Hello the internet, Tough Monkey here, also known as Craig Laws a 46 year old gamer, civils estimator and product tester for Amazon.

First introduced to gaming in the early 1980’s with my Spectrum 48k, I’ve been happily playing with myself in dark rooms ever since. Spectrums to PS5 and every major console and PC inbetween. From Horace Goes Skiing to Horizon Zero Dawn I’ve been a gamer. Companies like Codemasters and Ocean raised me as a child.

For several years I've been one of Amazon UK's leading product testers with many of their most viewed and engaged reviews, and as part of the Amazon Vine programme I receive hundreds of new products to test. I share many of these, and my own purchases, on RU-vid. All of my reviews are entirely independant and unpaid.

My RU-vid channel is split between Product Reviews, Retro Gaming and Sim Racing guides. I’m not here for likes, subs or money, simply a RU-vid channel to justify growing old with gaming and fiddling with gadgets and tech.

Damn sonic is running slow af
@ToughMonkey
@ToughMonkey 2 дня назад
It's because I'm running the PAL version of Sonic. The NTSC version ran at 30 frames per second against PAL's 25 frames. Most games dealt with it well but on the original Sonic it was really noticable if you had the means to compare it. It's really noticable now when you play the game on original equipment because every subsequent version, such as Sonic Jam on the Saturn and modern emulators run at the faster pace and most people are more used to that or have perhaps never experienced it on the original console.
@pukalo
@pukalo 2 дня назад
PAL Sonic 1 is so slow lmao, at least for later Sonic games they compensated for the NTSC to PAL slowdown.
@ToughMonkey
@ToughMonkey 2 дня назад
Yeah, it's only when I go back and play on the OG equipment that I remember there was such a difference back then. Pal running at 25 frames per second and NTSC at 30 frames per second made Sonic 1 not that Sonic at all!
@pukalo
@pukalo 2 дня назад
@@ToughMonkey in some cases the developers overdo it with the speed compensation. The PAL version of Super Mario Bros. on the NES actually runs faster than the NTSC version, and Mario jumps higher in the PAL version.

Hi, I'm sorry if you're unhappy with the content of the channel, but I do say in my bio that it's both a review channel and a gaming channel. My gaming videos hugely outnumber my review videos, only 47 reviews to 354 gaming videos so I'd hardly say I'm a fake gaming channel. You may have noticed a lot of review videos recently because, ironically, I spent most of the first half of this year producing gaming videos and I've gotten a little behind on product reviews. I'm nearly caught up, just one more due to go out in the next couple of days, and then I'll be finishing off the first in a line of my biggest gaming videos yet. I spent a week in Atlanta in May as a result of sim racing and I'll be back out there in October for more. Between now and then I've got something absolutely huge coming which I can't wait to share, and will explain why I've not done any sim racing videos for a while.

@@ToughMonkey I struggle with it on my iPhone
@ToughMonkey
@ToughMonkey 6 дней назад
@@onlyinmanchester3309it can be difficult getting the balance just right. Small movements holding the phone can be amplified through to the kart’s movements on track and it’s easy to find yourself zig-zagging. Adjusting the sensitivity of the steering in the game settings can help reduce that. When I used to play on iPhone I used to also sit in a way I could support my right elbow on something so that I had an anchor point and rotate my left hand to turn the kart. It made it a lot more stable. Doing that I was ranked 5th in the world. When I moved to playing on iPad Pro it made it a lot easier for me because the weight of the iPad reduced any movement in my grip to practically nothing, plus I could see my turn in and apexes easier too. That moved me up to 2nd in the world for a couple of years while I was playing it full time. I only get very limited playing time these days through other commitments so I’ve slipped back down to 5th I think.

Nice review. I'm looking to replace mi Sony WH-XB900N but my main concern is the ANC. Is this one on par with Sony? Thank you
@ToughMonkey
@ToughMonkey 7 дней назад
I've not used those Sony headphones before so it would be wrong of me to comment on how these Creative headphones fair against them. Sony's ANC is generally top drawer, certainly on the MX range, but difficult for me to know what the XB range is like. I would suggest that the XB range is where the Creatives are being pitched against looking a the pricing of both ranges so you would expect similar performance. From my own experience, I think the ANC on the Creative Zens is very good indeed. I sat in the garden at the weekend watching the Grand Prix on my iPad, and had no idea that my next door neighbour was mowing their lawn. The passthrough "ambient" mode is very good for remaining part of the environment, and that's what I use when I'm walking the dog or listening to something when my wife is home. The Adaptive ANC is where I'm a little more sceptical as I can't really tell what that's doing, if anything. From what I can see from trade info, the Creative has a similar battery life to the Sony WH-XB910N (I haven't got details on your 900N version) when both have ANC on. I do note that the 910N has Alexa and OK Google built in...that's actually something I'd quite like in the Creative as I do tend to use Alexa to control my Amazon Music account.

Good video , informative. Did pod point contact your DNO for you as part of the install process and were their any blockers such as your supply being looped or your fuse not being big enough. Thank you
@ToughMonkey
@ToughMonkey 11 дней назад
I’m not aware of Pod Point contacting EDF, my energy supplier, but they’re pretty much in bed with each other. Pod Point are EDF’s approved supplier and are the only charging company they actively link to from their website. As for any blockers, after supplying all of the answers to their questions, photos and videos there were no issues raised and Pod Point supplied everything required for installation including a dedicated separate fuse for the charger. It was about as straightforward as I imagine it could have been.

@@ToughMonkey thanks for the reply. EDF won’t be your DNO but understand what you’re saying 👍. EDF are an energy supplier where as a DNO is the distribution network operator so National grid as an example, usually EV installers would contact the DNO to understand whether the increased load on the network could cause any issues as such. I tried to find some information on this on the pod point website but failed. Thanks again

Hi. thanks for review. I have one important question. Can you use anc or sxfi while using headphone with aux cable? I mean dsp still working with aux input?
@ToughMonkey
@ToughMonkey 12 дней назад
Unfortunately it won't work when connected by aux cable. As soon as you connect the aux cable the headphones turn off and the tiny amount of power required to modulate the speakers in the headphones is drawn down the cable as an analogue signal. The systems in the headphones that are powered, such as the ANC and SXFI, are no longer functional. There is a workaround for this if your playback device does not have any form of bluetooth functionality. You can get bluetooth transmitters, designed for the entertainment systems in airplanes, that plug into the aux port on the playback device and then send the signal via bluetooth to the headhphones which you can then operate fully. I've got a Syntech one that works pretty well for about £25. It's not the answer you were hoping for, I'm sorry, but it's an option.

I appreciate your input! Debating whether I should get these or the Vokalen Hyper Pros. Not sure if ill be using sxfi that much plus the Hyper Pros have touch controls
@ToughMonkey
@ToughMonkey 13 дней назад
They might be worth trying them out before buying them. Touch controls for something you can’t see sounds like you’d hit things you’re not wanting. Headphone controls are always a pain, but at least with physical buttons you can orientate yourself before pressing them. But yes, SXFI is not something you’d miss.

@ToughMonkey
@ToughMonkey 19 дней назад
Cost and value are two different things that I assess in my reviews. Was £15 a lot of money to pay for a bit of plastic that is involved for only a few seconds in the process? Yes, it is. But, am I still using regularly and making some great snacks that I wouldn’t make without it? Yes as well. Expensive, yes. Good value for that expense, also yes. The last question I always ask myself when deciding whether a product is good or bad is if I would buy it again at the same price knowing what I know now. In my case I would.

hey there, why does your kart judder under braking? my kart's never do even though i run a very similar setup to you. just wondering why that is. Cheers.
@ToughMonkey
@ToughMonkey 21 день назад
I think what you’re referring to is my “tappy tappy” method of braking. I have a method of braking and accelerating where instead of standing on the brakes and risking a lock up I repeatedly tap the brake (similar to how anti-lock brakes on a road car operate). As the kart is slowing, and the engine revs drop, I also tap the throttle just to keep the engine revs up. That helps stop the kart from bogging down through the slower corners. As the kart is coming out of the corner it’s also how I prevent the rear wheels spinning while I still have a bit of steering lock applied. Very few people use this technique, but it works for me.

Not too difficult, no. Your main issue is visibility if overtaking on single carriageway roads as you don’t have a clear view of the oncoming traffic so you need to stay further back. Also, if you have toll booths or drive-thrus you’re going to be on the wrong side to talk to machines/staff. But generally it’s pretty straight forward.
