Im thinking she is going to stay valuable due to the high public interest in her. There are a never ending stream of AI clickbait videos about her on youtube that gain close to 100K views in under 24 hours, even though they provide no real information. I don't see the hype slowing down until Paige enters the league
Before watching, I think her 2022-23 1st Bowman #50 base and autos , along with her 2024 Panini Instant Draft Night #DN1 base and autos will hold up long term. Anything else, I'm not sure.
Definitely on the same page. 2022 Bowman stuff should hold, the other college stuff is more questionable. I didn't cover the Fever cards, but agree...the Draft Night has a really strong shot at being her "iconic" rookie I think, given the popularity of it, the photo, and the fact that all the actual 2024 releases are coming out after her season already ended. I don't really do much of the Panini Instant stuff at all, but I do regret not scooping up piles of those.
Modern legends are tough. Rice, Montana, Elway, Manning, etc. Their retired cards, even case hits or golds, just don't go for as much as I thought in a 10 considering what their raws go for. Good and honest video. When an order hits profit, especially right away after an auction, it's always a good feeling.
Great for collector's though man. Like...the fact that you can build up a PC of (arguably) the greatest QB, the greatest WR and the greatest RB (Barry) of all-time for as cheap as you can is pretty darn silly.
Been thinking about this! It's a great question. You could do it with less tbh, but the number I keep coming back to is a $1,000 initial starting point. Gives you room for grabbing cards you may deem not grade-able while still putting together enough for a sub. A lot of it comes down to picking decent cards and being patient enough to move things and let it snowball gradually.
@@collector_chick1379 Definitely more BIN. I'll do auctions if I want a quick influx of cash flow and that's more important at the moment than the actual profit margin, or if a player/card is particularly hot (Caitlin Clark the last few months was a great example-auctions routinely went higher than BIN). Auctions are just a lot less predictable and if you're not careful, can really crush your margins in my experience.
I have sold them on eBay before, but mostly prefer to do COMC nowadays. It's just less to deal with. I ship them off in bulk, have COMC do all the listing work and shipping, and all I have to do is set pricing. That said, I do still post some on eBay, typically if they're still in that early release hype phase or the card/player is super hot and I want to move them again quickly before that wears off.
I like the software or program you use for keeping logs on your submission sales, profits, etc. Way better than an Excel Sheet I use but it does the job. Yeah the market is weird right now. Cards you think would sell are still sitting in inventory at least for me. I hardly ever do auctions on PSA 10s for the reason of getting a low sale. I only really do auctions on 9s unless its a low pop or a sought after card. I really like these videos you do. Keep it up! Thanks for sharing.
Also how/when do you make the decision to auction a card off instead of keeping it BIN or best offer and reducing price a little when a card hasn’t sold for a bit? Like what made you decide to auction the Caitlin’s? Thanks and great content!
Caitlin's market was on fire. I checked comps, and auctions were consistently going for higher than BIN, often by quite a bit. You'll see that happen sometimes a player's market gets hot and sellers haven't caught up yet. For other cards, just depends on how badly I want the cash flow right now to put into something else, versus potentially sitting on them longer. Mostly a gut call.
Great video as always, curious your thought process why you have multiples on cards you just list 1 at a time vs just having multiple listings of the same card going? I’ve debated both since it’s known the eBay algorithm likes sellers to post new listings daily, listing all them them I can space out over a couple days
Good question! Answer depends on the card. If it's hot enough, or I really just want to get the cash flow, I'll stagger some auctions and have one start every couple of days or so. I do try to end them on Sat/Sun/Mon though as the data I've seen shows that those are the best times to end auctions, unless you happen to be able to end it on a game night, etc. If it's not a hot card, I....just kinda sit on them until I can sell them? I sometimes go lower on the first card, because since I do the multiple quantity thing (still gotta do a vid on that) the next ones tend to move pretty quick so sacrificing some profit on the first one can be helpful to get them all moving.
That Garnet is so sick even with out the 10. The Presentations wemby is firew also. I just sent it my first order 90 cards, alrdy know a few i should not have sent in but cant wait to do a video reveal on my channel when they come in! Sick video bud!
@@Mskedu47 All the other “fake RU-vidrs” aren’t as careful as this guy is. If you actually watched his other videos and pre grading videos you would see his cards and tell they’re clean. Quit hating
I think I'll likely be more picky about what Bowman stuff I pick up. My guess is here 2022 Bowman stuff-her Bowman 1st, some of the more rare inserts-will hold good value and I do plan on going after that stuff still, but the 2023 stuff and some of the fairly common inserts are likely to drop off and I'll probably wait to see where they land. Will definitely be going fairly aggressively after her Fever cards though. The only downside is that all the releases are coming after the season ended, so it probably limits the immediate upside a little bit. Though her fans are hungry, so at least the first few releases will likely be very, very popular.
Roller lines are _fairly_ consistent...definitely gem more than I don't on those. Print lines are a bit more maddening IMO as that's a virtual coin flip.
Oh man...I wish I could tell you that's the last time I'll mispronounce his name, but my brain does that to me darn near every time despite knowing better. 😂
How do you get your submissions back so quick? Do you pay extra? I submitted a 12 card order, it arrived Aug 26, 2024 and as I type this its in Research & ID . My order arrived 4 days before yours and you already have your order...love your videos btw
Oh good question! I don't pay extra, at least not directly. What I have been doing lately is mixing a couple submissions into the same package. Doing that seems to get the cards processed a lot quicker-it's a tip I heard from someone else at one point and it's held true in my experience.
@@everycardastory your gem rate is always high have you considered doing a video on how to improve our chances at improving our rate? I’m curious to learn and see what methods you have that we can a learn and apply to our submissions
@@hollywood_crue its possible that they might have an issue IDing one or more of your cards. i would send a note to customer service if you're close to your estimated completion date.
There system is taking time to use date to show status and what step fir example grading to f that is ahow my it means they stated grading it 4”3-4 days prior just thier system is not updating right away
My last few orders have been either one extreme or the other. I've had some really great gem rates, like this one, but they've been sandwiched around two of my worst orders ever.
I can't for sure. I would imagine they're grading in the order of the submission...they're pretty particular about making sure your cards are stacked in an order that matches the order form-and for unique cards, I can definitely see the order matches what I sent them in at. But always possible they're shuffling around the duplicates in some way.
@@echoecho7601 It's sooooo tempting. Need to see if the margin's are there for it to make sense. Though I also did think it would just be really interesting to take a bunch of cards I pre-graded as 10's from different orders and re-send them as one submission. Probably super dumb, but would be a fun experiment.
Ohhh & I wanted to say your app is Amazing! Its exactly what I needed.. I wish I had your intelligence, creativity & know-how to create an app as well, I think it’s going to be a Homerun if you get it out there to the right people who will speak on it.. Your affiliate program seems beyond generous, waaay beyond generous… I need to just write out an email, I believe I have some insight that just might help…
I really appreciate that man-made my day. :) And I'm all ears for suggestions/insights-already a few features that got added based on requests from the folks using it. I'll keep an eye out for the email.
You’re likely waaaay overthinking / over-analyzing the grading process… Think about it, these people are getting paid slightly above minimum wage, they have them in a completely dark room with a single bright lamp where they are supposed to grade 1000+ cards a day, do you honestly think their integrity is such where they would adhere to a consistent grading method/scale? Its clear that you’re a good hearted person so It might be tougher to believe someone could be giving your cards grades without even looking at every card, but it happens waaay too often.. Instead of contemplating what they might have noticed, think more along the lines of - “I gave him 10s on two of those so I’ll give this one a 9, I gave those two 9’s so I’ll give him a 10 on this 3rd card…” I won’t extrapolate further lest you think I’m being disrespectful, (I assure you I am not, I’m sincerely only trying to help) .. if later I find that I cannot help but spill all that I know & have recently learned about the grading process I might surface to comment again lol, until then I’ll sum it all up with - “crack & Resub until it’s makes no sense financially” .. Best of luck going forward!
lol you wanted your order back a week earlier. I submitted my order before you and I still haven’t received my order. My order arrived, 7/30/24. Order Prep 8/19/24. As of now it’s still in the Assembly process. Est completion is Oct 22, 2024
Ouch. FWIW, I have never seen an order get remotely close to the estimated completion date-PSA puts that thing so far in the future it's mostly useless in my experience. Hope it comes back soon!
This is a SUPER solid point. I talked about this in another video, but right now, the supply is VERY low compared to demand...her supply to demand ratio is much, much stronger than just about every other "hot" target in the hobby right now-Stroud, Wemby, Elly...only Skenes is in the same ballpark. Panini, of course, is gonna flood the market with lots of stuff in her Fever jersey and I suspect we'll see a lot of this change. I do think some of her 2022 Bowman stuff will maintain value, but some of the inserts, or the 2023 stuff seems more likely to dip.
That's fair...definitely a different pace/game than the NBA. I think the game is going to evolve quite a bit here in the next couple of season with her and then Bueckers, Fulwiley, JuJu Watkins, etc right behind her. There's a lot of incredible talent about to hit, and the playing style is going to adjust. I'm a big basketball buff, and a basketball history nut, so I have a ton of appreciation for what she's doing for the game right now. As a result, she's one of my absolute favorite players to grab right now in the hobby.
I think these cards don't do well compared to the Topps base cards because the people buying Caitlin aren't familiar with the card market. Some of them are getting into the hobby for the first time/long time, thats probably why they are paying so much for Panini Instants
Why put your thumb over the grade of each one, it’s like someone can fast forward when you’re revealing one after the other, it’s hard to pay attention to what you’re saying when you haven’t shown the grade yet…
Mostly just following convention. Seems like personal preference is very much divided on this-was just watching a reveal the other day where the revealer was getting a bunch of angry comments about him not covering the grades. 🤷♂ Anyway, in my latest couple I've stopped doing it and probably will continue to not cover going forward. I think.
Heh. You and me both. Sold a couple of the Caitlin's already for a really nice profit, and put a few more up for auction that are getting a lot of early traction. Definitely off to a solid start.
Nice! Anytime you hit an 85% gem rate, you're probably gonna do really well. And I have no issues with the mid to low-end stuff-those are the base hits and in a 10, they tend to fall in a price range that is a lot more approachable for the average collector, so you've got a wider range of collector who can buy them.
Hey man! Love your videos! Do you buy many cards from China? From sellers like Murozond or Tull_068 (TullCardWorld). Just wondering if you buy many cards from either of these sellers, and do you get clean cards that grade well? I've heard some people say that most of their cards are either damaged, or that you may bid on a centered card and they'll actually send you a card that isn't as well centered (meaning they sometimes send you different cards than what is actually pictured). Just wondering your thoughts?
Very fair question. Short answer is trying to optimize for cash flow. I _could_ try to hold on a few of the 10's to try to see if the value goes up and I can turn a profit, and I absolutely do that sometimes, but sometimes I just count my losses and move on so I can have the cash to put into something that I can get a higher profit on. Also sometimes it's auctions that just underwhelm. A lot less predictability there for sure.
@@everycardastory I can see that. I just dabble on ebay, if I don't get my price, or what I feel is a reasonable offer, I don't sell it. I'm not really an investor, it's just part of my hobby. I've been collecting since the early 70's.
Hi I signed up for the free trial of whuppit however how do I communicate question on the site as I do not see anything on it to contact you. I ask because I have questions on how total cost is calculated on an individual card among other questions. Thanks for your time and really like what you have made so far. Best Regards
Hey! I haven't added anything super slick yet for in-app feedback/questions or anything like that. For now, drop me an email and I'm happy to help out: tim@whuppit.com
