I went down to the driving range right after watching this video and it really works. I was averaging more 5 more yards just swinging easy to get the feel of the change. I will continue to practice this method until I can get back to my regular speed. I am sure I must have been casting. Thanks Giles!
Another component to the thing we call a golf swing! Lag is a lovely feeling when executed correctly, It leads to great compression! Enjoy the holiday!
Because your trail arm is continuing to widen during the downswing and it extends fully just after impact. Remember this is just a feeling but your body will also be shifting rotating and pushing vertically at the same time as you’re doing this
Depends on your grip and how you’ve set the club face. The forearms will be twisting on the way down in order to get the clubface square. More videos on this to come
Excellent points in the video Giles! Yesterday, I was not following your advise and my game suffered for it. I was trying to get the arm drop, but somehow, it was not always working as you have described. Driver, fairway woods, irons were all coming off either weak or thin! I know it's a work in progress and there is no instant pudding, so I will continue to work on it! Good Job Giles!
Great drill. I like to think of "using the ground" more as using friction than creating vertical force. When you swing correctly without golf shoes, the feet turn a lot. Some players may actually get vertical, but the point of pushing into the ground is create more rotational force, which puts stress on your golf spikes.
From Las Vegas... your explanation of the downswing, coupled with the concept of visualizing a "pizza slice" is brilliant! Thank you Giles for being the BEST COACH ON THE PLANET!!!
Hi, can you show the slow mo on the club face contact pre - and post ball impact hand. You thorough analogy on club face contact. Thanks. Most amateur and recreational golfers fail to execute it consistently
This drill goes nicely with my last lesson from you. I used the Skillest platform to mark up my video and I did indeed see that I am still hitting the top of the pizza slice. I’ll need to do more pump drill. Thanks so much for this video.
In order to practice your "pizza slice method" Giles, it seems that your split hand drill and the shoulder rotation drill will be very complimentary! Well Done Giles! I like this thought in creating a sound swing!
Get it on the green as quick as possible so it rolls out nicely to the hole giving it a chance to drop into the hole from anywhere around the hole..... I'd recommend an 8 iron for most people in this situation, and if in doubt always putt. Forget pitching, spinning etc in this particular situation.
Works for some but not all. Go for a different strength and weaknesses so it’s about giving them options and letting them find what works best for them. An 8 iron chip and run is fantastic for a lot of golfers but for some it doesn’t work
Why not just video your swing down the line and draw a line at 40 degrees through the shoulder joint. This is what I do (for a 7 iron) and when you actually hit a ball, you can then see if you have the “correct” shoulder tilt when the shoulders turn through 90 degrees.
Most apps like Golf Swing Replay have the slope of the lines drawn indicated. Seeing how you move is a big part of learning how to move. The feels not real so you can’t rely on it. Love your videos by the way.
Thank you for the great lesson seems to be hard to get that left elbow at 45 degrees at 62 years old there's some pain going on there when I try to really straighten my arms up. I guess you just do the best you can do as you get older. It makes me feel like I'm too tight and stiff when I get my elbow straight also and I know we're supposed to be loose
Can you do a video that builds on this video as to whether the lower body starts the down move with the shoulders to follow or whether the upper body and lower body start together. If I try to move the lower body first, I tend to drag the club behind me which leads to an open club face.
Genius! Best teacher who actually explains step by step where each part should be and what it should be doing. Just got yourself a new subscriber. I'm pretty much just letting my turn hit the ball and no compression. Hopefully I get this and get me swinging correctly.
This realignment suggestion is quite interesting Giles! After viewing this video, I tried your suggestion looking into a mirror and it seems doable. Also, your suggestion that it can be practiced on prior to making the real golf swing on the course during a round is good! As Always, Well Done Giles! Always Get Something Useable Out Of Your Videos!
Exactly that! It’s a super doable move that is also easy to get your head around. The key is to be set up in the correct position to make this as easy as possible
this move pushing down felt awesome so played golf just doing this move today, felt so confident with every shot, just didn't hit it that well but it felt like i was going to hit every shot great and to me that matters, with some practice i'm sure it will help, it feels like i don't need to worry about the backswing or where the club is going, one thought is freedom from confusion
@@Gilesgillgolf You want to tell Jack that? 😂 You’re right … but what he meant was you don’t want it swaying left or right, or up or down. Read his book 📖
