Thanks! We were all friends at Berklee College of Music from 74-78. This was part of a set performed by the Berklee Jazz Choir at a restaurant in Somerville, MA. The leader of the Jazz Choir was John Stevens, who shared an apartment with me and Jerry, the guitar player. Several members got to do some individual numbers, and this was Rod's. I have the recording of the whole night, but this was Rod's only feature number.
Whilst fascinating to learn about the VOX and the AC30, it is also a depressing confirmation of a familiar British story. Amazing technological innovation and absolutely shite management. (Car companies, motorcycle companies, aerospace companies, software companies, etc, etc.)

I wonder how many more treasures like this are buried in unreleased media. GCD has done extraordinary work with covers. That’s no knock on their original content, just a reflection of their many musical gifts.
Amen! Julian. The band, the whole catalog of albums … just great stuff. I got into these guys with the 2x4 album, had to backtrack and get what I missed. Funny, I was then as now a rabid metal fan, but these guys were fantastic. John also wrote “Pretty is as Pretty does” on the flip flop album. Dang good track!
I was in high school in 1969 and got a Vox Royal guardsmen…I got ripped off, Thomas Oregon took vox over and made it all transistor…Yuck! The tube amps in this video were STELLAR!
I've watched this multiple times as I'm a big Vox fan, but I never noticed that at 12:57 the amp Mick and Bill are standing by doesn't appear to have any speakers in it hehe
John Poe: if only people knew just how unridiculous it is to say of a virtually unknown drummer just how great he was. Astounding pattern choices, phenomenal head tone, genius-level propulsion. All befitting a band whose team artistry---never better than this masterpiece album---should have made 2x4, with a better record company, a five song, radio-heavy legend.
