Interesting how this video just came up because I’ve been playing Little Nightmares 1 and 2 lately and was just thinking of what its deeper meanings might be. Childhood fears make sense, but even themes like adults abusing children, oppressive overlords (all the shoes harken to the shoes of the Jews during the Holocaust), gluttony, and the fear of seeing oneself (all the broken mirrors and masks) seem present. I’m so interested in these games and I enjoy how the story isn’t told in a straightforward fashion; the creators allow us to contemplate it and piece it together simply by observing and interacting with their art. I’m excited for Little Nightmares 3!
There's definitely so much I'm not picking up that you did and probably so much more. It's the kind of game ripe for theories lol. I'm looking forward to playing the second game and how it builds up on the first one. My favorite part probably was the blind man with the long arms. Sneaking about the different rooms while he was searching for us was tense as heck.
Just to add another thing I agree that the sky islands were overhyped and while I still found them awesome I always felt it was a very big mistake to have you start out on the largest one instead of having you venture to other even grander sky islands, but I think that those Sky Islands took on great focus probably in a way that they did not expect when developing it because of a decision to hide the depths until release and so because of that the sky islands probably took on unexpected weight in terms of hype. As for the depths, when I discovered them it was incredible and really drew me into the game, although later on I felt that they were rather plain and not that fun, HOWEVER even later than that I actually found I loved the depths and find them to be very relaxing to explore and actually quite filled with unique little interesting things at the end of it.
Since they made the Great Sky Island the only large one they could have at least inserted lots of content you would come back to throughout the game as more sections unlock (like the Ocean King Palace in Phantom Hourglass or the Tower in Spirits Track). But yeah your thoughts align with mine on the hype topic. The Depths are really cool but if I spent too much time in one go there it would get boring fast. But the place has a great ambiance and the darkness is awesome. A lot of the game (Depth and Sky especially) feels like it's meant to be enjoyed piecemeal, with shorts trips before coming back to the Overworld. I'm playing the game again and damn I missed so much stuff. Quests, locations, outfits... I collected the Ocarina of Time set and now it feels so much more like a Zelda game lol.
As a lover of this game of course I am delighted to see this video, but as a lover of your channel also, I'm thrilled to see you continue to get better and better at what you do. You're very entertaining and getting more so all the time
This was the first video of yours I've seen and I just wanted to let you know that I really enjoyed it. I was harsh on totk when it first came out as well because I really wanted it to give me the same magical feeling botw gave me. It could never recreate that feeling, but now that it's been a while and I'm playing totk a second time, it's actually very fun and exciting in its own way. I have nitpicks about it still, but I've learned to appreciate it as its own game. :) It's very fun to play! I still think the story is lacking, but I'm glad they gave me more to do in a world that I've come to love. Wonderful video, you did an awesome job! I've subbed and I'll definitely be giving your other vids a watch. Have a lovely day!
Thanks for these warm happy feelings you put in my heart with your comment. I'm really glad you enjoyed the video. If it was easier to make a second savefile I probably would restart and try things differently but for now I think I'll mess around in the game's world until Echoes of Wisdom is released. :)
I will be in the minority here in the comments but I feel TotK is objectively the better and more mature game. BotW was mind-blowing, however, going back to it I find myself limited in many ways from weaponry to abilities. It's still a bonkers amazing game but TotK feels like it has more variety, IMO. Again, my opinion, and again, I love both games. So, don't throw bomb flowers at me, lol.
Bomb flowers unlike the bomb rune are limited so I won't waste them lol. I mean I get it, TotK objectively has more content and freedom. You can do stupid fun or reality bending stuff with all its mechanics. But for me even though it has more the vibes are off which is weird and more personal than anything. You can kind of feel what the developers talked about in interviews that it was harder to make a sequel than a new game. I really miss the Sheikah technology. Guardians were the perfect enemy and much more memorable that the Gloom Hands. What's your favorite part about Tears of the Kingdom ? Did you like the sky and feel its implementation was good enough ?
My rankings of 3D Zelda 🙏 #1 Ocarina of Time #2 Majora’s Mask #3 Breath of the Wild #4 Twilight Princess #5 Wind Waker #6 Skyward Sword #7 Tears of the Kingdom
That's really the first Zelda I feel that way towards. To me the way they went about making this game is so weird. Such a missed shot to make this an unforgettable adventure. I've been listening to long-form reviews of the game that got published recently and it's clear the game lost its honeymoon phase for many. You know, I'm not actually hard to please and am easily impressed. So for the game to have had this effect on me... 🫤 Perhaps they'll understand the criticism and will make a better game next time though. Thank you for watching Rowen. :)
If I tried to just throw around stuff without a plan I know I wouldn't have been able to finish even one level ahah. Making this one taught me a lot that I can use to make a much better map next time. This romhack is great !
Yeaaah it's not great. Sometimes it's so dumb it's enjoyable but it's a bit bleh for players of the games. Can't wait to see what they're going to do with the Zelda movie lol.
@@LuluME1 I bet!! Since my main computers on the last peg I've been doing some of clips on my phone too and it's tough. Big respect for your hard work!!
TLDR: just me agreeing with what you have said in this video :D Honestly the 3ds was really comfy for me to hold as I grew up,but whenever I try to play it nowadays now that I have big hands my hands just start cramping. Also of your eyes are remotely bad,the 3d just doesnt work ;-; And the the circle pad pro is terrible, its always too slippery so I ended up pressing down on it and using my thumbnails, and now the rubber is almost completely gone ;-; I never really had a problem with the resolution, but thats just because my eyes suck Actually looking at the games with glasses recently has made me agree with your point on the low resolution Also unrelated but your voice is very nice :3 The Nintendo 3ds library was absolutely terrific, back in the Wii u and 3ds days I would just look through the Eshop, look at trailers, get demos(oh how i miss almost every game having a demo) and just look at the wide variety of games I think the 3d effect did hinder the strength of the 3ds that truely wasnt worth the sacrifices that had to be made I did really enjoy the 2 screen setup, but that may just be because most games I played used both screens really well, like The World Ends With You,and the Pikmin games But alot of the demos simply just out a map and menu on the bottom I did like how seamless and immersive just being able to use the bottom acreen rather than opening a menu and having to navigate to what I want to find. Also as a person with a bad sense of direction, having a live minimap on the bottom really helped me XD
I found the game very engaging and spent over 200 hours playing. I have been playing the Zelda franchise since the original NES game and felt that this one was one of the better installments. I feel that BOTW was better, but not by much. Honestly...I found your review dry and ultimately about as disappointing as you described the game.
Fair enough. Good you had fun with the game. This video in the end is more about relieving this knot in my heart I had about the game. If you want a review that goes deeper into why the game deeply frustrates many players here's a great one: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-4unKwPQMoOA.htmlsi=LbnC3zwiFXlhN2CA
Wdym i have just been replaying the game and every single sky island is something unique to do and its still a really important part of the game 2 dungeons are up there the tutorial area and the temple of time is up there i think its great
Genuinely great you're having a good time with them. My problem comes with how much importance was placed on the sky islands in the lead up to release. In the end we got so few compared to what was thought of during development and outside of the mandatory story-related islands there's little to do up there. I wish the beginning Great Sky Island wasn't the only big one.
@@LuluME1 if there were more sky islands and were bigger on every single island needs to be something cool and and the great sky island does a great job of that while being the tutorial area and there is probably a reason that nintendo decided the sky is like it is but it would be cool if there was more to explore
My guess is no dungeon keys, the new mechanics will serve the function of opening doors and getting to new areas. I think this because of the line "wisdom is key" from the reveal trailer.
Makes sense. Gotta shove a bokoblin in the bokoblin-shaped hole. I wouldn't mind the keys making an appearance though. Perhaps there would be ways around these locked doors but still keep the option for those who don't want to think too much ? Kinda like in Prey.
I completely agree the very open endedness of the game kind of kills the fun of puzzle solving and every problem in the game is quickly solved with an easy solution
@@dashbuurd4358 A shame since with its mechanics there's ways to make really engaging puzzles. 😩 Wouldn't have been bad to have some shrines hard to complete since you can leave them and warp right back once you feel ready for another try.
I personally like to tweak and have the freedom to turn on and off what i want. I do agree with you that it can take from the experience if the title is not optimized like the ported titles
I spent about 40 hours in it, then one day I started it up and I just couldn't be bothered to play. I haven't touched it since and have absolutely no impulse to ever play it again. I honestly can't explain why. Maybe deep down it feels like I'm playing the same game all over again (BoTW)...
I feel the game is very similar if you do not engage with its sandbox too much. I'm not surprised you felt no impulse to explore the world again. As I said in the video I thought the majority of the game would take place in the new sky layer. I wanted a sort of Zelda Galaxy I guess.
That's really the foundation of my frustration. Two years would have been alright, but for six I wanted a whole new game. I didn't have kids when BoTW came out, now I have two who go to school by the time TotK came out. When the next game comes out they'll well be on their way to middle school lol. Crazy how long game development is these days.
@@LuluME1 What's crazy to me is that despite game development cycles being longer than ever, I find myself less satisfied on average with new games. It seems like games trying to be bigger means the dev resources get spread so thin that so often you end up with games that are like TotK--a mile wide and an inch deep. But maybe that's just my tastes. If I'm going to spend 40 hours on a game, I'd rather it be 10 4-hour challenges than 80 half-hour challenges.
got over 220 hours, loved the game. sucks you guys didn't enjoy it, the exploration was still great. It's a huge game and was extremely vertical, couldve used better dungeons but was still S+ tier
Ah I see no problem. Just being busy I guess ahah. I'm remaking thumbnails for most of my available videos. Thinking also about Zelda and making a video on Ocarina of Time which I love so much. All in all everything's fine here. Have you been enjoying the most recent Zelda games ?
The saddest thing about totk to me was definitely the dungeons. Even if the puzzles themselves were lackluster, I was able to use the ultra hand abilities to skip most of the puzzles, specifically in the fire dungeon. I literally just phased through the ceiling.
Slapping a theme on a divine beast doesn't make it a proper dungeon. Especially the Water Temple which is just more bland sky islands. I cannot believe Aonuma was confident enough before release that he had to make a video where he pointed out that dungeons were back. Being able to bypass puzzles doesn't make it "another way" to solve them, it's just a skip button. You're supposed to use brain instead of brute forcing it.
I used the hover bike. I was done with the fire temple in about 50 minutes and that includes wandering off to a tree root I saw in the distance and backtracking to Yunobu after I sequence broke him. And it's sooo patronizing whne I figured out the solutions before seeing the cut scene and then have Yunobu explain it at length and tell me how many gongs were left when they're marked on my map.
