I have a 1953 JD 40 with a creak in the one wheel, sounds like a bearing. Would you know if i have to remove the whole final drive to replace the bearing?.
No, he is correct that is a 40T with wide frontend. The 40 T had the tall back tires and along with dual tilted front tires, single front wide tire or the wide frontend as pictured. We had one for many years that was ordered with the wide frontend, they are quite rare. If you order parts for that tractor they all come from the tricycle catalog including parts for the wide frontend.
@@calebgeers3690 No it is a 40T, yes typically the T references a Tricycle frontend but with this John Deere model the T referenced the frame style for the rear axle and the tall tires and portal axles. A 40S was way shorter and had a totally different rear end and axle arrangement, not to mention the wheels were totally different.
Awesome. I’ve seen your parts on eBay and have heard a lot of people say what a nice guy you are and how helpful you were to them. I’m just getting ready to build one 1010 dozer out of three. It had the bolts loosen up from the reverser to the trans like they do and the guy didn’t notice in time. It stripped the shaft out or the coupling. Have not gotten into it far enough to know which yet. Hoping just the coupler stripped out and the shafts are not all messed up. We’ll see I guess. Have you ever seen someone cut a key way into the shafts to fix that instead of having to take the reverser apart to change them out? Just a thought I had
