i watched 2 Bull Curry matches this week. The first one was an edited card from 1942. He had been wrestling for 3 years by then. The other one was from Lou Thesz Tennessee promotion in 1976.
I thought the mispronunciation of Blassie’s name was because an AI voice was used, but this video dates from 2008! PS - I used to see Blassie in action at the Olympic Auditorium in LA circa 1970 or so. He was used as both face and heel, but he was way better as a heel.
Announcer Dan Coates: Referee Marvin Jones is doing a great job controlling the situation. HA ! Around 1966, a photo circulated of Fritz applying the Iron Claw to Joe Blanchard, blood streaming from Joe's forehead. It was nightmarish.... to anyone who did not understand their fantastic theatrics. Great wrestling times, those!
This is as much a heel match from the 'great' Lou Thesz as from Buddy Rodgers! Interesting that since many of the southern NWA titleholders avoided the heavy-laden talent of the northeast, when Thesz was made the champ this began the origins of the WWWF territory from the Capitol Corporation out of D. C., mainly because Thesz would only defend the belt in the south and western organizations. So they made Rodgers their champion and soon, as he was supposedly injured and not drawing well, the title went to Bruno - a great choice considering his long term popularity there and also all over the country. Later they reinstated themselves in the NWA, but McMahon Jr. planned to control the other territories and dropped out for good. Point being, it's a shame not to of defended the NWA belt at least as much in the northeast as other traditional regions; and so the AWA with Gagne did much the same thing.
He was a poor sportsman! He went after thereferee who he has no business touching! The State should have suspended hislicense! Even George starts following after he sees the poor attitude Eagle displayed! Oh, and I prokoted Chicago so I know!
I love the "liberties" that Kowalski takes on this guy from 3:40 to about 3:58...Bet Kowalski was "tinglin" from the doninant alpha-feeling of inconspicuously wrestling his manhood into this guys face
Was there ever a match when Gorgeous George was cheered by the fans?I could have seen that happen if he had been up against some anti American foreign heel.
