A few months ago I went to a Volvo dealer for a test drive in a MY2022 V90, the first time I'd driven one... I knew it had lower boot capacity than the V70 / XC70 but I was struck by just how much smaller it was. The dealer admitted that Volvo had asked dealers *not* to describe them as an "estate" but as a "lifestyle vehicle". Up front it also felt somewhat "claustrophobic", even with the driver's seat pushed fully back. On the other hand, rear legroom is noticeably better than the earlier cars. I gather that with the V90 you have to contend with the AdBlue snake-oil nonsense and consequent shrinking of the fuel tank. And I guess that means nowhere to keep a spare wheel? It was a D5 "PowerPulse" version but it was surprisingly sluggish off the mark - in fact I wondered there was something wrong with the turbo, though there were no warning lights illuminated. I didn't really get on with the touchscreen - I felt it was too "busy". Doubtless I would have got used to it after a while, though. So did I buy it? Nope - a few weeks later I went to to an independent Volvo specialist where I purchased a good old XC70. Interestingly the sales chap there said they were struggling to sell V90s but had no problem at all shifting V70s and XC70s. The V90 is a nice car, in fairness, but if you are looking for a straightforward, practical, highly competent load-lugger and you're not bothered about the latest high-tech and pin-sharp handling, for me either a V70/XC70 or a Merc E-Class estate is a better proposition overall.
I manually cleaned the EGR valve the other day had smoke on hard exel and did a regen she worked fine till the other day! Had a long trip on the M40. I had a good 2-hour trip with Wheight and as we made it the car went in to limp mood and had to drive home in that mood now stuck in limp mood (2900 RPM) i had the regen time there and had Black smoke i have read the dpf on car cleaner and now thinking of that will it help to clean my dpf? if not will i need to get a dpf replace or is there still hope?
Thanks for this topic. My V70, D2 2014 covered 102,000 then auto gearbox played up. I am so angry with Volvo, who say that the box doesn't need an oil change, so main dealer did not have it on their schedule. Oil change did not cure it, so a flush was performed. Now seems OK, but has cost over £600. OWNERS BEWARE.
Hey guys. I’m trying to understand what I can do to maintain my new second hand car. It’s a 120d 1 series. F20 2016. It looks like it’s been serviced regularly and passed mots. Luckily I do drive 46 miles to work but definitely drive in the city a lot too. Many short journeys. I want to avoid any headaches. Advice on what to look at?😊
Understood all that thanks, just to confirm the glow plugs are only there to start the motor, once started they are not in use, why then will the motor lose power once running and fuel usage increase?
They really don't build cars like they used too. I had an 09 reg mondeo, a 12 reg golf estate and have just a couple months ago replaced them with a 53 reg Saab 9-5 HOT Aero. The difference in quality, ride, and just general drivability was amazing. Mine does about 25 to the gallon average on my 20 odd mile A-road commute and also costs £415/year to tax but it's so worth it. If you look after these older cars, they look after you.
136k miles on 2014 glk250. I just love that vehicle and drive in preference to 2022 Cayenne. 36mpg city/hwy, up to 40 in the mountains. Oil changes every 10k since new.
Great video:-) I just love Volvo, I never been disapointed with any of the Volvos I had been driving the last 30 years, from the Volvo 240.740,940. And V70 1999, and my Great perfomance car Volvo V70 T5 250 bhp, that car is a missile, 5 years driving no issues at all. And now I drive a 2004 Volvo S80 D5 163 bhp, and the tork it deliver is just amazing. Actually I think thats my best Volvo ever i owned. This diesel turbo engines are so strong and reliable and the sound waaaw. Yess I am a Volvo fanatic. I just love these cars., I live in Norway and in the winter time this car is just deliver what it promise, drive with no problem at all even in 25 degree C minus:-)
Last December I bought a 2006 P2 V70 D5 163 HP Kinetic (basic finishing) manual gear box with 300 000 km, now 311 000. Very good condition overall considering an 18 years old car, no rust, no oil split, everything working under the hood and inside the car... I serviced the timing belt + oil change, the engine runs smoothly and economically for such a big station wagon - 6.6 l/100 km - love the sound, love the torque, love the simplicity of the controls for all radio and AC with hard buttons, rotators and levers ( and not these shitty touch-screen interfaces of modern cars ) love the general comfort of that car, especially while my son was driving and myself in the passenger seat, as it is of course less aged than the driver's one. Seeing what others are saying and demonstrating with their owns, I'm confident I can drive this car for many years to come. A wise buying decision for a wise car.
Hi, I just bought a 2013 XC70 Premier Plus and it’s missing some things that I feel like it should have. Are these all extra packages: Folding mirrors BLIS I have the PCC remote but no remote start.
Many of the features of the 5 series Touring were ported over to the Rover 75 Tourer as it was developed under BMW ownership although released BMW had divested the company. The split tailgate is the same, as is the tonneau cover although of course the shape is different. I wonder if your seats fold flat like my Rover ones do as the rear seats are different to the saloon version? The gear knob is identical & many 75 owners swap them over to get the wood gear knob off a BMW, the tang must be swapped as they are different lengths. I also recognise the electronics, many BMW radios can be swapped directly into the Rovers & the Highline units were identical with only a logo change. I still see a fair number of E39’s on the road & a couple of Touring’s regularly driving around in my area, along with the E38 they are my favourite BMW’s. I always liked the light green with Montana green leather seats Touring petrol that Geoff Buys Cars reviewed some years ago. Sadly he moved it straight on.
MAF sensors should not be cleaned with any form of cleaner, electrical contact, or special MAF cleaner it can damage the hot wire inside, compressed air is best, but if it is failing in the end if will and needs to be replace.
i got the 118d e87 105kw with like 245tkm and he runs like a beast. Its a proper proper engine if you maintain it regularly (like everything else in life). I replaced my chain on time and i had some sensor/termostat issues in the past but the engine works really fine
Yes. The modern headunit brings the E39 right up to date except for the transmission. An eight speed automatic or six speed manual short shift kit will bring it right up to date. Maintenance is key. Most new owners of a 22 year old e39 don't even know how to set the a.c. properly. Older owners just accept that leaving the sunroof and windows closed is a fact of BMW life.
I have Volvo V70. 2011. I got the problem when the check light of fuel is on. After resettint the issues it shows error 188, then later changed to 097 then 185 then again 097. I took the car to mechanic. He just cleared the errors and told me thet try to use DPF cleaner 2 to 3 times and if the problem is still there then u need to change the whole DPF. Can anyone guide me about this
A bit cheaper than you , I'm older, so insurance is just £ 100 for two of us .. and the tyres I have put the roadster wheels on so there a lot cheaper.. the sump I put an aftermarket one on off ebay with a drain plug so sevice is easy at any garage but it's easy enough to do it myself , so same really ... and yes it's a bloody good car. I do most of my journeys in it as it's so cheap... had it nearly 20 years now. I love the thing 😊
Thanks for the video. Would you be kind enough to share with me the part number for the transmission control module. I've been looking for it for months. Thanks
Looking at your speedo, your speed was sensible in the heavy rain. Clearly the other vehicles had the must get in front attitude - very poor of them in this weather.
