The heat cover on the 00-01 on the intake manifold below fuel rail was to help prevent the fuel rail from heat soaking causing a missfire upon a start up after its warm esp on hot days. Ive had 63 xjs in the past 20 years. I do run 180 degree thermostats in mine. You do not need to if your cooling system is new and for the cost it should all be new its cheap easy to do like you said. I feel like with the 180 t stat i can get more power out of the 4.0 with the manifold already heating up the intake the other plus side is my ac is colder with the 180 t stat. Some ppl dissagree. My jeeps can sit in traffic all day and not go over 210 ever even off rev limiter for minutes on end in the woods offroad. I run the water pump that pumps more at low rpm for rock crawling trail runniing it works well. I loterally held my jeeps off limiter soo long i lost oil pressure from the oil getting that hot! And temp was a needle or 2 over 210 thats like glowing red manifold status lol. Ive never had sludge buildup or any adverse effects long term running 180 t stats. I woulda also recommended if its a renix put the cap style radiator in get rid of that capless junk system immediately. All that being said I mainly specialize in 97-01 xjs nowdays too hard to find rust free ones where I live. Nice video should help alot of new xj owners. I spray brake clean on the cps if it goes out that works like a champ i never tried water good tip i might try it next time. Id replace cap rotor and use brass tip ones with ngk plugs. Id also recommend doing idler pulley and serpentine belt immediately too. I go on rock auto spend 300$ and its bullet proofed

When I got the TSB in the mail for my 2000xj back in the day it stated the heat shield was dual purpose. But yes , it was mainly for heat soak issues. The TSB also included a little insulating sleeve around injector # 3. My buddy worked at Jeep dealer as a tech and this never solved the issue according to him. What worked for me with heat soak was putting a timer on the Efan to run 3 minutes after the engine had been shut down. Worked absolutely perfectly. Thanks for the kind words. I really enjoy documenting these jeeps. Got a 93 XJ I’m going through right now. Video is uploading as we speak ! Cheers !

With a lift I’d be going through suspension components , mounts and anything suspension related , really. Of course that lift it putting strain on pretty much everything on the Jeep. But I’d start with getting any bushing checked over and a good alignment. Check track bar for play as well.

My grandmother had an XJ Sport with the 4.0 and 4 speed auto, got it for new back in 1995. The only reason she got rid of it was because the parking brake sensor started having trouble engaging the system as a whole. Outside of that, the car was structurally and mechanically mint condition. There were a few cosmetic problems but if she put maybe $500 into getting someone to clean up the interior and replacing the hood, it would've been showroom ready. She only ever used it for city driving so it was barely used to the extent other Jeeps are (it had maybe 130k miles on it). Instead, she sold it back in 2019, despite my brother begging her to sell it to him so we could keep it in the family. By now the car itself is probably long gone, it went right to auction after and it's probably in a junkyard or modified to all hell by now. But ever since then I've always wanted an XJ for myself. My dream would be to find an XJ that looks exactly like hers (white with the red sport striping on the sides) but as long as it runs I don't care the color.

Then I fly home, get into my 14 year old LX get blown away by the immediate comfort, ride and overall performance difference. @@kevinkoberg4506 the comfort really is next to none. I’ve driven so many vehicles throughout the years and absolutely nothing compares. Recently I drove a 2021 Escalade esv. I really like your tint. I am looking to get my front side windows matched to the OEM rears. Do you recall what percentage you chose for your fronts and what brand/line your tint is from?
@glengoodwin7860
@glengoodwin7860 Месяц назад
I bought the vehicle with the tint already installed. I’m not sure what percent or brand the stuff is , but I do know the windshield is ceramic tint and the side windows are not. I cannot see out of the side windows at night , it’s very frustrating. If it was me , I’d pay the extra $ to go full ceramic tint all the way around for visibility and safety while driving at night.

I have had my XJ for 20 years now. Its a 1999. My recommendation is to get an aftermarket auxiliary transmission cooler. It looks like a mini radiator that attaches to the radiator. It keeps the transmission cooler. I have 398,000 miles on my jeep with the same transmission that shifts perfectly. Suggest also adding Lucas transmission additive for additional protection. Second suggestion is to add 2 leaf springs on the rear suspension. If you put any weight in the back (equipment, people, tools, camping gear, etc) the back will ride low. Adding 2 leaf springs is a cheaper alternative to a full lift kit. Not only is it functional but it makes the jeep look cooler. Also carry some spare fuses and a map of the fuse panel on your phone. I have had a few random fuses blow over the years and having a collection of different size fuses saved my bacon a few times. Watch for mice getting into the air filter box. Its about the size of a shoe box and mice will get in there and make a nest or store acorns for the winter. Finally get a roof rack to store the spare tire so you can free up space in the hatchback.

Hey Glenn, I have a 95 that is just like yours. Bought it new and have maintained it since. 235,000 miles. My question is the heater valve assembly. I'm probably on my 5th one now (the replacement ones were never as good as the original). How do you control the amount of coolant going into the heater core without it? Seems that it would just run hot all the time without it. Am I missing something here?

There’s a flap that covers the heater core ( or something along those lines ) but I’ve never experienced any warm air issues in the summer while running the AC with deleting the HCV.
