I liked B the best (I assume it was flat) and C second best (LF head bump)? I agree they all sounded slightly different which is great depending on what the track calls for.. I’ll probably pick up a pair before too long!
POS H6 Pro Closed vs. Shure SRH840A I want to have a balanced approach to gaming and music and enjoy both. After some research, I am stuck between these two products, can you give me feedback? Bass quality is not very important to me, I care more about treble, mids and more importantly frequency response. I live in a noisy area so I have to choose closed or semi-open products. Can you help me out to figure out which is best choice?
Royal Blue sound wider too, 73p more "vintage" I guess, pleasing the highs, making the sound more cohesive, hard to explain the 1173 with objective words
you use mono chains of 500 series in your vidoes right? How does that work? As if I'd see you apply these chains on stereo tracks too. Your feedback is appreciated and you have a good channel, keep it up man!
@@soundcasts2udios Is see thanks! Also, I can see you use the slq51x. Have you compared the black eq with the others, why did you choose this one? Thanks again in advance!
Thank you for this. I decided to get a pair of Royal Blues. 73s are great for tracking, but I need something for stereo mixing as well. Blues are a very cost effective way of getting Neve flavor and take up less 500 space (2 slots vs 1/3 of a slot x 2, with DIYRE Pallets).
I really liked what the 73 was doing to the guitars on this track, especially that little lead. It gelled the mids together a lot more. Definitely sounds like it would take a while to learn when to reach for it vs the Capi.
I liked the API with filters (I think it was sample D) the best for running everything through it - but the 73p sounded like the mids popped out a little more.. so selective use between the two, api for drums, rhythm guitars etc and the 73p on tracks where you want to push the track forward in the mix (vocals, maybe lead guitar). I always try to play to the strengths of some of these modules. May not be a massive difference but if it is pushing the sound in the direction I want the track to head, maybe it saves me a little eq later on. Thanks bro for sharing
I even heard it through the tiny MacBook Pro 14" speakers. The SRH840A mix had more natural mids as well, the M50x had dull upper mids in comparison, noticeable in the snare sound. Also, the upper bass/lower mids were rounder in the SRH840A mix, i. e. I could hear the bass guitar more clearly through the tiny speakers.
I have and use both in every mix. I use the Lindell 80 buss too on buss channels for a bit of color. Loves the Lindell and most PA stuff. Solid. Good on cpu too. Thanks for video.
Would love a video on tracking with hardware compression, settings, and workflow. Are you compressing completely on the way in or half on the way in and half in the box?
Yep, absolutely same over here. I try to get everything sounding "pretty good" as to what I'm used to hearing and like, and then the rest of mixing is so much easier, especially after those little layers of saturation and compression.
What monitors are you listening back on? To me (on my Avantone Gauss 7s), the Sennheiser mix sounds WAY better. The AT mix sounds very dull by comparison. Maybe I've misunderstood something here, but those are my two cents. Thanks for posting!
Mixed version sounded a lot better. I generally don’t bother trying to level match things precisely any longer. If I’m getting the tone, the sound I want from where things are at level wise post-plugin (or analog) then I will adjust levels in context of mix and move on to next track or task. I’ve also learned that having everything precisely “in balance” from a technical perspective is at times not what a song needs - sometimes having that snare poke out a little more than being “in balance” is a good thing and gives a song character. I’m trying to really focus more on the art and the feel/vibe and less on the pure technicality. At any rate thanks for sharing your video and thoughts!
Thanks for the review. I bought two FA38s because I love Peterson and the folks at DIYRE… indeed listening via RU-vid and Bluetooth headphones… the FA38 definitely seems to tame the harsher peaking vocals and makes the kick pop a little more..? Good stuff and looking forward to making the FA38 part of my permanent signal chain.
Nice to see you making videos Eric. I would try adding another instance of the plug-in after the first, disabling the first, and then in the second instance leave auto gain off. Eq it again, adjust your balance accordingly to compensate for gain changes and then compare. While auto gain is a nice feature I think it kind of defeats the purpose to a degree. I just leave it off in plugins now and adjust accordingly, I always feel like I end up with a better balanced mix as a result. Just an experiment to try :)
My workflow has been to not have autogain and I very much enjoyed this approach more. Maybe just cause it's different and gets me out of my usual habits.
