anyone else have a sigh of relief once he finally clipped his mic to his sweater? lol oh its just me? ok... Any who! I always wanted a half cage for my GH5. The only time I saw a half cage offered was when you had the GH5 rigged with the battery grip... No longer a GH5 owner but man did I love that camera.... Mini C100 lol
Love this technique. I used it for a dance idea. Shot a frame with a blank background of the city at night and then dragged a soccer goal post, hung myself up with a hunting harness (it hurt my manhood) then did a floating dance animation type idea. Friends asked how I did it but I never told them lol.
Hah, just as you started with the Super Glue, I was saying, "No! For a structural adhesive for metal you should be using epoxy, like JB Weld." I was about to type that in as a comment when there you went. For work like this, it's worth looking into the various types of epoxies. The Double Bubble series of epoxies is available from many places in small amounts, with different formulations tailored to different applications (e.g., machineable, high peel strength, etc.). Cool build; thanks for sharing this. -Tom
Very cool to see someone doing some actual mods to get their rig how they want, not just assembling off-the-shelf parts and accepting the shortcomings. Right now I'm finishing up some work to my S5IIX setup, I turned my drill press into a half-ass mill to get my rod baseplate to the profile I wanted, and rigged a quick-release counterweight to help smooth the jiggles when shooting fisheye. Next up is some DIY Trekpak dividers for my Peli case to give it a snug little home to live in.

You of course can weld aluminium! If you find a workshop then they can also add some reinforcement to minimise any sort of bend. But to be frank this is one of the more sketchy DIY rigs. :D
I'm hurt.. You said this is just for your GH5 not like the camera you use for client work ...The GH5 is my client camera 😊. One day I'll be able to afford better. Cheers.
I had the GH5 for several years - and a G9 as my B-cam - but now I have the GH5s and the GH5ii for Video (each with their own Ninja V) The GH5s lives on a gimbal and the GH5ii on sticks (whilst also in a cage for easy carriage plus the option to swap to a bit of hand held. And lo, there was peace in the Valley!
It´s so much fun watching you trying to get the cage where you want it. I own a S5ii, a G9 and a gx85 and with the S5 bein my main cam for RU-vid. As much as the S5 is superior to both cams, I just love filming everything with family and friends with the gx85. It´s not about it´s technicality, it´s about this inspiring little package with all it´s limitations making a perfect image (beside the quality being great anyway) second place behind just capturing memories. I thought about getting myself a GH5 just for the vibe, but owning a G9 and S5 I think it´s not close being neccessary. I enjoy both of your channels very much! Thanks for the inspiration!
Hello. There are inexpensive Chinese collapsible cages. Just unscrew a couple of screws and the cage will turn into a half-cage. Although the cast monolith, of course, looks more reliable.
Have you ever tried the OG bmpcc speedbooster by metabones? The 0.58x one. I have tried it on a couple M4/3 cameras and it only fits on a couple, I'm intrigued if it fits on the gh5!
Yeah when I had the GH3 I used that speed booster on it and as long as I made shure the electronic shutter was on, it worked fine. I haven't tried that version of the speed booster in years though so I'm not sure if its the same on the GH5
Lovely hiking footage, nice diffusion filter tips, thanks. The kit 12-60 is great value, makes me reconsider any of the 2.8 zooms. In EU the G85 is a G80 with 30 minute recording limit, same for the G9 and G100, which makes the G90 (G95) or GH5 the next unlimited option in that price range and the only PDAF contender is the E-M1 II. That made me consider something like the ZV-1 (ouch) as a video body instead. Not sure about that though, need to do more G80 CDAF video tests, hopefully it's sort of good enough in real world usage as I'd really prefer to keep everything MFT/M43 only.
Nice, I made the cut off! Thanks for such a meaty answer. I absolutely understand all your points and you're right, wedding filmmaking is a lot of stress for (sometimes) not a big pay off. Great ep!
Very informative video. Thanks for making it. Something that is not often mentioned re focus of Lumix cameras is that the AF/AE LOCK button can be programmed to force the camera to focus quickly both in autofocus and manual focus mode. I've only heard it mentioned once on RU-vid but for me its a game changer for these cameras. 👌
Loved the episode, great content creators both of you! 😊 But did anyone count how many times the filler word "like" was said in this podcast episode? 😅
