@@Gilesgillgolf I agree. But a big problem for me (and when I look around me on the range, others as well) was rushing the downswing. So the tip I got was probably not meant as a promotion for slow, but for "slower than you do it right now".
SSuper Good Video! I want to request something, your Complete Guides, like the driver guide is THE BEST coaching videos I have found on RU-vid, all those small details and the small reasons and movements and the explanations is what all of us want when looking on youtube for golf advice,FULL EXPLANAtions on parts of the golf game....please please make complete guides on other parts, like putting, sand shots, irons and so on. When viewing these videos it really takes away doubt when actually playing golf, because I know every little detail and it gives me confidence in my shots.. So thank you and hoping to see more guides!
Good video. I would say less experienced golfers (hate the term amateur, there are some great amateur golfers) they don’t understand there is a 3 part firing mechanism. It starts in the backswing with weight floating towards the target. Then the torso takes over, and third the arms and hands fire through the ball. It’s not a backswing and downswing but a sequence that starts as soon as you take the club back.
Giles, you remain cutting edge in every aspect of your instruction. This is the first time I've heard an instructor use the term "sway gap" in relation to driving a holf ball. You should copyright that terminology!! Another fine instructor I recently watched named Chris Ryan, had a wonderful drill to create this gap as well. That is the drill of bringing the arms down fast and then quickly stopping them. It automatically shifts the pelvis and left leg forward as well. I need to try the "chopsticks drill" to see which one works better. Your drill might create even better spinal rotation. Chopsticks are not just for Asian restaurants anymore. Great video!!
Thank you! The sway gap is actually a sports box term so you can thank them. Yes, that Chris Ryan drill is awesome and something that I’ve used in the past as well. Exactly that they have multiple purposes!
Hi Giles, I’ll definitely be giving this a go. As a 50 year old with a mid single digit handicap I haven’t lost any significant distance (yet). I put this down to two things. 1, the incremental improvements with driver technology over the last 35 years and the distance gains from these and 2) spending an hour in the gym each day. If I can add an additional say 20 metres to my drive, consistently then where do I send you a well earned reward?
Hi Giles, having watched your two videos “ How to start your down swing” & “ This ONE move added 39 yards to my driver” - both of which are excellent, I am trying to work out the difference between the driver swing and the woods/ iron swing in relation to the “ sway gap” . Am I correct in assuming that the difference lies only in ball position , earlier lower body shift to the left with woods / irons and importantly upper body stays more over ball with woods/ irons as opposed to a pronounced upper body tilt with driver?
This video would seem to show that in the tw's driver swing, the pressure seems to be in the trail side a bit more than yours. You appear to be more centered at top of backswing. Is that correct and is one preferred?
The eyes can lie. Tiger is 50/50 at the top. His pelvis is back closer to the target and his left shoulder I behind the ball (close to the inside part of his trail foot). This produce the 50/50 which is what you would see on his force plate data
