This channel has been set up to follow the adventures of my family and I as we travel around Scotland, the U.K. and the world in our new Suzuki Jimny SZ5. We will document the modifications, camps and evolution of the vehicle as it goes from factory spec to full on micro camper with the odd steam train thrown in as it’s a personal favourite of my son.
I've been lucky enough to travel around Antarctica while I was deployed on HMS Protector so I'll also be sharing some old time-lapse videos as the ship breaks through the ice on the way to visiting remote bases including Rothera and Port Lockroy.
I noticed in your video you did not put the 2 bolts back for the seat mounts and they have been kept open. I would advise you close it off with the bolts that you took out. 1. it will ensure no water and dust ingress into the car. 2. you wont loose the bolts.
Would it not have been better to trade your Jimny in for the New Commercial Jimny and save you the trouble fitting this kit. Also as yours is a Four seater version it would have been a much sort after Jimny and sold for more than you paid for it by about 25% as there are not many in the country and the cost is increasing all the time, because of the new emissions laws affecting the new Jimny Four seater and that's why the Commercial is the only new Jimny you can buy in the UK now.
What did you end up doing with your seat belts? The instructions from Front Runner say to bolt them to the middle bracket, but I'd really like to have them out of the way.
I pushed the metal end where it attaches to the bolt into where the seatbelt comes out off the plastic trim holds it in place and stops it knocking. kept them neat and tidy at the back.
Looks great. When you lay your front seats flat, is the base deck pretty level with them? I’m looking at sleeping in my Jimny and an even surface should work a lot better. Thanks.
Unfortunately no it doesn’t they are just a little to long for that. You do have room to cut them down and take the edge off by the seats which should give you the space but I’d advise some good measuring first 😂
That campsite should be renamed Midge Haven, we were there about 20 years ago and nearly got Midged to death, kids had to stay in the tent, absolutely beautiful area though.
Helpful video! Though I think it would be better if Front Runner made it higher---at least as high as the bottom of that 12v plug. That way you can store/install more things underneath like a battery, an ARB compressor, valuable items like a laptop, etc. Just put hinges on the board for access to the floor and then install lockable cam latches or compression latches that are flush to the floor. You can also screw in some e-track tie downs or those flush/retractable tie down anchors in key corners and just have a couple of e-track ratchet straps handy in case you wanna tie down anything.

Hi Thanks for the posting. It seems they are loosing a lot of storage space below the deck .Any ideas how to utilize and have access to the rest of the floor pan for additional storage tools etc. Thanks

Hey! Another question Wondering if you might be able to get the dimensions of LxW of the jack area (the styrofoam area, and the height from the bottom to the base deck? I have a shop in Australia that wants to fabricate a mount and lithium battery for that spot for a dual battery, and my Jimny is a few months away.
Yes mate I’ll get them to you, should be tomorrow. I’ve not forgot that you need the one to where the base deck turns in also. Just been moving house so busy busy busy and Jimny still has my bike in the boot.

Hey! Are you able to let me know what the measurements are for the base deck, please? Front runner isn't able to get them for me. I'm specifically looking to know what the length is from the boot end to the opposite end of the deck (from the middle of the deck) and what the length is from the cutout section on the side to the opposite end of the deck, if you get what I'm saying! I need these to figure out if my fridge will fit. Thanks!

When setting up awning, pull open the side poles first and have them further out that the awning width... Then unroll the awning, drop legs, grab side poles and insert... ;)
No matey it’s right off the B road mentioned in the video. The area is really popular in the summer but quieter now. Also no midges now which is always good as the Scottish midge is savage.
Nice! I have seen on some car accessory sites, that they make..basically, roughly a 100mm tube, that goes from the rear of the interior roof to the top of the rear view mirror, for storing anything long. I can't remember what it was attached to? 👍
tks for the video West Hghland MicroAdventures! It´s a great idea to put a hinge and make a small hatch. Also, FR could do a version that make possible to maintain one of the rear seats.
You’re right Nelson that would be great, I’ll be fitting the hinge in the next few weeks so I’ll post a video with that when it’s complete so you can see the modifications then the next challenge will be a sliding drawer for the cooker. Lots to come and thanks for watching
Unfortunately you can’t you have to carry it around in a separate bag. I’m going to look at adding a hinge to the back section so I can continue to use the jack space. Alternatively you would have to travel around with the Allen key fitting and take a deck off (6 bolts) Hope this helps
