guide the sewing machine as it stitches the welt. Imo that is still handmade just not hand stitched. At least compared to cemented (glued) shoes that use multiple machines on an assembly line to press the uppers to the sole and inject bonding.
Still a no for me. That’s like saying driving 30mph is running 30mph. I’m operating the pedal with my foot so really I ran it doesn’t make sense to me just like saying I guide a shoe through a machine therefore it’s handmade.
@@user-tt7tj1ws6k I have in-depth video tutorials available for purchase here schmidtsbootmaker.getlearnworlds.com/home?fbclid=PAAaZZJ5k_UNjmJPNw649Ns-OHKEJ0h7TtXcYDajk8-Cb8uSTr0LLk3tJF6T4_aem_AYQ8K4jFaxbnBowpFKsU6scNmovsUWgEvpId_v0uyajZml1Wf96fPk8uyLehOlKgUqo These are step by step. I have one just going over pattern making and then the other a full course on how to make a pair of boots
Incredible work! Do you have any recommended resources for the flat pattern drafting method you use? I've mostly seen drafting on the last from a lot of cordwainers/shoemakers.
Its called geometric pattern making George koleff made it popular. Some boot makers dont like it because theres a lot of equations to remember and you cant make every kind of shoe or boot like mocs. Its my favorite method.
@@andrew1234580yeah no problem. I also have a pre-recorded course on patter making. schmidtsbootmaker.getlearnworlds.com/home?fbclid=PAAaZZJ5k_UNjmJPNw649Ns-OHKEJ0h7TtXcYDajk8-Cb8uSTr0LLk3tJF6T4_aem_AYQ8K4jFaxbnBowpFKsU6scNmovsUWgEvpId_v0uyajZml1Wf96fPk8uyLehOlKgUqo
Really awesome work. I'm really amazed at the detail and amount of work it takes to make a boot. What an increadable design the look fantastic. Really looking forward to getting a pair from you and who know maybe even take a class. The whole process was mesmerising . Loved it. Your work is impecable.
Um redwings use leather insoles, and they are good year welted. As do my grant stones. Construction style has nothing to with quality. Even Blake stitched boots can be made with good materials. They are machine made, yes, but that has nothing to do with quality.
