Hi there! Im currently loking to get my first car, and Ive had my eye on a 1968 MG MGB...do you recommend it as a first car, or would you say to look other models? Thanks for a great video
@santiagowalton1436 it's a great first classic. Like most old cars, things will go wrong, but it's simple to fix and parts are cheap and readily available.
It's interesting to hear mr. Stephenson would prefer it to look like 675 LT from the get go! I have huge respect for him for sharing his knowledge and being involved in designing a number of cars I admire. I remember being fascinated with MP4-12C when it first came out and sort of struggling with its design. It is very restrained and I thought it could have a bit more flair. But I couldn't point out one thing wrong with it. I finally saw the car in the flesh at the British Motor Museum this year and I kept turning around after I examined it to look at it a bit more. This is when I started to seriously appreciate it. It's a cohesive, VERY well thought-out package. All he lines make sense. It's reduced to a point of being minimalist and I guess that's why people yearned for more but it's also why it matures very well. I seriously appreciate it now and would love to own one. I know it wasn't suposed to look like an F1 but it's the closest to it design-wise out of the whole line-up.
Thing about the MGB , it's the sweet spot between the midgets , lotuses etc and the really big engine stuff like e types Cobras etc. Yet......... A good one can hold its own with modern traffic and with overdrive cruise comfortably. Factor in the fact that parts are so cheap and readily available , it is the perfect car.
This video makes me long for the days when we had roads like this in America. I suppose there are still some out west but here in Maryland.... all but gone. Sure miss my 73 "B"... or is it being 21... maybe both. I used to say driving my MGB was the most fun you could have with your cloths on. That and sailing...there were many days when I did both.
@@classiccartvfilms Hi there. No, I don’t own one at the moment. I have one of Carroll’s cars, but ours while fun, is set-up like the race car it was and it’s not a lot of fun to drive long distances or all weekend lol. Since college, I have always liked the late 60s MGs, especially for a more frequent driver car. It’s between this and a Datsun Z car in the next year or so. Again, this video and car are truly wonderful to watch and I appreciate you reaching out.
@@classiccartvfilmsIt will probably take me a bit to find/import a right hand drive version of either car, but I’ll check back when either arrives. Enjoy your weekend and that stunning car.
@@classiccartvfilms I’m actually addicted to Porsches. I’ve had a few watercooled cars in the past last being a stunningly beautiful 997 which I hated because of how soulless it was to me🤦🏾♂️. Now running a tribute 993rs🥰. Prefer the old stuff, having had an e30 m3 evolution and a Nurburgring edition e34 m5 6speed last yr production model in total 22/17 years of ownership of this cars at same time.
Watched this again. Still great. Instead of wasting all that money, time,& material on a Tesla, Make these, (1968 MGB) just as it came back in 1968. Guaranteed they would sell all they could make if the price is right. Note: You're only here on this planet for a very short time so make the best of it. Enjoy & take care of what you have. The feeling that uplifts your soul doesn't come from a prescription bottle or illicit street drugs. MGBs ect. are therapeutic to me anyway & when you praise Jesus of Nazareth while driving your B, it's perfect.
Very interesting- thank you. Have been a fan of Frank Stephenson for awhile and always value his opinion. A couple of Alfas I think will be modern classics are the 4C and the Giulia Quadrifoglio- the latter having an epic engine.
12C is a insane bargain for what you get but I believe the F1 and P1 will be the main poster child’s. Speed tail and Senna are also special but think P1 will outshine those over time.
I agree about the P1. It features a lot in the other McLaren video on my channel - the GTR cars. Have you watched that one? ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-_8m8v7rQNm8.htmlsi=JcOK4nY10Xy9i_Vl
I had the same 68 in burg but with steel wheels.stebro exhaust. I put new rocker panels on it a replaced the solenoid 2xs since I forgot to shield it when I drained the radiator. It was a great car . Very reliable. Had it for 5 years in high school and college. Great for moving back and forth to college from NY to pa. Was a wonderful experience despite what others say….. 😅
Thank you! More Porsche videos coming soon. Recent drives include an original, perfect spec 930 Turbo and a 911R, which was genuinely one of the best 911s we've ever driven. Absolutely worth all the hype.
I bought a 2014 12C Spider almost new and now only 2k miles. It sits in a humidity controlled garage. It’s rarely been wet. It always draws a smiling crowd for its wonderful curves and lines. Drives perfectly and is lightening fast. It’s a classic now, not 5 or 10 or 20 years time. Nick.
Thank you so much for a great mclaren clip - got so much great information about this car that I didnt know before. Need to dive deep into the other clips.
Great video, beautiful car in the best colour, I currently have r/b roadster, which i bought back after 15 years, i also had a 1970 mgb gt at the same time. They were great fun. Owning the car this time round, it needs some TLC, I'm looking forward to getting back to its former glory with some tweaks😊.
The next car you should feature in your modern classic series is the 1991 Acura NSX. I have one that sits next to my 2012 McLaren MP4-12C Spyder in volcano red. Steve
You know, Steve, I've been thinking about that one myself! I've always been an admirer. The next video in the pipeline (perhaps the next two videos, actually) is Lotus-themed, but I do have a bit of a link to a friend of a friend with an NSX. I will reach out.
Nicely done and narrated vid, thanks! I'm in the US and also had a hankerin' for one since my teens and finally beginning looking now that I'm in my 5th decade of life. I don't know which year to get but if there's a "most reliable" year, I'll look at that.
Thanks very much, Malcolm. One day my own MGB will be featured here, but that is a bit of a painful, 20 year story! I'm not sure that there is such thing as a reliable year! However, the most sought after cars are the early ones, and roadsters especially. I hope you find a good one and have lots of fun with it!
That's a beautiful MG ! I love the BRG. I had a 1974 MGB GT (pre rubber bumper) And I loved it ! Great fun to drive and tinker with! Living in Iowa at the time as a hard top with a decent heater I could drive it year round..That was in 1987 and I was 30 at the time. My Father (bless his heart) always told me how impractical it was. But as much as I loved dear old Dad he was boring ! So practicality did not enter into it at all ! It was good fun ! I miss that MG more than any other car I ever owned. It only cost me $2200 ! Best 2200 I ever spent !
Beautiful car. I had a similar one and loved it. More power? I later bought one already converted to the Buick 215 ci (Rover 3.5L) aluminum V-8. I bought it with the conversion already completed but my understanding is... The aluminum V-8 is lighter than the original iron 4, no suspension upgrades required, and as a Rover engine it pretty much bolts right up to the trans. Didn't overdo the power but made it a much more satisfying drive in my opinion. Is it true Brits like warm beer because Lucas refrigerators? Don't know, but my MG's were very reliable!))
BTW: I've owned my 2.7RS Touring for almost 15 years and never knew about the book. Mine came from Japan and is unaltered since new. Would love to get my hands on that book.
@@classiccartvfilms Yah crazy. the 12C was such a good car although the one thing that was shocking was the turbo lag which was massive. I sold it after 6 years because that was the length of my warranty extension. I couldn't bare the risk of it breaking down and those famous McLaren charges back then.
Got to love an F1, great film and fascinating to hear about the '2nd life' these fabulous car are acquiring. Timing is great as I'm still on a high from a from a great LeMan race weekend and was at La Sarthe in '95 when it all started. Thank you for the video, more F1 content please
