I love the way this old Honda feels. Mainly because of how modern it handles and the experience of the flat motor just makes so much sense from an engineering perspective.

My opinion which should save a TON of time: 1.) Do NOT modify the stock air filter, or air box, don't drill any holes in it, don't modify the intake or exhaust at all. 2.) Do NOT remove the catalytic converter (If it's a California model) and don't drill holes in the muffler internal baffles. Leave the intake and exhaust stock. 3.) CV carburetors never run properly when you modify the stock airbox and stock mufflers, and if they do run properly, they are going to be too lean and you'll get rough spots, which makes it less fun to ride. 4.) Japanese engineers tuned their CV carbs to match the mufflers, and if you don't have the original mufflers, or if you don't have the original carburetors that match the bike, try to find the matching parts, or consider re-jetting the carbs at a tuning shop with a dyno. 5.) Don't try to synchronize carburetors. You don't need to do this. I've never seen a multi cylinder motorcycle that needed the factory original carburetors to be synchronized. The reason people do this, is because they've modified the above parts, and the jetting is not correct, or the pilot jets are just plugged. 6.) Buy new Honda pilot jets for the carburetors, and replace them. Replace all the jets, if they are available for sale, and use the factory original sizes. 7.) Install new pilot jets, do not attempt to just use carburetor cleaner to fix the old jets, as that will not work. You have to buy new pilot jets. The precision holes in a pilot jet, mean that you cannot clean it properly. 8.) With new pilot jets, you will get rid of the rough idle, and stumbling off idle, and you won't need to synchronize the carbs. Synchronizing the carbs is a crappy repair for plugged pilot jets. The pilot jets get plugged just sitting with ethanol fuel over the winter. The hard resin ruins the jets. 9.) Pilot jets appear to be "good" but they are bad. Replace them with new ones. Buying new ones, assures equal jetting on all 4 carbs. 10.) If you can't get it to run properly, find a racer that builds and jets their own motorcycles, and ask them to fix it. Racers that tune their own carburetors, actually know how to fix carburetors and make them better.

Lots of great information here, I also have a had my hands dirty with old Hondas and have learned many of these things ( my dad knows way more tho so Im lucky to have him). 10 is a tip I did not know, thank you for the information sir!

Main idle screw lives behind the carburettors. Set idle at 1000 rpm. When cold starting use full choke, no throttle. Ride on.

Yah I see it, thing is I think they aren't running even so the idle being set right won't fix everything. Got a little work on my hands before I can ride! Thanks for the tip and watching.
