Of course they could. Tim Severin and his crew also showed you can do it in a Curragh made of leather, in his 1977-78 Brendan voyage, he made a replica and actually sailed it across the North Atlantic himself.

Though the skeptics don’t believe it, the Vikings made it as far inland as Heavener, Oklahoma. Where they carved a huge 11 ft tall runestone . They think it’s fake but it’s real, I visit the stone several times a year.

What is with you people? The Viking settlements in Newfoundland were discovered more then 60 years ago and have been thoroughly excavated and documented. Not only did the Vikings "discover" North America, they also colonized it. So what is this deal with you "trying to prove it was possible"?

Sorry but Columbus did not discover America. He only reached Cuba no farther. It was De Soto who went into Florida. Why Columbus gets so much credit is beyond me.

The "hooked X" is on the Kensington Stone. THAT symbol was not really understood or verified until the 2000's. IMPOSSIBLE to be there if the stone was truly a forgery.

When the Vikings arrived they had the same weaponry as the natives, but the natives had home field advantage. When the Europeans returned 500 years later they had refined their weaponry by constantly waging war. The American natives were mostly peaceful and had not changed their weapons.

Vikings also used axe's so it could also be that the iron bulb was for sturdyness of the shield and protection of the hand holding it

He mentioned there was a reason that there wasn't any shield straps in part 1 and I still didn't understand why until they started dueling half way through part 2. Everything he explained I felt you could do with shield straps to have more control of the shield. But during the duel I started to see the use of shifting the shield with the wrist to an advantage rather than disadvantage and I started to get it.

It's remarkable how the longships of the Vikings didn't sink when hitting the high waves of the Atlantic.
@EdinburghFive

It is doubtful they used the longboat. They would more likely have used the more seaworthy Knarr for deep ocean sailing.
@jorgeo4483
@jorgeo4483 9 месяцев назад
That is not remarkable, the hulls deform to adopt the shape of the waves, the complicated thing is to take the boat to those distances without caulking.

The Viking were everywhere back then, they travel in rivers. Founded the rus land later known as Russia. They traveled on the Danube, became soldiers and guards Imperor of the Byzantian Impire. Amongst others. So it ls likely they "traded" many items duering their travels
