the moment that gave me chills and then i was like wait wait if church is the director how did the alpha... then i remember how cortana came around since flash cloning was a thing it would make sense that this happens
All these years later, technically, project freelancer was a success. Leonard and Allison probably spent a lifetime in the memory unit before caboose smashed it.
i still get goosebumps! i didnt see this coming when i first watched it and it honestly was the best reveal in any show or movie. and in the same episode you find out Church is an AI?!?! bruh. RT was cooking in this episode!!!
"Sincerely yours, the former Director of Project Freelancer: *Dr. Leonard Church.*" I may have had this spoiled for me, but GOD does that name drop give me goosebumps. Anyone else?
I wish I could go back in time and listen to this for the first time again. While it's amazing and always leaves me speechless, there was something special about it the first time.
This, Epsilon's speech at the end of 10, and EpsilonChurch's final death speech are some of the best moments in this show and i only regret i found it so late.
"The memory of her has haunted me my entire life" Yeah I got the same shit. But damn when I heard this speech and looking back at the first episode dude basically made AI units of himself and his gf. Truly a badass. So take that chairman!
The recollection trilogy will always be my favorite. It's so fucking raw. The freelancer saga may have the best action, but the drama of recollection is just perfect.
Me and my best friend have heard these dozens of times over the years . And we both still get chills everytime we hear "the former director of project freelancer . Dr. Leonard Church ."
Dead ass, this must have been a massive bombshell back in 2008 for RVB fans, especially after reconstruction had built up that RVB had a deeper story behing it. I can only imagine how it must've felt, since I wasn't watching the show back then.
Memory is such a powerful thing. It can torment you to the brink of death, it can uplift you and make you stronger. Memory is what makes us what we are. Memory can be a prison but it can still be the jailer giving you the key to freedom. So do not become an old man so filled with memory you cannot see hope.
Does anyone know what the song that plays in the background of this scene is called? Edit: Found it! It's called First Wave, and is part of Trocadero's Ghosts That Linger album.
“So send your men, they won’t find themselves a fight. They’ll only find an old man, an old man tired but satisfied he did his duty. An old man tired from a mind more filled with memory than it is hope.” Hits me so hard to this day
The Director never was arrested. He killed himself using a pistol from Carolina before anyone could arrest him. Said pistol was taken by Chairman Hargrove and kept as a trophy.
This is the scene that got me hooked on the show, I was casually paying attention to it while my husband was binge watching it. We went back and rewatched every season after that so I could catch it all 😂
The conversation between the Dr. Church and the Chairman struck a cord deep inside me, especially this last reply to the Chairman by Dr. Church the former Director of Project Freelancer and the father of Carolina.
how to be so polite yet basically tell someone "theres nothign you can do to me that is worse than what ive done to myself" either that or a very nicely worded "fuck off"
One has to remember very few people in life willingly walk down the dark path. All too often they are thrust down against their own will by others or because of certain circumstances. But in their final moments of life they will look back on their choices, that led them to where they are and say *_Was it all worth it in the end..._*
Every so often, I come back to this speech... and every time, it strikes deep into my core. It is a testament to what the show is, and beyond that a testament to how well something a like a web comedy about Halo could evoke such deep and honest thoughts on, as hidden or obvious as you may think, mental illness and depression.
“It is an undeniable, and may I say fundamental quality of man, that when faced with extinction, every alternative is preferable”- dr Leonard luke church
“No law against the atrocities we inflict on ourselves” This is a lie It is illegal to clone oneself due to ethical reasons because of organ harvesting etc You can pay a large sum and some jail time for this... and I don’t think it has changed 500 years later We have the ability to clone ourselves but choose not to due to ethical reasons So.... Yeah....
Animal clones are a far cry from human clones. There have been to date to my knowledge, zero human clothes, or even humans grown entirely in vitro. So this is a moot point, as it is science fiction. Even Dolly, the most well known sheep clone was never repeated, had health issues, and took *multiple* tries to get a clone to live as long as it did. This is science fiction. Clones are not viable, and not for any "ethical" reason. The science is literally not there to support cloning of something more complex than a sheep or mouse. And it is hard to prove or disprove that the clone has negative impacts on aging or life span because it is so controversial. If you think for one second that humanity or any nation has "ethics" you are wrong. People want to be served by people they can talk down to and treat like shit and feel no guilt over. Clones are literally that, because they are inherently not people. But, and again. Human Clones *do not exist* and it is science fiction. Do not ever confuse science fiction with reality. And Conspiracy Theories that make you believe in the Big Bad Shadow Government are another form of blanket control. They Are Not Real.
DwarfyDoodad no... I know it’s science fiction. And that it is scientifically hard to do. But I’m talking about the ethics Side because he said that “there is no law on the atrocities we inflict on ourselves”. Because epsilon is a clone of the director. There are some United Nations laws somewhere in a book but I’m too lazy to check. Anyway.. even if it was possible to clone oneself I believe it would become illegal to do so in a matter of minutes due to the ethical reasons surrounding it.
Well... I gotta say I give him credit for at least trying to stay alive and keep her memory alive. Despite all that he did, he was simply a man who loved a girl. A girl he lost and is heart broken over a period of time. Do we really blame him for all that he has done? He’s actually one of the controversial characters I’ve never seen in any series I’ve ever seen. Props to a couple of entertainers who made a show that many find to love.
