Olga and Valentina Lisitsa are my two favorite Rach performers. Both perform flawless works of art, with such restrained emotional range, and passion, and of course, and supreme technical skills.
And Rach wrote it to require someone with the size of his hands to be able to perform it. "Twilight Zone" recalled here? Yet Olga with her petite size and hands gives us a "Gigantic!" performance. That's why I'm back here again and again. Thank you, bless you, Olga Kern.
Such a shame that the sound quality is so poor. Would love to hear her Rach 2 interpretation with good sound. Olga is a brilliant Rachmaninoff pianist, one of the best!
I just received an advertisement directly in the middle of the ossia cadenza during the first movement. Nothing that I have experienced so far in life has filled me with rage quite like that. Saw Olga at Smith Opera House in Geneva NY in 2004 or 2005. Best day of my life
We can only hope that commercial messages will not intrude in the midst of the Concert Hall performance. Imagine a sports fan watching their favorite football team's star kick the ball in a tied match, and the broadcast production inserts a commercial advert just at that moment, so the viewers only find out later whether the goal was scored. I would rather sit through 20 rotten adverts before the performance, than a single interruption to the magic of 100+ musicians giving life to the ideas that were only ink printed on a page. It is a sacred way of the composer speaking directly to us from the past.
This was beautiful! I completely enjoyed it at Bass Hall and continue to enjoy it through media. Bravo! Both to Olga Kern and to the Fort Worth Symphony Orchestra, who takes a backseat to no one!!!!
The most wonderful Rach #3 I have ever heard. And I have heard recordings from Rachmaninoff Himself playing it and many others. So beautiful Olga Kern Plays this. No one is close to her sound.
Would liked to listen to Rach III performed by Alexei Aliosha Sultanov who passed away before his time because multiple strokes occurred to him when he was just 35 years old....
Listen to Van Cliburn who played that heavy piece not too fast....His recording is not the "reference" but still a idea of looking for options to express more.
I love this performance. Kern PLAYS the piano, never HITS the keys. However, her touch is assertive, clear. When lyricism is needed, there is no schmalz. Just quiet expressiveness. In the tempestous parts, every note is , still, clear. Olga Kern's virtuosity is so sure, so self confident, in its touch on the keys.
