So got me a xb12x. Replaced voltage regulator because blowing headlight bulbs. The seat cracked harness connector to ecm. Moved the ecm between fuse box and battery. Still same cracked ecm. But since moving ecm it hasn't stalled from crack on ecm. The seat used to kill the fuel pump from pressing on ecm. You get a mustang fuel pump from auto parts store and put in the buell fuel pump assembly. It also can use mustang injectors. Dorman makes actuators for intake and exhaust. Mine likes to run above 3000 rpm and does run smooth. Below 2700 rpm it will rattle you teeth.

My xb12x the seat cracked the harness connector on my ecm. It still works but if pressure applied it kills the fuel pump. I moved the ecm between fuse box and battery. Did have to replace voltage regulator because blowing headlight bulbs. What part can't you find? Most Harley dealers don't work on bikes older than 10 years anyways. The fuel pump is same as a mustang. Bill Melvin new owner of Buell owns the rights. Mine handles great above 17 mph. But I am in sport riding position not super sport position. And have handle bars not clip ons.

I wouldn't call it a super bike. It's not fast but not slow. I hate the rear brake on my xb12x when stopping on steep hills. Front brake works way better than most think. Haven't had trouble finding parts. Almost 30 k on it.

I have put 80K miles on mine with regular scheduled maintenance. Still with original fuel pump also. Have had it since new with absolutely no issues whatsoever. Runs as good as new. Many parts can be cross referenced (like oil filters, injectors, fuel pump, sensors, ect)and purchased regularly at most auto parts stores. It is even pretty easy to get a reference list of parts on line from others that have already done the leg work. They handle better than 90% of bikes on the road. Expert level for sure but phenomenal none the less, with no need for a damper. Actually designed to work without one. Just a blast to ride hard and can take it all day long. Still my favorite of many I own, still ride it regularly. Do the same and your issues will miraculously go away. Anything sitting for 16 years with almost no milage will do the same. One spark plug is difficult to reach but a swivel solves that. No valve adjustments to mess with like other bikes,( do some shim under bucket valves on other bikes and then talk difficult). no chain mess or adjustments. Don't blame the bike blame the two people that let it sit with old fuel and haven't used the bike.

This bike has nothing to do with the new Buell. Harley Davidson doesn't, either. Which is a good thing. It's not a great idea to buy an old anything from HD Harley, especially if it sits in the garage a lot not being used.

I bought a non running 1980 GS550 and with a good amount of elbow grease, a tank restoration and a carb rebuild it is now running good (for the most part). It may need a good carb tube, clutch adjuatment and probably a new valve cover gasket but overall can't complain. I was out looking for a Honda but found myself a really great Suzuki!
@daveco1270
@daveco1270 2 дня назад
I agree, I think the CB750 makes a horrible chopper. The lines are all wrong. A Harley or an old Triumph makes for an ok chopper. If I had to complain about my 1975 CB750, which is I love, here's a few things I wouldn't mind improving. 1,) Stiffest throttle I've ever felt. It's a work out on the right wrist and forearm. (One of the lightest clutch levers though.) 2.) It's a bit heavy for what it is. Mine fell over once in my garage and it was a bitch to pick up. The weight is felt on slow speed maneuvers and when pushing the bike around. Once you're moving at a certain MPH it feels nice and planted. 3.) It's a bit underwhelming off the line. As you ride around town it fools you into thinking it's got some juice, but when you really get on the throttle you realize it doesn't. At least not mine. 4.) I don't like that you can't take the top end apart without removing the engine from the frame.
@navscycles
@navscycles 2 дня назад
The throttle on my Supersport is unbearable but my k is ok. You can change the spring if jt really comes to it. The other things I can definitely see
@dnswhh7382
@dnswhh7382 2 дня назад
Most of your points could be fixed by putting in 28 mm flat sliding Mikuni carbs with acceleration pumps: The spring is much softer, so no issue with your right hand anymore even on longer trips. Then the acceleration pump, which comes with the new carbs: it really makes you feel as if you have 20 more horses when you pull the throttle. The end power is about the same, but the entire engine instantly responds. I did it on my bike here and it is really great. The acceleration pump uses you turning the throttle to actively inject gas directly between the motor and the carburator. You can adjust the amount of gas, if you like. The effect is enormous, because due to this mechanism the engine gets full power in the very second you open the flat slide, as the gas doesn‘t have to react on the lowered pressure and then climbing up the nozzle before you feel anything. Works with the same airbox, although I would recommend K&N single filters. Search e.g. for www.mikuni-topham.de, they also provide support in english. Of course this is also not really cheap, but for me it was definitely worth it.

@@navscycles enjoy your videos . These cb750's really any vintage bike has to be approached on its own terms of course ; ) Not fair to hop off a gixxer thou (k5 my favorite) and then dwell on the front end bias of these . And I appreciate efi as much as anyone , but theres a "je ne sais quoi" when the bike requires more of YOU to interact with it regarding its mechanical idiosyncrasies. Those Keihin carbs demand you cultivate an ongoing relationship with them to keep you both happy ! Lol like all relationships it's an oppurtunity to take a zen and magnanimous approach to something that can be more than willing and capable to bewilder and frustrate you. But again when you're both happy there's no deeper satisfaction ! So we CAN ......learn to love our carbs ! Ask me how I know lol 😀

Old Motorcycles / Classic Motorcycles are my favorite types. Especially old BRITISH and Vintage Hondas. Currently I own a 1953 BSA 650cc twin Golden Flash that is 100% stock, a 1955 BSA 500cc Star Twin, and a 1968 Honda CRR 450cc Cafe Racer that was built by a Japanese Honda Racing Affliate. Also own a 1948 Norton ES2 500cc Single Plunger Frame motorcycle -and a 1954 Studebaker Commander Coupe with V8 auto engine. In the past, I have owned a 1956 BSA 500cc Shooting Star - 1941 BSA M20 WD 500cc single cyclinder - 1942 Harley Davidson 45 V twin war motorcycle - 1955 BSA C11 250cc. The automobiles I have owned are 1957 Austin Healey 3000, 1960 Morris Minor 2 dr coupe with a MGB engine racing car that I drove on the street - 1941 Plymouth Business Coupe with a Desoto Firedome Hemi - 1947 Pontiac Torpedo Straight 8, 3 speed, Silver Streak - 1939 Ford Coupe with Flat Head Eight - 1965 Triumph TR4 - 1958 Jaguar XK 160 Drophead Convertible - 1955 Studebaker President 3 speed coupe with a hopped up engine - 1966 Plymouth Fury State Police car with a hemi engine - 1987 Jaguar XJS V12 coupe. I'm a Baby Boomer Female and Motorhead since I was 14 years old. My father was an old hot rod guy and biker, therefore I found my interests via him and the surrounding neighborhood teens with their custom cars and the gas station a couple of blocks away who always had souped up cars and speedrome modified cars for tune-ups and modifications. By the time I was 16 years old, I moved to Huntington Beach California to live with my Aunt and Uncle and Cousin. Back then, ( mid 1960s ) was a nexus of custom cars, hot rods, motorcycles, and lots of fun with friends and Car Club / Surfer Club members. Back then, as a teenager with a Austin Healey 3000 and my BSA 500 StarTwin, and a member of a Car Club of California because I was dating a 20 year guy who owned a lighty modified/custom 1941 Pontiac Woody Wagon that belonged to the State Park Service. He was a silk screen/sign painter and a surfer. ALL IN ALL - MY LIFE HAS BEEN EXCITING AND FULL OF FUN TIMES!

I own a 1977 GL1000. Your bike looks to be in fairly good shape. I do note that the wheels are not original. The first three years of the Goldwing all had spoked wheels. Of all the closeness to original, the wheels are the most noticeable departure from original on the one you have. Obtaining a fully original model these days is near impossible. After hearing it idle high, there is a great chance you'll need the carburetor cluster rebuilt. I needed to do that on my bike.

The R5 was a piston controlled 5-port engine. The RD350 was a seven-port reed-valve engine. Yamaha dubbed those "Torque Induction". The "cover" on the left side is metal because it is the 2-stroke oil injection tank. You did not regap the contact points after cleaning ! To check the oil-injection pump, remove the bleeder screw with the red washer on the side. Hold the throttle halfway open. With your forefinger on the other hand, rotate the plastic thumbwheel clockwise. Oil should come out of the bleeder hole, after any air is expelled. Replace the screw. Remove the banjo bolts that hold the injector lines to each cylinder and rotate the thumbwheel with the throttle halfway open. Oil should come out each. Replace banjo bolts. Stroke adjustment on the pump is done by adjusting the threaded collar on the cable housing. You are giving us a half-plucked duck in trying to get the bike riding. A good specimen of the RD350 like that needs more care and attention ! All the same it is yours. All the best ! Trinidad & Tobago. West Indies.

Appreciate the enthusiasm you have for this bike! I've owned a 1975 Goldwing turquoise for almost 25 years now and hate the thought that now I have to sell it 'cuz, well, it's too heavy for me. But I've always loved its smooth, quiet ride compared to the other bikes I've owned and will miss it. Like you, I resisted adding anything to it when I bought it and wanted to keep it stock... but relented and added the engine guard (like the one on yours, 'cuz it's a good idea and sooner or later you will tip your bike over) plus a simple windshield to keep the bugs out of my teeth. Such a great bike... seems almost every time I rode it someone would wave at it me or, if I stopped somewhere (even at a stop light) they'd want to tell me about the great memories they had from riding a Gold Wing when they were younger. Definitely a great bike. Enjoy that Gold Wing!
