I still have this book! Too bad they had to cut out a lot of the good parts- probably due to budget constraints. I think Gen Zers would really enjoy these Afterschool Specials that attempted to teach kids good ethics. BTW, the story takes place in Manhattan.

I saw this in 7th grade. I often wonder what happened to Nurse Fellows and Timmy when they were sent back, and wonder if they were reunited with Timmy's family/tribe

Teaching kids morals and right from wrong. Showing them how to act in certain social situations.....what a concept. Seems so ancient. It's sadly missed in today's shows for teens.

You say 1984 but the film clearly shows it was made in 1988. MCMLXXXVIII

😮Dear Lovey Hart, After seeing a retrospective on the ridiculously corny Sid & Marty Krofft kids show "Dr. Shrinker," I have become hooked on an actress named Susan Lawrence. I wanted to check out her other roles. Thought I have a general preference towards women with the natural look which she has on the Sid & Marty Krofft freak-fest, she's a little more dolled up in this Afterschool Special, though not gaudily made up, thankfully. My problem is, last night this video came in fine on my cell phone. This morning the color is runny, green, and the picture is crammed together with a line split in the middle, how can I fix this problem? Signed, Bad luck with technology.

My mother was a young adult in the late 70s and early 80s on the Jersey shore. She’d hitch hike all the time. It was the norm back then. Crazy, That we live in a world where we can’t trust that a simple ride somewhere is just that. And not your death. Enter Uber and Lyft! lol. I never forgot walking home from a party across campus. I was alone and albeit I shouldn’t have left alone and walking, but an old 80s car pulled up opened the door and asked if I needed a ride. I never had such a horrible gut feeling in my life and I immediately snapped Adam no and started running. And this was when at the time the other state college had a girl kidnapped and murdered.

I alawys stayed away from any stranger even women as a kid. One woman tried to ask me for directions when i was 9 and my sister was 8 i cried and told my sister to get away from her and the woman told me to relax, i was crying loud then the woman drove off. Now that i think about it what adult asks a little girl for directions? It was most likely a psycho trying to kidnap us

Contrary to what Mr. Ross says towards the end, there really was a national leader of the Wave. It's just that at the time he was too busy bankrupting his casino, cheating contractors, and collecting STDs to really organize his movement. That would have to wait another 30 years!

This was basically a film about my home life. Every night starting before dinner around 6PM my mother would start drinking and wouldn't stop until going to bed around 10. Three to four before dinner drinks, four to six beers at dinner, then four or five after dinner drinks. One little comment would set her off and the scene at 23:25 actually happened once at my house.

And this is how my parents met…. My mom was hitchhiking and my dad thought she was a girl (my mom is really small lol) and he got worried because it was night and it was raining, when she got on his car, he realized she was a woman so they started talking and get along and the rest is history, but yes also this happened to my mom before she met my father 😢

We use to hitchhike as teenagers to get places but we'd carry massive carving knives and sometimes a roasting fork with us just in case (we each had a concealed weapon). We met a couple of dodgey men but apart from that the people who picked us up were absolutely fine and real good sorts

When people are having mental pain it’s disregarded bc it can’t be seen or touched, it’s not tangible so those who have not experienced long term ongoing chronic mental pain and trauma the suffering becomes that of a terminal illness that can’t be cured with meds therapy love or anything else it’s literally terminal and when someone endures such conditions long term and they don’t take their life they often live a very long slow excruciating painful death riddled with true tangible illness such as cancer heart disease and a host of other deadly chronic diseases due to the environmental factor of long term undue extreme mental duress and I do mean extreme, as much as I disagree with people who disagree with suicide because suicide is not selfish suicide is also not an answer to short term problems or highly complex moderately extended term problems either. There are always going to be a certain percentage of people who did make that snap decision to take their life and they would have regretted it had they not done it however there is a certain percentage of people who are terminally mentally ill and they cannot live like this they can’t do it, mental illness causes physical disability, and it’s not that person’s fault does not come down to them choosing to be that way, and I firmly have to believe that the majority of people who are not compassionate to this and who do not empathize with this or sympathize with this, just can’t because they’ve never experienced it themselves or and it’s never been something that has been experienced close enough to their own home that it actually hits them a certain way. I have lost many people to suicide and I have never not once been angry at them for what they have done. I myself have absolutely considered it as an option, but I also chose not to because I wasn’t in the same type of pain or duress that some other people are but had some things not dramatically changed for me and they were things that were beyond my control. It took assistance from another person, and it took a lot of time a lot of love and a lot more patience than the majority of anyone has I mean seriously it took a saint to bring me back from the ledge having known how I felt and having known why I considered it when I considered it and having come out on the other side of choosing not to actually do it, I do not disagree with the fact that some people don’t have any other options and there is no way to find peace and for anybody to not want another person to have peace is utterly selfish and there isn’t an excuse or an explanation for that. This is also why the most series of the series people do not leave signs because they don’t want to be stopped so if you ever encounter a situation where there weren’t even any signs really to see that really solidify inside of your heart and soul that that to think or wish for them to not have chosen suicide to find peace that they now have attained they are resting in peace , is a sin on behalf of oneself because you’re wishing for them to continue to endure, ongoing suffering and pain that nobody wants to willfully do. Just know that if it was a surprise that needed to happen and there wasn’t anything that could’ve changed it or could’ve stopped they could not be helped and it wouldn’t have been right to even stop them because they deserve to find peace everybody deserves to find peace. Anytime I think that I catch myself wishing that my loved ones were still here, I immediately catch myself and I don’t get sad and I don’t cry because I remember to myself. No they can’t be here. They could not have continued to live the way that they were living. I wouldn’t want them to be here in that state and that’s the only state that they were in that’s the only state that they could be in, so if that’s the only state that they could be in, then I’m happy that they have found peace, and I’m at peace with their choice to choose to do suicide to find it.

On a smaller scale, it makes me think of cliquishness among teenages girls I once knew on a military base. Presumably, the school's Queen bee had a father whose rank was higher than that of other students' parents, and reporting her consistantly cruel behavior would have jeopardized the military careers of her victims' parents. So many students were driven to profound levels of despair due to her smear campaigns and physical mistreatment, often with the help of her toadies. The only reason it ended was because her family was transfered. She left the school crying on her last day . I didn't see what happened. But it is assumed that her schoolmates and the faculty finally let her have it. Just for the record, she had a German surname, and decades after World War II ended ,the US military still had its fair share of people like her who had that Nazi mentality.

I’m really glad that these afterschool programs are available I found like the whole series and now I want my kids to watch all of them. There’s nothing out here now that’s new and modern that addresses the real things that are real issues. All of our awareness videos and afterschool specials are about stupid, unbelievably ridiculous inappropriate shit such as sex change operations on elementary school kids like that’s what we’re teaching our kids nowadays we’re not teaching them not to get in cars with strangers. We’re teaching them to cut their penises off if they feel a little bit not right during puberty about who they are if they question who they might be while they’re growing up and developing now the solution that we teach them is to have a sex change operation and ruin their life. The things that are available now are disgusting issues that are brought to our children’s attention are absolutely unequivocally useless. They are not core lessons for safety or success. They are absolutely useless guidance that the kids are receiving nowadays from society all over they’re being guided that if they don’t like something, then they don’t have to deal with something they’ve been guided that if they feel a little bit, not quite right about something it’s time to do drugs because well they can’t cope with anything, if they question who they are, they’re going through puberty, well now they’re told don’t listen to your parents confide in strangers and will help you get a sex operation and will give you hormones behind your back that ruin your life and completely change your system and stop your puberty process ruin you as a person for the rest of your life and your parents try to intervene and don’t worry we’re gonna have them locked up by the authorities. Nothing’s gonna stop you from getting your little crybaby way that we’ve misinformed you about. I can’t wait for President Trump to get back in office, maybe he’ll bring back some after school specials type values for our youth

In the late ‘80s, I picked up a really skeevy guy and his “girlfriend”. I got them where they were going without incident, but I second-guessed myself endlessly for my poor judgment. About eight months later, I was being harassed by an aggressive guy on my college campus. From out of nowhere, another man came to my rescue and ran the dude off. My hero was the guy I’d picked up eight months earlier! True story.

Our family lived for a year in campus housing while my Dad was getting his doctorate, compliments of Uncle Sam! Of course, my parents were already married with five of us kids! Mom got a job on campus, and there was a campus school for education majors, so it worked out perfectly. Jimmy, in Jr. High, was in a military prep boarding school.
