Wish we had the dipper over here, very nice images. The G9 was my first m4/3 camera. I liked it, but it had faults. I liked the power switch which allowed one activation. The hair trigger shutter button and battery grip was a royal pain. The focus method (depth from defocus or whatever it was) was not so good. I did capture a number of great images with the camera. I am not a fan boy and will speak out faults of a system even when I own it. For me the BSI sensor 20.2MP of the OM System is better than the 25MP non-BSI of the Panasonic. I take some short videos and would like better focus, but 98% of my work is photography. Sad that other brand of m4/3 lenses don't behave well on the camera bodies. OM System, please give us 4K slow-mo on the OM-1 II.
@@jangarcia1338 The images are cleaner by a stop and a half. The focus and buffer improvements were the big things for me. There are a few other things as well that made me decide. I mostly photograph birds.
Well done and great images. I have had the 150-400 for almost a year now. Still in sticker shock, but no regrets. It is one amazing lens. I am a built person and I can carry it with the OM-1 II easily. I use a monopod when I am stationary and waiting for action, otherwise I walk around without issues. Have used the MC-14 in the past and still great images. Just got the MC-20 and still very impressed with the quality. Having a zoom lens is much more versatile and the close focus distance works great for certain subject. I personally would not trade my setup for a full frame setup. I hear a fair bit of hate and such for the lens. Funny when people are shown an image and very impressed with the image. Then their face changes when they are told that it was taken with m4/3 system and/or the 150-400mm lens. Which lens covering is on the lens?
@@JohnDoe1999-lg7mh thank you! Yes, an absolutt stellar lens :) I find it fun to use with teleconverters, but sharpness does take a hit. I do agree, m43 does get hate only due to their sensor size, which I find unfortunate... cause they do produce excellent gear! Link to camo is in the description.
Awesome video!! Not only the pics, which are stunning, as always, but also the walking and the music! You made me remember the good old times... NYC is amazing for urban and street photography, looking forward to visit it again in future.. and to your next video ;)
I have been a fan of the 60mm OM Macro and like many others I have recognised that it is a lot more than a simple macro lens. My 90mm arrived yesterday and I am blown away. I delayed buying until it was available at less than the list price, but it was probably worth its asking price. I'm sure that by now you will have learnt its abilities.
Amazing images. Retrospectively now having the Olympus 150-400 mmF4.5 how would you compare the image quality to the canon 400 mm F2.8 you used previously. Is the background blur dramatically different? Do you see difference in the sharpness and autofocus for birds in flight? Thanks
Thank you! The 150-400 wins on versatility and weight, and a bit more joy to use. While the 400mm f2.8 with 45mp FF wins on bokeh, image quality, resolution and better Bird AI AF (slightly on stills, and realy good on video). Its not such a good comparison. Two different system with each its own pros and cons. But I love them both, and one should use the equipment one enjoy the most :)
Gorgeous images and video. I am using this lens for almost 2 years and really love it. Hopefully OM System will eventually make a much better camera (unfortunately the OM-1 Mark 2 is not the one with only marginal improvements) to match the video features of G9 Mark 2 and autofocus of recent Canon, Sony and Nikon cameras.
Love your videos and images. I also have the 150-400 mm f4.5 lens for almost 2 years (primarily doing bird photography) and really fall in love with it. This lens is the reason why I am staying with the OM System. I wish we would have a bit better matching camera for this amazing lens. I also have the OM-1 Mark 2 and unfortunately there is minimal improvement in the autofocus (it is mostly improved for stationary birds, but not much for birds in flight with complex backgrounds) and no change in the video features (maybe the autofocus is a bet stickier, but hard to tell since I am not doing too much videos), which is quite disappointing. I wish they would add the video features from G9Mark 2 to this camera.
thank you, yes its an amazing lens, and I agree its now the cameras that are lacking or falling behind. I wish OM would implement 120fps 4k video, and better AF for video as well :)
what beautiful images. What post-processing did you do? Because the photos don't come out of the camera that way. anyway, they are beautiful, video footage and photos. my compliments for that.👍👏
I hate to say it...but a 300mm/4.5 is considered very slow. And since m4/3 CAN NOT make 1/1 camera (many called it "full frame") & then why new owner just doesn't say 300-800/4.5? All m4/3 companies need to stop scamming buyers with small number (1/2#) when it is really double that #.
They dont say it's 300-800 beacause it's not. The "mm" number is a physical element of the lens, not the field of view. Its the distance from the sensor to the centre of the focal point. To say it's a 300-800 would be lying, its 150-400 on a camera with a tighter crop than a comparable full frame. Full frame isn't 1/1, it is not the standard that all photography formats are based off, its only other name is a 35mm and its actually a small format for photography, with medium format 6x7 or 6x9 being much bigger and large format leagues beyond that. If you're using a medium format system as many pros were back in the 90s, the 35mm or "full frame" was the crop camera... If you can't work out the conversion for the lenses you use on your chosen system, thats on you, not on the lens manufacturer.
So Norway... I've stopped watching this video part-way through. Why? Because I'm going to wait for my girl to finish work so we can what it together. She's not a photographer, but she's going to love that 'review' segment early on (we both have great taste☺). Other than that - Lkd & Subd and looking forward to rummaging through your content. All the best from a cabin in a swamp in a rainforest in New Zealand.
Bravo! Loved the review. I have a request, a Sigma from few years back, its called the Sigma FP L. Can you review it please, with the 60-600mm sigma lens. I want to see how it compares to this G9II. It's a selfish request as both cameras are in my buying wish-list 🤓
Nice one, stunning pictures! Recently traded my flagship fullformat mirrorless camera and 500/4 lens for the om-1 mk2 & 300mm f/4. Had it for a week now. First impression is great. Enjoying the smaler size and lighter gear for sure.
The results are amazing! I have the OM1II. It has better autofocus but the difference isn`t huge. P.S.: Wich is better, full format and cropping or mft without cropping?
I'm not an expert on the technical details, but if you have an FF camera with around 60mp sensor, and crop that 2x, you will get a similar comparison to the sensor in OM-1. But the OM-1 also has a stacked sensor. I think the most important thing, is that you have a camera that you enjoy using :)
@10:20 actually I think it is a bit front-focused. Your hand seems to be more in focus than your face. It ended once you have moved out and into the frame...
I have the OM1 with the Mzuiko 100-400 and the G9II with the Pansonic 100-400 Mark 1 and Mark 2. in general,Olympus lenses di not focus as fast on the G9II as Panasonic lenses. Talking of snappy focus. Your 150-400 is an Olympus lens. That may be the reason why the focus does not snap in as fast.
Wondering if you (or anyone else) has come across an issue with the joystick on the G9ii? On a demo unit I had my hands on recently, the joystick definitely moves the focus area/point on the LCD screen but the movement on the screen is particularly slow - especially when moving it up and down... and it's definitely much slower than my current G9! I was thinking perhaps it was a one-off issue but ....??
Yes, joystick moves in small bit when you tap it, but if you hold it, it moves faster. Problem for me is if you hold to long it moves super fast in direction you hold it in. It takes some getting used too. I also have this problem on s5ii.
I preferred the OM 1 still shots here....I enjoy seeing less background blur. While you could close the aperture a bit on the R5 for similar results. I too switched from Canon to OM recently and never regretted the results I get now. The Pro Capture and ibis on the OM is just fantastic for birding. The cost and size is icing on the cake! Great video...Thanks
I do not shoot with MFT, but i also enjoyed the OM-1 pictures more... better storytelling and great quality i have to say. I wouldn´t mind using this combo for pro work. 👍
Very amazing images and Timelapse videos. Looking at your video from my phone, can’t see much the difference between the R6 and OM-1 and OM-5. What do you think? Do you think full frame has an advantage in this type of photography?
Certain full frames definitely have an advantage in this department. But using the right settings and lens on MFT-system helps a lot. As well as the use of denoise programs. By zooming into the image on your computer and pixel-peeping you will see a good difference when it comes to noise between MFT and FF. But I am really happy with the results I get from my OM cameras. That being said, I always have an FF as the main camera for night sky photography.
i have the g9ii and 200 f/2.8 w/1.4x TC. do you have the latest firmware for that relatively old great lens? i also have the new 100-400 Leica Mk2 and think it focuses faster than the 200 f/2.8 (with latest firmware) but haven't run any tests. i was also wondering if you tried different AFC focus modes like zone or Point/spot.
Yep, have the latest fw in camera and lens. Did try different zones and sensitivity functions. There might be some differences, but it doesnt match the speed of the OM1 or other brands in the market. I also had a thought that the new 100-400 will perform better since that one is made for the new af system. But dont have the lens, so have not tested that one :(
Yes, out of the box if you haven’t adjusted any of the auto focus settings, they are set to be slow because I believe they’re optimized for a smoother video transition but if you go to set to set three, that’ll probably give you more of what you want you just have to tell it to focus transition faster. Just look up some videos. There was one by the Little Mix rep talking about that specific issue.
