Many newer computers have great built-in cameras since video conferencing is so widespread now. If you have an older computer, you might be amazed at the difference an external webcam can make in the quality of your broadcast. And we promise, as a virtual teacher it feels great to look good!
It's not an absolute requirement to have a webcam. I used my Apple desktop computer's built-in camera for several years as my default for talking "face to face" via zoom. There really were no issues. I thought I would try out a webcam simply to see how it worked.
The Logitech Brio is a very well regarded and highly rated webcam and is super easy to use straight out of the box! It had been recommended by so many other virtual teachers that I didn't really look elsewhere.
I plugged mine in, set it up, and it was ready to go! In a Zoom meeting I clicked the little up arrow next to the video icon in the control bar and there it was. When I clicked the Logitech as a camera source I was completely amazed at how much better my video quality was. I didn't change any of my lighting at all, but suddenly I was brightly lit, and you could see a much wider angle of my background. My skin even looked clearer - who knew?
