Thirteen foggy years ago, Mark Hiscock and Chris Andrews were double booked at a small pub in St. Johns, Newfoundland. Rather than cancel one performer, the charismatic owner suggested they play together and so was born Shanneyganock. Joined by longtime bassist Bob Pike and Mike Clarke on percussion, the group has since charmed many through their stirring ballads, powerful shanties, and rib-rattling jigs and reels. With a new release just out , their six previous studio projects have been featured on Home Brew compilations, Warner Records Atlantic Standards compilation and Eds Up on OLN Network with The Barenaked Ladies. 2007 also marked 4 Music Newfoundland and Labrador award wins including Entertainers of the Year, as well as a 2008 East Coast Music Award nomination for Roots Group. Performing in Doha, Qatar; Memphis (Folk Alliance) they've also completed several Cross Canada Tours. Titled Volume VII, the newest disc is available where great folk music is sold Nation wide.

It might be a song about Newfoundland, but as a Cape Bretoner living away it says alot about the desire to go home. We have some great ties....Newfoundlanders and Cape Bretoners.
We said we walk together darling come what may Then come the twilight Should we lose our way And if as we’re walking A hand should slip free I’ll wait for you and should I fall behind Will you wait for me We swore we travel Darling side by side Then we help each other Stay in stride But each other’s steps fall So differently I’ll wait for you and should I fall behind Will you wait for me Now everyone dreams of a love that is true But you and I both know what this world can do So let’s make our steps clear so the other may see I’ll wait for you and should I fall behind will you wait for me Now there’s a beautiful river In the valley ahead There neath the oaks bough Soon we’ll be wed Should we lose each other In the evening trees I’ll wait for you and should I fall behind Will you wait for me I’ll wait for you and should I fall behind Will you wait for me I’ll wait for you and should I fall behind Will you wait for me I’ll wait for you and should i fall behind Will you wait for me
In a town this size There ain’t no place to hide Everywhere you go You meet someone know You can’t steal a kiss In a place like this How the rumours do fly In a town this size In a smoky bar In the backseat of your car In your own little house Someone’s sure to find you out What you do and what you think What you eat and what you drink If you smoke a cigarette You’ll be talking about your breath In a town this size There ain’t no place to hide Everywhere you go You meet someone you know You can’t steal a kiss In a place like this How the rumours do fly In a town this size Oh I had a fight With my girlfriend last night Before the moon went down Sure it was all over town How she made me cry How I said goodbye If it’s true or if it’s not Doesn’t seem to count a lot In a town this size There ain’t no place to hide Everywhere you go You meet someone you know You can’t steal a kiss In a place like this How the rumours do fly In a town this size In a town this size There ain’t no place to hide Everywhere you go You meet someone you know You can’t steal a kiss In a place like this How the rumours do fly In a town this size In a town this size In a town this size
Lyrics And you know the sun is setting fast Just like the say nothing good ever last Go on now and kiss them goodbye Hold on to your lover your heart's bound to die Go on now and say goodbye to our town to our town Can't you see the sun is setting down on our town on our town goodnight On the street beside a red neon light Swear I met my baby on a hot summer night She was a tender and I ordered a beer It's been 30 years and I'm still living here Don't you know the sun is setting fast Just like they say nothing good ever last Go on now and kiss them goodbye Hold on to your lover your heart's bound to die Go on now and say goodbye to our town to our town Can't you see the sun is setting down on our town on our town goodnight I swear I met my children and I had my first kiss I strolled down main street on a cold morning mist Over there is where I bought my first car Turned over once so it didn't go far I can see the sun is setting fast Just like they say nothing good ever last Go on now and kiss them goodbye Hold on to your lover your heart's bound to die Go on now and say goodbye to our town to our town Can't you see the sun's setting down on our town on our town goodnight Well I buried my mother and I buried my pa They sleep up the street by a pretty brick wall Bringing them flowers about every day I just gotta cry and I think what they'd say If they see the sun is setting fast Just like they say nothing good ever last Go on now and kiss them goodbye Hold on to your lover your hearts bound to die Go on now and say goodbye to our town to our town Can't you see the sun is setting down on our town on our town goodnight Now I sit on the porch and watch the mosquitoes fly Can't see too well I got tears in my eyes I'm leaving tomorrow but I don't want to go I love you my town you always live in my soul Can't you see the sun is setting fast Just like they say nothing good ever last Go on now and kiss them goodbye Hold on to your lover your hearts bound to die Go on now and say goodbye to my town to my town Can't you see the sun is setting down on my town on my town goodnight Goodnight Can't you see the sun is setting down on our town on our town Can't you see the sun is setting down on our town on our town goodnight

To this day I recall my grandfather who raised me coming home from the hospital one winter. My grandmother looked at him and asked, "What did the doctors say to you". He said, "They told me to give up drinking, smoking, and all things salty". I looked at him and said, "What are you gonna do"? He looked down at me, smiled and said, " Just as well for me to die one way as another". Granted he did give up smoking but that was it. He was around 65 at the time and died at age 83 of bone cancer. He suffered for 2 years until the cancer took him but doctors said the reason he lasted so long was because his heart was so strong. The drink, salt beef and cabbage weren't his downfall, it was the hard life of working at sea, jobs no one else would take and making a home for his wife and kids without ever thinking of himself that did.
