Mixed version sounded a lot better. I generally don’t bother trying to level match things precisely any longer. If I’m getting the tone, the sound I want from where things are at level wise post-plugin (or analog) then I will adjust levels in context of mix and move on to next track or task. I’ve also learned that having everything precisely “in balance” from a technical perspective is at times not what a song needs - sometimes having that snare poke out a little more than being “in balance” is a good thing and gives a song character. I’m trying to really focus more on the art and the feel/vibe and less on the pure technicality. At any rate thanks for sharing your video and thoughts!
