To anybody that has actually performed this reaction will 31% hardware store muriatic acid work? Or do i have to disstil and reconcentrate the HCL. Im not sure whats in the muriatic acid besides maybe some iron... would it still work as normal?
@@THYZOID so muriatic acid with all of the contaminants it comes with versus pure hydrochloric acid is fine to use? Yes it comes at 31% which is perfectly fine but I'm just worried about the contaminants I could get rid of buy distilling and reconcentration
When most common people think of Ammonia, they think of Windex or Cat pee.... Not highly toxic, breaks down lithium at atomic level releasing electrons. Cool reactions, and smart to coat the ampoules for added protection.
I Mix powdered egg shells and Epsom Salts with Vinegar to make a cal-mag supplement for my plants, tho I just use standard 5% Distilled White Vinegar. I would love to see a whole series of videos on using common items to make plant fertlizers. Like Silica,cal-mag,etc.
I love the paintcan DIY. Don't know why I haven't thought of that before. Did you braze on a tube, or is it even more crude than that? It seems fairly airtight in any case
In my earlier days, I got really frustrated, and thought, "Why does everything I try fail?" But then I realised, "This isn't personal, it's just how the universe is. This is why test tubes were invented". If one out of ten attempts works, you're on the path to success. It usually takes 10 times until I can run through a process, and not need any adjustments to my procedure. Working with natural products is hard, as there's so much variability, and enzymes or other compounds can make some bases cause degradation, or else buffer it, so the pH doesn't behave as expected.
oh boy. I thought I was done with that frustration after 20+ months of internships, turns out this was just preparation for all fucking failures you face on a daily basis during a chemistry PhD
There was one time during chemistry class, when I was shaking my test tube, and it turned pink. The class noticed before I did, and started laughing, as that wasn't expected to happen. The teacher said it was probably detergent residue in the tube. But it could have been my natural gayness leaking into the solution. Chemistry at school sucked, but chemistry at home is fun, and that experience taught me the importance of having clean glassware.
Every failure takes you nearer to success. Thomas Edison had hundreds of them while inventing the light bulb. The world wouldn't be the same today if he gave up before he finally succeeded. You just have to be convinced that it generelly will work and keep a long breath until you find out how. 🙂
