My channel is where you will learn how to get the most from your Eurorack modular gear.
I am an electronic musician and producer who wants to help you learn to unlock your creativity through music. My goal is to create videos and tutorials that inspire and bring joy to people. I explore different forms of synthesis, explain how to get the most from your gear, and give you examples of my music which I make using synthesizers, Eurorack modular., guitar pedals and MIDI controllers.
Subscribe now to keep up to date with new tutorials and top tips!
Wish the demo didn’t have the digitakt as that is obviously gonna be guided by the interface and midi you have already setup. I’m stuck on getting my pic to directly trigger my JU-06 boutique
Strongly recommend Pipe to anyone who wants to use Oxi with modular gear. Not only it is convenient to have a breakout module in the rack, but also, now your CV and gate outs on Oxi are unbuffered mults, and we all know that especially gates are almost always going into mult before sending them to envelopes and various other stuff.
Hello there, ive just started my O&C Rabbit hole so thanks for the videos! Ive been trying to research elsewhere but can find an answer so thought id bother you! Sorry. I followed your procedure, Mac, teensy, data wire, back of module, Botton, power etc but now the O&C doesn't power on at all. Any recommendations. Thanks again.
Hmm, so when you connect the USB cable the O_C doesn't power on? Some builds of O_C require power from the modular case so the Teensy will boot up. Is that the issue?
@@SynthDad Thanks for getting back! No, now the unit doesn't power on in the case or connected. I fear its bricked but I don't know how that could happen! Love your content BTW! thanks
Excellent tutorial I keep referring back to whenever I’m stuck. One question on clocks I can’t seem to figure out. I want to send Pam’s to TR1 input, and “clock forward” to TR3 input. And I want the clock on TR3 to be 4x faster than the Pam’s clock coming into TR1. I tried putting x1 above TR1 in the first channel, and then x4 above the third slot (which has been switched to TR1 for clock forwarding to that channel). But both channels are being triggered at the same Pams rate.
Wow! When you pressed GATE 3 to reset the Play function of Enigma, it was like watching the behind the scenes of Wonka (Charlie & The Chocolate Factory/ Willy Wonka & The Chocolate Factory) because I am beginning to recognize that Enigma & Enigma JR allow artists to play modules with a grand scheme ready to be played. Much of the rest, is over my head but I am interested in learning what it does exactly. Two years ago is a little long maybe too long. Thank you, have a great Jesus blessed day SynthDad.
It is so unfortunate these digital module manufacturers insist on adding unessasary features. There is no need for all that fluff (lfo's, envelopes, modulation matrix, etc). Just give me a proper, quaity io and a simple way to interact with the dsp of that module. Why complicate things? If tou can add more code, add things useful to the oscillators or offer a better screen more appropriate to the middle aged guys that can actually afford going modular.
Luckily everything that you can modulate can also be controlled via CV or MIDI CC. But this is a complex and powerful digital oscillator, it may not be your cup of tea if you're looking for something less complex.
@@SynthDad It depends on your definition of complex. Having onboard modulation, doesn't make it complex, it just makes it crowded. My critique is on what i'd consider unessasary features. This module, as every eurorack module, is supposed to be integrated in a larger system. They shouldn't be afraid of that. Instead this is prepared to "live on an island". Imagine if every analogue oscillator came with tho hardwired lfo's for vibrato and tremolo and a couple of envelopes. What would the point of that be? I just say embrace the format.
What are the dimensions for those paper pieces, like a cm or two per each? I guess i could just cut to fit... I wish there were an mx12 overlay out there. Oversynth makes lots but i hadn't seen it on their list. I'm not sure if stereoping would make one. I already emailed faderfox and unfortunately they do not make an mx12 overlay.
I like both and have both in my setup. Zadar is great if you want to select from a library of pre-defined envelope shapes (which you can CV modulate). Piqued gives you more control over each envelope stage.
Is it possible to route one set of messages only to MIDI out 1 and another to MIDI out 2? For example, I have 16 channels in the mixer and I dont want to effect my synth at the same time, if mx12 is sending messages out to both output at the same time
@@SynthDadTnx. So how do you deal with faders being in different positions after set up changes? Let's say you were controlling your mixer and said the fad way then you said change setup to control something else, but now the faders are in different positions and so you don't know what they were before
@@StaavAutumn Ah this is a tricky issue that depends a lot on your gear being controlled. The Faderfox will read MIDI messages from a synth if it is able to transmit the current value for a parameter, and then you need to "catch" the new value by moving the slider. But that requires your synth to send any changes to parameters so that controllers can update themselves. Not all synths do that!
Hello from another Synth head (from Ireland 🇮🇪) But living and recording in Germany 🇩🇪 I kinda guessed that’s what the Step Seq on the Wavestate was for (Exactly the same principle as the DeepMind12) But checked out your great video just to make sure I wasn’t missing anything.. Really like your Video style.. New Sub here 👍🏼🇮🇪🔉🎶
I found this video a lot easier to understand and helpful after diving deeper into the manual and having used the Oxi One for a bit. As a total noob watching it the first time, it was too fast for me. Now, it's helping me see new things and reinforce what I've been learning.
Love this module! I am only able to trigger over midi, does it do gate for holding notes longer on some of the algorithms offered? Am sequencing via Oxi One and can't seem to get it working...
it definitely is possible via midi, I do it all the time but it depends on the algo...kick, fm, universal etc work fine - you gotta tweak decay and hold accordingly!
Hi SynthDad i've just watched Oxi Instruments tutorial for absolute beginner and it shows 2 synths connected to the Oxi One via the Oxi split midi splitter with designated outputs 1 and 2 meaning that the 2 synths can be triggered independently of each other.I have a 7 way midi splitter - will i be able to use that and get the same result please ? Thanks for the support videos.
You're quickly becoming my go to resource, especially for o_c stuff, which I'm very new to. One quick question you may be able to answer - Pigeons bottoms out on me when modulating CV. The. first two sets of numbers eventually end up as 0+0, thus playing one note. I am attenuating the CV so the range is pretty small.
This does happen I've seen. You need to go in and manually bump one of the inputs to get it moving again. It's an issue with a low range as the modular arithmetic wraps around eventually
Ive just picked up o_c initially because I was looking for a quantiser and felt that quantermaine was as good an option as any. I've since fallen down the alternative firmware rabbit hole and finding the whole thing a bit overwhelming. So with Phazerville, you get all of the classic u_c apps plusna bunch of new ones with the dual app UI? What are the other apps you get with Phazerville as standard?
Yes with Phazerville it's all the standard apps (and you can choose which ones you want) and the dual-hemisphere applets. The list of apps are listed on the Phazerville website
@@SynthDad@SynthDad I'm not really attracted to music heavily drenched in copious amounts of delay and reverb. I get that it's fun and somehow therapeutic to create. But it's too easy. When I was in art class in high school, every failed clay project became an "ashtray." If you were trying to create a cat sculpture and it exploded in the kiln, you made an ashtray. I see ambient music as the ashtray of electronic music. Processing a piece of source material with effects until it's completely unrecognizable doesn't take much craft. Or maybe I just haven't heard enough of the good stuff (Sturgeon's law). But I do appreciate Bastl's design and engineering!
Fantastic video, as most of your videos are! Extremely helpful and well done! My thyme arrives soon and I’m excited as the original was one of my favourite delays ever!
Bonjour! Unfortunately I'll have to answer you in English as my French is not that good. A couple of things to check on the MIDI; teh FIRE takes MIDI TRS-B so make sure your MIDI device sends as a TRS-B connector. If not you'll have to buy a converter cable or adapter. Also it listens on MIDI channel 10 so make sure you've set to that channel. Finally each note is on the same channel starting at MIDI note 36 (typically C1). This is what you need to send to trigger each drum voice. Hope that helps - bon chance!
Thanks a lot !!! I'm doing a translation too!!!! Connections are good with the right connectors. My Korg has 16 midi channels. 1 for 1 and two for two etc. Usually it is recognized directly...I'm not sure I understand this 36 c note thing..... Thank you, it's been very frustrating for me for several days......
