If you can wear your wedding ring in your hand it’s not a real sport…. Sorry bro, but to pretend this isn’t as nerdy and useless as something like soccer or tennis you’re delusional. Real men do combat sports, plain and simple.
A lot of people seem to forget that fencing derives from actual real-life duels. If you'd remove the armour and make the swords sharp, it'd be very deadly - while most rapier duels were to "first blood", which is what fencing imitates, one bad cut or thrust could end your life.
Except that fencing gives the point to whoever lands first and a lot of exchanges end with one person scoring a fraction of a second before their opponent, which would result in both parties being injured if it were a real swordfight. That's where most people's criticisms come from. It's a sport that has become so far removed from where it was derived that it's almost unrecognizable. Backswing is a very legit concept. You stab me mid-swing, the momentum is still going to catch you. Fencing disregards all of that in favor of simply touching them first
Rapiers are very different from the modern fencing antenna aswell. Epee's are triangulated and the size of a side sword with a pistol grip meaning that only peirces are effective where the 1700s rapier were both a thrust and cut weapon with and a double edged blade. It was a civilian self defense tool like the modern glock in comparison to any assault rifle. Great for defending yourself on the Streets, terrible for fighting a war on its lonesome.
@@cloudmaster182could say the same with archery, air pistol, boxing, taekwondo, judo, javelin throwing, kendo, etc. All pretty removed from actual combat in some capacity.
@@cloudmaster182 in foil and saber you dont get points by hitting first. And when you watch the video, often their is only one person who hit. (one light) Its not at all far from real sword fighting. My students doing much better in HEMA class when they come from sport fencing with foil. Better than the ones who do HEMA only for the same period of time.
"boring compared to hema" hmm yes people actively moving back and forth on a piste and occasionally committing to big explosive lunges/fleches is much more dull than two people circling each other slowly and then doubling to score no points
Not every sport involves self defense some are just a SPORT. Those comments are like watching a javelin throw competition and saying oh boxing is better in a real fight. Who in their right mind is bringing a javelin to a fight
I don't get why this would be considered bad sportsmanship. Is it bad to celebrate his victories? Even if small victories like single points? This, to me, seems pretty healthy. How could that be a problem?
Дайте им реальные шпаги и посмотрим как они друг на друга попрыгают) Пол часа по кругу будут ходить, до тех пор пока идеальный момент для атаки не выберут.
When a sports gets so fast that people that don't practice it don't understand what's happening and start typying "bad fencing" & "was better before" in the comments.
