Hi! My name is Mel and I am a stay-at-home mom living in Vancouver, Canada. I started knitting late 2019 (after many years crocheting) and have been knitting steadily since. As of March 2022, I officially became a stay-at-home mom and it has been wonderful to be home with my daughter.
I consider myself to be an adventurous intermediate knitter and knit items for myself and my daughter. Almost all my knitting has been done while my daughter naps and as she's grown I've had to adapt to her sleep schedule and get creative fitting knitting time in. I hope knitting is something we can do together in the future.
Knitting is a hobby which provides me with relief and relaxation, as well as keeps my brain active creatively and analytically. I love learning new techniques and challenging myself and I look forward to sharing everything I learn along the way.
I hope you enjoy following along my knitting journey!
For the marketplace video I’d love to see your outfit of the day, a short vlog of the event itself and mostly just you talking about what you bought and what you’re gonna make with it😊
Welcome back and congrats on the new home! I remember browsing some dress patterns on Ravelry and saw the one you’re knitting now…but then I saw it’s knit on tiny needles and fingering yarn and said nooope 😅 If you do end up taking videos at Flock I’d be interested in the yarn - what’s the squish factor? How do the colors look? Is it next to skin soft? Etc 🐑
Hi! I’m just down the road in Fort Langley. Congratulations on the house purchase. Thanks for another great podcast. I went to Flock last year but not going this year. I was just in Seattle for a baseball weekend down there. Have a great time!
Hi there ….Just curious what your favourite yarns shops in Vancouver are? I’m from Mission so it would be easy for me to drive to Vancouver and check them out.
Congratulations on the new home. It's always fun to have the space with a little one. Love all your projects. Summers are hard with kids. I keep telling myself it's ok if he's bored at times. I'd be happy to see what you see at Flock since I can't go. Lol. Have fun! Kimberly
ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-kvv2qEmWA6w.html Did you mean this method? Thank you very much to be back. And I wish you all the best with the new house. I always liked your grey wall very very much.
Hello Melissa! Congratulations for this new house ! I really like that beige sleeveless cardigan, it is sooo pretty. Thank you very much for this joyful knitting podcast 😊 Louise
I’m so glad to have you back. Selling and moving house are really stressful times. Enjoy your knitting when you can and don’t apologise when you can’t post. Were here for you when you want to chat knitting 😊🥰
Good luck with your house move- it’s a stressful time and you need to prioritise your wellbeing and family. Hope you enjoy Flock. I just enjoy any content from you so just film what feels right and don’t worry about us 😊
Hi Mel! I’m one of those people who love knitting with small needles. I love the fabric you get and it lets me layer my projects in colder weather. I have bought the Top Sol pattern and am going to knit it with some Italian dk wool I boughton sale. I intend to wear it as a winter vest
So glad you took some time for you, but it’s nice to have you back. Congratulations on the house! Thank you for sharing how valuable you find knitting time in motherhood. Just watched your video, knitting on the porch while my son napped and it was so therapeutic. Knitting has become a big part of my identity since becoming a mother and I wouldn’t have it any other way. Can’t wait to hear of your trip!
Great video and so happy to see you back! Congrats on the big house purchase, very exciting stuff! I have the Melides dress (in olive!) in my Queue but hearing this I might hold off -- sounds like there’s a re-release in the works?
Nice to see you back. Congrats on the new house, very exciting! Your vest claire turned out beautiful. I have only just started mine and highly doubt it will be ready for flock but we'll see. I am currently blocking another summer tank that will probably make it to flock. I have tickets for the rooftop event as well. I'll definitely come say hi.
Okay but I also have no plans for yarn shopping and I have too much already. Does that mean I will not buy much?? We shall see! And I will most definitely help you film!
Like you, I used to detest working with fingering weight and small needles. As an old lady pushing 80, I have some arthritis in my hands and fingers. Surprisingly I find working on lighter weight yarn and tiny needles to be a pleasure. I don't need to grasp the needles much at all and wooden needles are great for my plant fiber yarns. I also have learned to alternate continental and English knitting to be kind to my hands.
Thank you! I could not for the life of me figure out the difference between the Oslo and the Stockholm. Now, my plan is to gage swatch with the yarn and want to use and choose my pattern that way, knowing I can make whatever little modifications I want.
For the Hannah cardigan- maybe embroidering some flowers on it in bright colors that Darci likes will make her want to wear it more? It is absolutely beautiful
Can you explain to me the yolk of the seaside sweater as it is very complicated. Even master knitters couldn't explain this particular pattern to me! Please any help will help if you can explain to me where to put your markers as you start the yolk of this child's sweater. Thank you !
Hi, sorry to hear you're having some issues with your seaside sweater. Unfortunately, I'm unable to offer any recommendations as I neither have a copy of this pattern nor knit it before. If you use Ravelry you could try asking others who have completed this sweater?
Hi! I really enjoy this yarn and the fabric is great too. It's not heavy feeling and has good drape given the gauge I knit. I can wear a sleeveless top underneath and I don't have any irritation.
So helpful!!!! I now know that the October Sweater would be my preference because I like the staggered start. I would have loved a comparison of how the raglan increases are made. I do not care for the kfb increase...
Thank you for this comparison, very helpful. I have the Stripe Hype sweater pattern and I like it so much that I knit it twice. The pattern is very easy to follow, I really like how Veronika Lindberg formats her patterns in a way that you don't get lost and can pick up straight away again. As you implied, this pattern is perfect for either using scraps or yarns of which you have smaller amounts of and don't quite know what to do with them. Highly recommend! In any case, knitting stripes will always be addictive and I feel that striped sweaters knit up in no time :)
yay love that you met another knitter who is Laos! Id love to meet more SE asian knitters too (im cambodian and mexican) and suspect they might be more into crochet. my mom recently said she taught herself how to crochet lace to keep her busy when she was pregnant with me. cool how fiber crafts run in our families and help us connect to our cultures! i loooooove the green of your cardigan!
Loved this! Thank you for sharing your everyday with us all. I have a daughter the same age as Darcy and am currently on mater toy leave with our second. I really struggle justify taking the time to craft, often feeling guilty for knitting 🫠🙄, and haven’t found a way to balance all the domestic bits and bobs. I so agree that it’s vitally important to take the time to take care of yourself and enjoy things that fill your cup! X
Hey Melissa - I just re-watched your presentation on your Haley Genser. Ever since I saw this gorgeous make of yours, I've been smitten. I have gotten ahold of the Sadnes Garn book and actually want to make the one of the cover -- it has some of the cabling of the Haley, but less, and a quarter zip. Anyway, the reason I'm writing is because the patterns are all in Danish, as you know, and I'm wondering how you handled that? Thanks! P.S. As I've continued to watch your channel regularly I've concluded that you knit beautifully. It's as simple as that. you are choose nice patterns and excellent colors for yourself and yarn for your projects. But, truly, you just knit beautifully.
Thank you 😊😊 My copy of the book has two languages, both English and either Danish or Norwegian. All of the English patterns are shown first, then the other language towards the back of the book.
I'm glad to hear about The Knitting Loft, it's located right were I used to live when I was living in North York 😊 I discovered them randomly online as the first Canadian yarn store I came accross. Go Canada Knitters🍁 I love your aesthetic a lot, it always looks store bought, neat and stylish 👍🏾😁✨
