Hi. I get your point about televote that may be superior compared to juries votes, but there are also a lot of arguments, why juries opinion also matters. And jury has always been involved in Eurovision (at early Eurovision stage there were jury votes only). And it is part of the competition to find out the formula for the song which sympathizes with both the jury and the audience. This time Switzerland had really jury friendly song, but the performance was also impactful for audience. In my opinion, it is deserved win. And thanks to jury, such songs from Portugal and France (unfortunately, his voice cracked in jury show) can get higher because of jury votes. I agree with your comment regarding UK, I guess it is exception in this case. :D And finally, jury also helps to avoid political voting (for example, Balkan bloc, Viking empire etc), but, of course, there also could be quite strategical play involved in jury voting. This year it was Croatia's jury, who was the only country that did not give any point for the winner (0 points in jury, 1 point from audience), while other juries gave at least 5 points for Switzerland. It cannot be coincidence that Croatia (as potential winner) was the only country with jury that did not have Switzerland in their Top 10. For me it seems as fear of competition...
Hi! Thanks for watching the video and for the comment! You are partially correct - there was a period when jury was used only as backup (I believe 2004-2008?). And they are supposed to be politically neutral, but they are not (at least in some situations - see 2022 where, I am sorry, there is no way pretty much any jury should have given Ukraine 12 points). I think it goes back to the point I was trying to make - what is the point of the competition? What defines a "good song"? It can be the top song for jury, but if people were to never listen to it (not gonna happen, but saying this as an example), should it truely be able to be the winner of the competition? That is more my point. But that is why I also say that maybe the idea of different proportions of points between jury and public might be an option.
I think public is more politically impacted than jury. In 2022 Ukraine won because of the televote. And this year there was quite similar situation with Israel if we are looking at televote results, but jury was quite silenced about it. I think 50/50 works well. Yes, last two years jury vote determined the winner, but it is not always like that, because if artist is convincing public favorite then televote can determine the winner. And, of course, sometimes both. And if we compare previous year winner and runner up streaming data, then Loreen (jury winner) beats Kaarija (public winner), so also jury friendly song is likeable for audience.

Regarding 2023, Sweden from public got exactly 0 "12 points". Shuffling points for adjustments to count the maximum amount of points Finland could have got if all public gave it 12 points and putting Sweden lower by one place in cases where then Finland would overtake sweden, Finland would then get 594 points, while Sweden would get 573 points. This in effect means that in order to win, Finland could have lost to Sweden only 10 points from public (that would make Finland have 584, while Sweden would have 583). It is understandable, how ridiculous it is to believe that in normal case scenario pretty much all country public give 12 points to the same country, right? That is kind of my point. Juries voted for Sweden so freakin' hard to the point it made it nearly impossible for Finland to win.
@@DeathLV123 I agree that Sweden's win felt too forced by the jury based on 4 main criteria for jury to follow to rank all songs: - composition and originality of the song; - quality of the performance on stage; - vocal capacity of the performer(s); - overall impression of the act. Comparing both songs I can say that "Tattoo" wins over "Cha Cha Cha" with vocal capacity, but speaking about another three criteria "Cha Cha Cha" is better in my opinion (I am not fan of the song). So yes, I understand why previous year winner felt undeserved, but I am not complaining, because professional jury may refer to vocal capability more than other aspects (for example, Switzerland 2021 - great vocalist, but poorly done staging (to be honest for me staging concept was awkward, but I really loved the song and vocal)). Regarding this year I fully understand why Switzerland was jury favorite, because the song confidently meets all the criteria mentioned above. Another strong entries did not fully met all criteria or not that confidently as Switzerland. And I agree with your comment regarding Israel. I believe it should have been at top 3 (or at least top 5) entry for juries, but I guess juries were afraid of backlash. P.S. Speaking about televote I would love to see the outcome if the Netherlands was still a participant in the final, because it will absolutely stole significant points from some top entries (especially, from Croatia?). I doubt about the Netherlands getting the 1st place because of the jury, but I think it could have end up in top 3.
@@furifurijs I agree, if Netherlands were in the finals, that would have been if not an easy win for Switzerland than much easier and much more understandable one for sure as the West would vote for Netherlands and the East - for Croatia. Regarding criteria and Croatia, I would think that yes, it's a clear victory on vocal capability, as that was not even a challenge for Croatia, but regarding quality of performance I'd say they'd tie for me and the other two would be really based on preference. I'm not sure I could say that the Swiss song is too original, but Croatia would not be hte most original song I've ever heard either. And then it is between what sounds good versus what feels good, if that makes sense.

IMHO you destroyed the song by constantly stopping it and talking for too long. You interrupted its flow. You gutted it at its crescendos. Had you listened to it for any length of time you would have gotten the qualities it contains. Instead, without even listening to it, you declared beforehand that it lacked those very qualities. Also, you interpolated a completely different song, right in the middle of this one, thereby fracturing the essence of “Hurricane.” For these several reasons, I find this reaction video to be a self-indulgent monologue.
Alright, if you are gonna be combative, I can be combative. First, I'd rather stop the song for longer comments rather than talk over the song and therefore not hear it. Also, part of the point is to comment on what I think at the time I'm thinking it, so that any changes in opinion would be known live. This also in most cases, in my opinion, gives better context for what exactly I am talking about especially since then it is clearly known what I do or do not know about the song at the time. It would also be freakin boring to just watch me sit there and listen to a song for 3 minutes straight so why the f would I do that in a video? Second, about interjecting another song, why would that matter if my attention span is not as short as that of a goldfish therefore I can remember what happened before I interjected something else and if this does not affect my evaluation of it? Thirdly, the closest thing to a crescendo that the song comes is at 7:18 or so. My opinion stands that I wish there was a moment where this stronger part musically would come together with the chorus, which never happens. Last, but not least, (and yes, I intentionally left this point as the last one to see if you will even read this till the end) I explicitly state (and this is a quote) "but, other than that [that there was not this powerful moment in the song], vocally, musically, everything other than this [missing] bit is very good [..] other than that this is a really enjoyable song for me." So, the reason I am ready to be combative, because, at least the way I read your comment, it appears that you think that I hate this song and believe it is the worst trash ever (overexaggerating here to make a point), which is clearly not the case if you had watched the video till its end.
I keep pausing so that I miss less by talking over the song (which I still do sometimes, but it is usually reserved for shorter notes). And I wish the power would have been throughout the song, not just at the end, if that is what you are refering to.

Unless you are talking about just suggestions? Not sure. And do not forget, when you are (EXAMPLE numbers used) an 8, you are compared to 7, 8 and 9, not 3 or 4. And what bias are you refering to? Also, not to spoil, I suggest you to watch the top 37 and/or semifinal 2 video when they are released... It is not at the bottom and, I believe, given what I say in those videos, the top will make sense. P.S. At the end I actually say something along the lines of "I actually quite enjoyed it"...

I definitely will when I'll be making the top37 and semifinal top lists, for sure. (and yes, these haven't been made yet, so I cannot confirm if they are the same order or not, but it stands to reason songs in different contexts may sound different, therefore these may be different).
The singer has an interesting background this is one of his solo ventures but he was a guitarist in a folk metal band for around 12 years So I certainly heard tinges of Rammstein and the layering reminded me of Electric Callboy with a synth layer and a live rock instrument layer and the mixing changing the emphasis plus the use of a driving beat too.

Hi! I did not rewatch this video just now, but at least what I usually do is say that I do not speak that language so cannot comment on lyrics. From that point on I can comment if something sounds weird or interesting, but the lyrics themselves do not have any weight in that evaluation, positive or negative. What can be mentioned though is that if I compare that song to another song at some point I can mention that I do understand this other song's lyrics and that for that song that is a plus (or a minus, but I do not think there has been such a case this year). If you are refering to the bit I think I mentioned something about I wonder what it is saying about the EU and I hope it is not too pro-EU song, as there are EU policies I disagree with, that comment was not intended to give a conclusive evaluation. @HaraldSeiwert @TheJoeri98 The videos are made from the perspective of a viewer as if they (in this case, me) watched the Eurovision performance when it is live. There will be no subtitles, no translations, no anything. So, the song must capture my attention for me to even be bothered to check the lyrics. And obviously that will not be done before the end of the song. Most people watching Eurovision will not be Dutch-speaking. And a large percentage if not most people will not have even seen/listened to these songs before Eurovision, so they will not have done any research whatsoever. To believe otherwise is to be ignorant. So, given this perspective, it is the most honest thing I can do is to admit that I do not understand the lyrics, therefore not comment on them and not include the text of this song (because I do not understand it) in my evaluation. This is not a deduction or increase of points, the effect of them is simply 0. And, just because I do not understand a song, does not mean it is bad or that I do not like it - good examples of that are Slovenian, Portuguese and French entries. If you either think that my evaluation is so low because I do not understand the lyrics and/or that a person who does not understand the lyrics of a song should not make an evaluation of it (which will be done by everyone who does not understand the song anyway, when they pick if they want to vote for ANY of the Eurovision songs or not), in my opinion, you are very wrong.

@Ender-xd4en I keep the same standard/point of view for all reactions, Netherlands was no exception. I look at all of the songs the way people seeing them for the first time during Eurovision will see them, without any prior research or translations prepared or anything. That is the whole point. For majority of people will not do any prep (maybe, if lucky (or unlucky - dependant on the song and their taste) they may randomly hear an ESC2024 song without realizing it will be in ESC).
For none of the videos in this series I have used subtitles for this is supposed to be as if I watched this during Eurovision - there will be no subtitles then and, as a result of that, unless the song is interesting enough to the viewer without them, they are unlikely to check the lyrics, discarding the song instead. Now also, to be noted and as I have mentioned in other videos, song being in another language does not necessarily mean it is bad, however, it is one of the tools a musician has to hook the listener which, in cases when the listener does not understand the language, can be lost by the musician (but, as mentioned earlier, this is just one of the tools and does not discard the rest of the tools used)

Except the music to me, as a person who likes music such as rock and symphonic/melodic metal (think Amaranthe, Delain, Within Temptation, Sabaton), was very weak, so... For a comparison you can see my reaction to the Norwegian, San Marinese and Croatian entries.
The retro style is on purpose. That is the kind of music Nebulossa does. Also many international artists are taking this way, like Dua Lipa for example, releasing songs that sound like 80's or 90's type of music

Hi! Excuse me, but, unless I am blind, in this specific video there were none. These reactions are meant to represent a person as if they were watching ESC live with no prior knowledge of the songs - therefore, unless a song really catches their attention, they are not noting down the song, much less looking up its lyrics.

It reminds me of my diploma thesis. There is so much unconnected stuff put in here: conflicting with each other music genres, everchanging tempo, tone of voice. It just feels like a complete mess. But, I got to give it to them - it does sound good, and everyone seems to like it, so am I. Btw, my thesis was ranked the highest, among all the students in my specialization, although I was a so-called "B" student. And I do believe, that it has chances to do the same in ESC. My only concern - is that they have to come up with not less than a brilliant stage performance.

The choreography follows the story, that's why there are mirrors around her, that's why her reflections are on the display, and that's why in the end she takes everything off herself in order to reach her true self.
