You showed very little. In fact, that lint goes way deeper than the bobbin assembly. Use tweezers, then vacuum, then blow it out. Blow out whole base, as lint hides in the middle. You never showed us how too oil this either. Misleading title.
Oh my friend, you are absolutely right about the title. It's been so long ago that I made this that I must have forgotten that I was going to add to it. I hope you found the information that was there useful and I hope you have a lovely day! Happy sewing!
Thanks! This helped me. So, the hole in the arm that sticks out at the 2-o'clock position @0:50 is just there to trick us! 🤣 😥 Running the thread through it doe not work!
Thanks for the video, very helpful! FYI - On my wife's older Bernina 717, the part @2:07 is clearly not supposed to have the thread behind it, but in front. In fact, on the 717, you can't get the thread behind it, and it is used as a curved, smooth surface for the thread to ride over.
If I sign up for this class how long do I have access to the videos? I thought on one of your videos you mentioned forever and on the site it says one year.
I technically say one year because I’ve paid for the platform for the next year and haven’t died. 😂 in reality, as long as I’m still teaching you have access. I’d love to see you there. workshops.lyrickinard.com/
There is a lot of information on here concerning these machines, but I have a problem. My needle thread is wrapping itself around the bobbin holder and the whole thing is jamming up and I cannot find how to correct this any help please
I love Sue’s book The Sketchbook Challenge. It’s exactly what happens to me, I stare at a clean art paper, and forget all of my creative ideas instantly. 😊
Thank you your video was very helpful I have a Bernina 931 brilliant vintage machine bought it for $15.00 at a secondhand shop in West Akld what a bargain!
Great video about oiling and not using canned air! I didn’t understand how to put the bobbin casing back. It just kept falling out and didn’t seem to fit. I found someone else’s video from Australia who showed up close exactly how it fits in there. It’s not just haphazard. There are parts on both sides that have to connect. The easiest way I have found is (1) tilt the machine back just a bit and put something about an ich or so tall under it so you can see what you’re doing and (2);shine a good light on it. (2) turn the flywheel until you get a half moon at the bottom and then hold the casing so you see the three holes at the top. If you line up the narrow finger-like protrusion on the right with where it should sit above the jagged looking part on the right side of the half moon on the bottom then the left side will be correct too. When you let go it should just stay by itself but there is no clicking in place. Then close the door and make sure that clicks closed. I hope this helps someone as frustrated as I was putting it back together.
Lots of great information here. Thank you to those of you who talked to your audience rather than reading a script. Spending too many years in corporate presentations and experience as a professional speaker, I value the connection of talking rather than reading.
Hi Lyric, You had me at the intro! I love your sense of fun and whimsy. I also love the reading nook where you can be up in the trees and get cozy with your books. One more thing, I love the caricature of you. Did you do it? It's perfect!
Very helpful. Is there a video on lubricating the top of the 930 Bernina. I have the manual that shows were to oil, unfortunately the picture is dark and I can’t see where to oil it.
@@LyricMontgomeryKinard I had found manual online and realized that the manual doesn’t show where to oil on top when top cover is removed. When I purchased my Bernina 930 in the early 1980’s, they put an extra page inside my manual that showed the places to oil. But that copy was dark and not easy to see where it indicated. Perhaps I am not supposed to try to oil it. My tension was off, following your instructions about cleaning, oiling, and new needle helped a lot.
@@pamgross1084 TBH I usually just take the top off every once in a while, make sure everything is clean, and put a drop of oil pretty much anyplace that moves. These machines are beasts so it would be hard to mess anything up.
The majority of the time the hole in the bobbin casing bar is ignored. I've only ever used it when using very thick thread that won't fit into the casing slot. That was once in 30 years - so I wouldn't really worry about it.
Hello Tina - I'm so sorry for your loss. This machine is one of the best out there so I hope it brings many happy memories of your mother. I usually search "Bernina 930 bobbins" on Ebay and they aren't hard to find. They don't have to be vintage. This machine is actually pretty tough. You can turn the screw on the bobbin case to change the tension and turn it back if it doesn't work. It's way less finicky than computerized machines are.
My mom passed last year and my sister in law was upset that I was getting my mothers machine. It was a brother computerized and rather than cause animosity i gave it to her. Now my daughter in loves grandmother is gifting me her machine just like this one. I haven’t gotten the machine yet but since her grandmother hasn’t sewn in so long I wanted to make sure I got it cleaned and oiled! Thank you for your video. I will go to our local sewing machine sales location and purchase the proper oil. Any particular brand you use?
