The content of the channel has changed drastically, going from short commentary videos or shitposts or gameplay. To primarily long, informative, and high effort commentaries/documentaries discussing political/social issues.

Thanks for the great work on this video. I’m feeling a little validated reading through the comments and seeing lots of others who seem to agree the Wall was perhaps the worst PF album. I’ve been a fan for about 30 years and even got my first online username (Pinkben) from their name back in the AOL days. I tend to forget how influential this music was on my early musical sensibilities. A few years ago I went to an eclipse party and Darkside was played. It’s one of the few albums I can think of that sounds as fresh the first time I heard it 30 years later. I’d put Radiohead’s Kid A in the same category. In fact, if Pink Floyd owned the 70s, I’d say Radiohead owned the late 90s and early 00s in the same way. Music that gets deeper and deeper the more you explore - while still having commercial appeal. Anyway, thanks for bringing me back to exploring 🙏🏼
I’ve got all of Pink Floyd’s albums. I’ve got their live albums and several compilations. I’ve loved this band from way back in 1973. Personally, I’d remove The Wall from this list. It’s very over rated and it inappropriately lives off a reputation that was forged in steel, over the previous three albums. Then, having removed The Wall, I’d add in Meddle and The Division Bell. Now, it’s better. It’s a list that is more rounded and complete. This is The Big Five!

The Wall is a standalone masterpiece Wish You Were Here is a difficult follow-up Dark Side is the perfect Pink Floyd album Animals is the BEST Pink Floyd Album
Big Four...pretty much thought I was the only one who was thinking this way....thank God Barrett was not able to continue...or we'd never have these 4 awesome albums FYI I hate Welcome to the Machine with a passion.
Excellent commentary, my top band ever with Zep! However, should mention the awesome Roy Harper haunting voice singing lead Have a Cigar. My take: 1 Wish You Were Here - Dark Side Of The Moon 2 Animals 3 Meddle 4 The Wall
Love this, specially of Pink Floyd and how you discovered this band. It was quite simmilar for me. And that it was their early years that was their most musically intresting and progressive period. But I will stretch this period to the Animals album. ❤
Personally I would include The Final Cut from 1983. The last Floyd album to feature Roger Waters. Also some great guitar solos from David Gilmour. It’s different, yes, more like Waters’ solo career, yes, but it’s still a unique and classic follow up to The Wall. By the way, his 1992 solo masterpiece, Amused to Death, is on a par with all of these four (or five) masterworks. I do love Meddle but there are a few weak tracks on side 1.
LMAO. "Only Roger cared about making more music.... the others were content to settle down with their money". Only Roger was obsessed with song credit and money, and thus became by far the richest of the band members. While he had lots of conceptual talent, he had very little musical talent. The other band members, especially Dave & Rich, provided the musical talent (while Nick had the amicable personlity that kept the band egos in check). Roger was the richest not because he was the most talented, but because his ego faught the most for credit. I know. I'm about to be blocked. Counter narratives are never allowed.
A lot of people mentioning Meddle should have been included. I do believe it was a great album, but I believe it's still part of their experimenting and honing of their skills era. These 4 albums are absolute perfection and use every bit of their acquired skills to make a coercive album that all songs flow perfectly through. All 4 members were at the top of their game, and contributed their best abilities to make songs that would last the test of time. Even with Roger taking more control, like a conductor of an orchestra, and the others losing some interest, especially Rick, because of it, they were all able to contribute to make 4 of the best albums ever produced. These 4 albums have to be in everyone's top 100 albums of all time.
I got permabanned on r/Sacramento just for stating objective evidence of who was behind the crazy illegal fireworks in my hometown prior to 4th of July. Those moderators could go to Hell.
The greatest lyrics ever written.. hands down: “You run and you run to catch up with the sun, but it’s sinking, racing around to come up behind you again. The sun is the same in a relative way, but you’re older.. shorter of breath and one day closer to death. “ Profoundly true then, now and will forever be.
Everday I walk for about 5 to 6 miles. I listen to this while I'm walking. Just know that the work you put in has lasting effects on people you dont even know. I think your work is perfect for people like me who just want to get lost in the story to deflect the reality that is our life. Thanks for all the work. It really matters to people like me.
4 notes etched into my mind. Big 4, I concur but but Obscured by Clouds, Meddle, Atom Heart Mother are in serious contention. Love all incarnations of the band and solo work. Bullocks if you think Syd's solo work is rubbish. No cheap tricks or added sounds. Simple, creative lyrics and some unique song struggles. Jolly good. Good vid, can ignore the few misquotes. Your time & energy to produce this video is commendable. Interesting, even to a lifelong PF fan nerd.
Reddit is full of rampant censorship. I just got banned from yet another Reddit group for the crime of speaking my mind about the topic at hand. I didn't use any profanity in my post and yet i get banned when others in the group were posting FAR worse in terms of the foul language being used. I think that the time has come to just ban the scourge that is ALL social media platforms.
Without wanting to argue, because they are facts, the big 5, have Waters' head and heart, except Meddle, all the lyrics are Waters'. Regarding music, if not they are his, he participated in it. And in conclusion, the concept and ideas are Waters's, as are the insertions of speech and sounds.
I prefer 'Wish' over 'Animals' and it's not close. Not because 'Animals' isn't great cuz it obviously is but 'Wish' is spectacular and in its own league.
hey i know its a late comment, but im a massive huge pink floyd fan. i just wanted to say ive watching this video probably over 20 times now, and it is THE best and most powerful explanation of the 4 prime albums, the way you go into each song and explain everything so clearly, your narration is professional i love the video graphics and use of live footage. You should be damn proud of this video my friend
A good thoughtful essay with one big mistake which caters to the Pink Floyd myth regardless of the reality. You say "Roger and David continued to support Syd with royalties..." The reality of course is that he continued to earn, regardless of any efforts on their part, royalties to which he was legally entitled! Another reality check on the Floyd myth is the question - if Syd showed up at the Whish You Were Here session, who invited him? Could that happen without them knowing? Remember that the recording studio was not open to the public.
It's funny how 2 of their best songs imo aren't from any of these 4 albums, I'm talking about 23min long twin songs as I like to call them, Atom Heart Mother Suite and Echoes
Excellent expository and analysis. Wholly agree on The Big Four. We would all prob also say that Meddle was the incubator of/for and prelude into Dark Side and might be included - though I don’t think it offers the same sort of story. It’s just one of The Epics. For me, Dark Side and Animals are just the definition of Ageless, Eternal, Galactic Epic. I honestly can’t think of any 2(ok, 4) other albums by any other artist ever that compare in any attribute. Nothing else takes you on such journeys.
