We are two racing sailors that decided to go cruising. We sold it all, bought a sailboat, re-fit it ourselves for offshore sailing, and took off into the ocean with the goal of sailing around the world via the capes. Yes, the hard way!
A sailing couple from the fresh water of the Great Lakes, Kate is a middle school Spanish teacher and Curtis is an Entrepreneur. Together we have lots of sailboat racing experience, but cruising presented a new challenge with lots to learn. We are learning lots, from anchoring, to fishing, to off-the-grid systems, and even diving into the underwater world of freediving and scuba diving.
We watched the sailing RU-vid channels like Delos, Sailing La Vagabonde, Tula’s Endless Summer, and Gone With the Wynn’s before leaving and like them wanted to share our sailing and diving adventures with you. Paying it forward with our own vlog. We would love for you to follow along as we visit new places, experience new cultures, and challenge ourselves.
Experience is everything. It showed through in your precision teamwork and planning. I'd have had that staysail down earlier but I'm a chicken. 15 knots otg ! Awesome stuff. That was 30 mins of pure adrenaline. Thank you for sharing it !
i learned on those machines - good memories good video, i wonder if there was enough room to make the sliding peace inside the vang, little longer for more stability.
Orange dust in the Clouds??? Seems a BIT SUSPICIOUS to me with all the Weather Manipulating Warfare humanity gets shoved down our Throats in 2024 now!! As NIAVE as the two of you are, when you Look up into the sky with military aircraft SEEDING the Clouds, you CANNOT Believe that this is Truly red Sand Coming from the Sky?? I say no more you both need to OPEN YOUR EYES and AWARENESS as to your government OWNING the Weather!!! NOTHING Is NATURAL Anymore when it comes to your United States government Owning the Weather! You Both ARE Living a complete LIE about your Weather!
Wow guys, great job! Congrats on the passage, that’s one scary ride down there, but you breezed thru it! So impressed. I really want to learn how to sail so this doesn’t scare me to death just to watch. 👍
Sailing around Cape Horn? You must have nerves of steel... or should I say, a certain part of you made of titanium! Truly impressive! This is hands down the best boat video I've ever seen.
Could have been catastrophic rudder failure surfing 12+ Knts. It looks like J yachts wisely has a watertight bulkhead seperating the rudder post and lazarette from the main compartment? Still. Glad you're OK. Its enough to make one consider a full keel rust bucket.
No preserver on Roxy on paddle board - no bueno. Also you guys are th first cruisers who didn't rip American Samoa a new one. Muddy bottom where they dump old car and boats. Hard to get a secure hook in. Not to mention loud power plant and smelly Starkist Tuna factory.
Appreciate your concern for Roxy, but we are within swimming distance to shore and the weather is quite calm. Also, they did not dump old cars into the bay, a devestating tsunami hit American Samoa back in 2009 taking out everything on the roads and damaging houses and businesses. Addionally, it took a little to get the hook set, but we've held perfectly fine with gusts well into the 30s. Finally, the majority of the time, it smells like ocean and/or rainforest. If you choose to only see the negative, that will certainly be your experience. I suppose the other cruisers you're refering to forgot to stop and smell the flowers! Certainly there is no "perfect place" any where in the wolrd, and some may be better than others, but it all comes down to perspective. Hope that helps :)
@@SailingSweetRuca Yes, that's true - regarding perspective - and I'm referring to the latest vlog of WeSail - and in that vlog, they DID say that the next one they will explore the other part of American Samoa and that hopefully it would be a salvation. I know that if I were a sailor, tho, from what I had seen of that island, if I were a cruiser I'd only stop there in an absolute emergency. Safe travels, you 3 - XO - Dar
I'm impressed by this racy couple going where the wind blows and then doing culture and quoting Proust. There was no prejudice, but now there's a nice surprise.
Как я люблю наши русские яхты. Высокий кокпит, всё закрыто, тепло внутри, хоть на север хоть на юг, пофиг... А тут брызги в лицо мокнешь меизнешь, но за то яхтсмен!)
in 1976 General Pinochet started his project of building the carretera Presidente Augusto Pinochet or carretera austral highway along the country and connect the nation , he offered to the local people and the rest of Chileans 1 hectare of land for 1 Chilean peso to built settlements in the area , it made national news but not many Chileans took the offer
You may want to consider attaching the larger diameter tube to the boom, with the smaller (plunger) end to the deck. This will limit saltwater intrusion into the tube, accumulating and corroding the aluminum. When I had a Garhauer Vang on my boat in Pentwater MI, it was installed with the tube down. The water froze and bent the vang. Garhauer indicated it was a common mistake.
Not any different than 85% of the world that we've visited and certainly not at all different from any island we visited in French Polynesia. So I'd say, not prolific from our perspective.
